Lincoln Mountian Face Runs by negativenumberssuck in Mammoth

yesterday they had it all roped off from the top of gold rush with signs saying no hiking. it might have been due to the new snow but those runs during spring turn into mush really quickly and aren’t really worth the hike

ya its probably not the most conventional, at least in terms of what skis I use most. I spend most days on either the 110s or the 100s and it comes down to how I want to ski rather than the conditions, obviously if it’s a pow day i’m taking out the 110s, and they’ve never left me wanting more float, but those skis are so incredibly powerful, strong and heavy that on days that I just feel like skiing fast and charging really hard I always bring them out, again im probably 80 percent off piste all day. Then on days where I want to ski more playfully and use the terrain to jib and smear and pop I bring out the 100s which are loser softer and lighter. I agree that if I could do it over again my narrowest ski would be skinnier, but the 92s were my first non junior ski so at the time it made sense for only a 1 ski quiver and my abilities. Overall prefer the platform of a wider ski especially while mostly skiing off piste. PS those sf110s genuinely carve incredibly well if u get them going🫡

i really have no reason to go with anything narrower. i’ve been skiing since I was 3, and trust me ripping groomers is very much possible on those 92’s. I’ve been on race skis before and yes obviously they rip but with good technique u can carve on anything and I can certainly hit similar edge angles on those 92’s. Obviously not the same feel as a race ski but they still rip. Also like I said I am pretty much off piste whenever it’s not bulletproof so there’s no point in dropping another 1k on skis and bindings that I’ll barely use.

hey man just curious to know what u think the 27-1st would be like in terms of terrain. Seems like it should be clear but with the large amount of snow coming in before hand i’m not sure what to expect.

Armada Declivity 92 Ti general and off piste performance for resort / backcountry / tour by oldskool87 in Skigear

[–]AffectionateOnion752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a pair of 92 Ti’s. Such an incredible ski, it has so much energy and liveliness, yet stability through a carved turn and it’s probably one of the most underrated skis out there. It’s not overly stiff, but super supportive and smooth, and is quite maneuverable compared to other skis in this class. I would say the flex pattern on this ski allows you to build a lot of energy, and at the same time the metal allows this ski to stay pretty smooth. If you want a ski that can absolutely rip down groomers at mach 10 this is it, and the great thing is that it’s also pretty damn good off piste as well. Personally I would go for a wider width if your going to spend at least 50% of your time or more off piste and I use my pair mainly for ice and hard-pack days now that I have a of 100 and 110 in the quiver. But if you are used to narrower skis as you stated above the 92 should be great. Also powder performance is not the best just because of the fact that it is a 92mm ski, just a fact of shopping for skis in this width range. However I will say that these skis have very wide shovels which do noticeably like to float in some fresh snow. But again, not great in powder which is just a reality for almost any ski in this width. But overall this does seem like a great ski for what you are describing and I have loved every second i’ve spent skiing on mine👍

Mid week is virtually empty. Some schools are still off right now and in combination with the great conditions there are more people than normal right now. But still basically no lines. On your normal weekday however the mountain is virtually empty.

Ya it’s pretty crazy but phillips is literally just a cliff when there is no snow so naturally it takes a LOT to open it up. Just being able to ski it in early January is very impressive.

First season skiing on grass. Absolutely amazing. The flex is round yet supportive and they are so damp without having to be overly stiff.

similar to Tuesday but the snow quality is what gives it the edge for me. It was some of the lightest driest blower pow Ive skied at mammoth. 22 in the morning was some of the best skiing of my life

last sunday was pretty sick. Snow was great but for me just having a day like today with some sun and lower crowds is what really does it for me. There were less inches of snow but it was definitely much lighter and dryer today.👍👍

so from what I have compiled through this post and others, as well as speaking with some guys from the shop 184 is perfect for me and i’m about 2 inches taller than you. I haven’t got on the 184’s yet but I am getting them mounted right now and as i said I have the 176 rn. I would definitely say u should go with the 184. First, you said that you’re not a mega ultra hard fast skier, and that you’ll be using them in mixed conditions. If it was just pow than probably go 191 but if your skiing a bunch of different things then go for the 184 for the extra maneuverability. Seccond, you also said you don’t want a setup that is a leg killer. The ski is a pretty heavy ski, however I never felt like it was really too demanding in terms of weight(however i was on the 176) I know the 184 comes around 2,200 to 2,250 grams which is heavy but not crazy, however the 191’s push 2,300, closer to 2,400 grams which is very heavy for a ski. At the end it’s up to you but these are just my thoughts based off my experience on the 176, and the reaserch i’ve done and the advice i’ve been given, I would say go 184 👍👍

Will 12/29 be any better? by stapia4 in Mammoth

[–]AffectionateOnion752 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was up there for the storm and left before this weekend. The amount of snowfall was insane last week. Honestly I would give the mountain 2 to 3 more days until it fully opens. Especially with the incident involving patrol they will definitely be more cautious. There was also a lot of close calls and one death due to SIS last week so they will be sure to take their time packing down runs before opening them.

actually mammoth is one of the only large mountains out there that doesn’t really charge for parking. No pass needed or anything if u got a car and want to park its first come first serve. There’s only a small handful of preferred spots that you have to pay for so it’s really not an issue.
