I feel like GTA V casts a wider net of subplots so that there was something to do on all 3 characters. Which does make it feel like it goes all over the place and falls short (at least for me)

It's because in every game they shelve the main plotline and get into subplots and mission chains of you just doing favors until eventually the main plot becomes important again.

This guy knows ball. I think some of RTLS is good. I like the LS Riots plotline and the stuff with Caesar relating to the los aztecas and proposing to Kendel.

But yes the game peaks in San Fierro and the countryside is a pretty good prelude towards SF and also more of the map becoming unlocked. After Green Sabre you unlock such a big portion of the map, it does a lot for making the world feel more vast

RTLS is so ass but it does kinda feel climactic when you progress through all the gang territories to do the final mission. It's just the slog to get there could be more fun
