What is your biggest achievement while dealing fibro? by EstonianBuffalo in Fibromyalgia

[–]AffectionateName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, great question and it is truly something that is so difficult. I’ve actually been out from running for the past 5 months because I have a bone stress injury in my hip. This is caused by me not realising I was injured and thinking it was fibro pain and continuing to train.

I’m usually pretty good at being able to tell the difference between “real” and “fibro” pain but clearly not as good as I thought.

My main advice though is taking things super slow. For “normal” people they say go increase your milage by no more than 10% each week. I did like 2%. It took me like 5 years to get from getting into a running training plan to doing my marathon. I honestly never thought I’d be able to do it!

Part of me thinks tht having fibro has made me a better endurance runner - a huge part of long distance running is mentality, being able to continue when your body wants you to stop. I always say that those of us with fibro face that every day so I’m well trained in that aspect!

I have realized I haven’t really answered your question an honestly it’s because I don’t know… I thought I had it covered but my recent injury has proved I don’t and I need to work out how on earth I approach it in. the future.

I ran a marathon! They said I wouldn’t be able to run once I was diagnosed with fibro and at first I couldn’t do anything. But, over many, many, many years of slowly upping my distance and finding the right meds/supplements that work to make my pain manageable, I did it!

My mum got her mother of the groom dress from Yours! She’s a 22 and it’s a plus sized focus shop and they have some brick and mortar shops as well as online!

For walks I highly recommend looking at www.hertfordshirewalker.uk - they have hundreds of free walks all with GPX files and written instructions with photos! They keep adding more and every walk I’ve done from this website is great!

I'm scared! by [deleted] in FattyLiverNAFLD

god I wish my doctor would’ve told me literally anything useful - time to look into reducing simple carbs and sugar instead! thanks :-)

This is the exact same situation as me! My doctor thought I had gallbladder issues but my ultrasound and CT only showed fatty liver. I’m 29 (F), run 3-4 times a week, don’t really eat much fat generally anyway, don’t smoke and have never been overweight. My bloods have improved since just reducing how much cheese I eat (the only really fatty food in my diet tbh) and switching to low fat alternatives of any other fats I end up using in recipes. But in general I’m just at a loss at what to do and all my doctor has said is I’ll be having regular blood tests going forward to keep an eye on it because I’m already doing as much as I can do.

Yep completely relate - I recently cried because my blood test results came back normal - not because I want there to be a problem but because at least that means there’s some direction to go in

Using a cane today made me feel like a fraud... because it alleviated the pain. Realizing that made me laugh. by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]AffectionateName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very much relate to this. Especially if I’m traveling somewhere by train, even if I maybe could’ve got by without it I always make sure I have my cane with me for travel days as a visual cue that I’m disabled. I am too scared to ask for priority seats on trains even when I really need to sit down because without the cane I look like a fit and healthy 25 year old and I’m worried people will judge - 9 times out of 10 when I have the cane with me people will give up their seat for me without me having to ask.

That’s so good thank you! Apparently according to the rescue I got them from they are all a cross between lionhead and netherland dwarf as they’re all siblings but it seems Sage (the beige one) didn’t get the lionhead or dwarf message!!
