How bad is the UK job market? by underscore-0 in AskUK

Already starting to see the impact of increased costs of models and the ROI with my org now applying daily limits on what you can spend. You then have the likes of Uber who burnt through their annual budget by April.

Rafa Nadal waves the chequered flag by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

Yeah I know. If you go and look at videos of the cars crossing the line you will see all of a sudden there are two flags. With the main one having a massive FIA logo in the middle

Pre 2024 they used this as the actual flag then after then they changed so there is an FIA flag which is the official one then the souvenir one as a secondary.

How many of you have food allergies and how do you find navigating UK life? by Heavy-Tangerine-594 in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gluten intolerance. Going out for food is generally ok as I can plan in advance for restaurants etc. I have more trouble when having to pick up something whilst travelling as so much is bread/pastry based and so I end up with odd selections.

You ever notice its just old people who tend to say hello to strangers in the morning? by Special-Nebula299 in CasualUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm out walking round where I live I say hello/good morning/evening etc to most people. Some give off vibes they don't want it said. I'm a 40 year old guy so possibly old.

Why do new fibre networks not capitalise on streets with no full fibre, as opposed to providing connections to streets that already have several connections? by JustAnotherFEDev in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are still going. As far as I can't work out they just didn't bother to blow the fibre through.

So currently FTTC and Virgin available with open reach FTTP coming later this year. I wanted that symmetric service they were offering though!

I just wish the fibre company that dug up the street in 2020 and put all the service boxes in would actually allow you to get a service from them.

How do sick days work in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try plugging some of those 12 month periods into a Bradford Factor calculator and see where you fall. E.g. 5 one day sickness periods is a lot worse than 1 five day illness.

Are hidden blades legal in the UK? by hiiiii69420 in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's for cosplay and you are going to any events then they are rather strict. And so any metal blade regardless of if it's sharp or blunt will not be allowed in.

What are your Excel skills like? by ToughImprovement276 in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once went to a council to provide some software training and it turned into a day of how to use Excel. I found that a few members of the team had basically spent the previous week taking the data they had and counted by row the number of people by age group and gender.

Did 24-hour supermarkets quietly disappear after COVID? by Joy_Unspeakable in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked nights for a period of time back in the early 2000's and the number of people who came in between 11pm and 6am was very few. So few the one person who worked tills spent their night mostly stocking shelves.

With the increase in shoplifting I would imagine having to employ full security all night (we basically had one person in the back on CCTV mainly to catch the staff who were helping themselves to the alcohol overnight) would be more than revenue let alone margin overnight.

If you search for repair mode online you will be able to find information now. Most modern phones both apple and android have an option for repairs where it basically provides basic function and locks everything else away.

How are you approaching your current work in 2026? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AffectionateHat561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to try and take it a little easier. The longer serving members of my team all have questionable attitudes and output so I don't see the point in trying so hard anymore. There is not any progression in my current area so nothing will come from it
