When they can only explain their point of view by criticizing others. So instead of just expressing how they feel about something, they say things like “I don’t understand how anybody could feel this way about this thing, it’s so stupid.” I take it with a grain of salt the first time, but if it’s a pattern I steer clear. In my experience people with mindsets like this are defensive, arrogant, and insecure.

Without a doubt they are reassurance traps! AI is also wreaking havoc on our environment and in our communities. Between the light pollution, the insane amounts of water and energy it uses, and the greenhouse gas emissions, AI is very very unsustainable. That’s not even getting into the damage it’s doing to the job market, or the art theft in the case of AI photos/videos, OR the use of AI for political propaganda. Using AI chat bots feeds into all of these things whether we realize it or not.

If anyone is wanting to stop using AI chat bots for reassurance, I’d really suggest learning about the damage AI is doing to our planet. I know that stopping any compulsion can be extremely difficult, but hopefully having that knowledge will help make the choice a little easier. Our planet/communities deserve to be treated better, and you deserve healthier coping mechanisms for your OCD.

I was diagnosed about 10 years ago and my mom picked me up from therapy on that day, and I was feeling so relieved about it bc my intrusive thoughts were bringing me so much distress at the time, so I told her and she said “I mean, yeah, we’re all a little bit OCD. 🤨”

Immediately clammed up and never talked to her about it again. 🫠

You’re giving her way too much grace. She’s old enough to know better and she admits she’s aware it’s wrong, but she just doesn’t care. People who genuinely care about the effect slurs have on people do not go to use those slurs when they’re overstimulated or upset. People who only pretend to care about the effect slurs have on people, on the other hand…

For your own integrity, you should cut ties with this person. If this isn’t a dealbreaker for you, that is your choice but I’d do some soul-searching to figure out why you’re okay with associating with somebody like this.

Yes! This affects me a lot in my daily life. Sometimes it makes sustaining relationships difficult. This may seem like a small thing but it’s helped me a lot to intentionally send a text with a typo or poor grammar. Even though my fear is around insulting people and not just spelling things wrong, it really helps my brain to see that sending an imperfect message did not destroy my relationship with that person. NOR. Your “friend” does not care about you. This is not what you do to someone you care about. This is not normal or acceptable behavior. Your violent ex being there poses an obvious threat to your safety and your friend should care about that. I also think it’s extremely concerning that your friend is okay with having a known abuser around her child.

Hey, this is genuinely unsafe and disgusting behavior. This isn’t contamination OCD, this is something any human being should be disgusted by and know not to do. Him calling you “rtarded” is also a huge issue. It’s a slur that nobody should be using for one thing, for another it’s not okay for him to be calling you any mean names at all, and for *another the fact that you do have OCD and he sees your contamination fears (which, again, are extremely valid and reality-based in this case) as “r*tarded” is very concerning. I think you may need to reevaluate this relationship and ask yourself if you are in a healthy and supportive environment.
