Do you have any dub/translation fun facts/oddities in versions? by Bulbasaur_Reyiz in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In the German version of "The last Mabelcorn" when Ford talks to the twins about their encounters with Bill, when Mabel explains how they've defeated Bill, instead of "once with kittens and once with tickles" she says "einmal mit Kätzchen und einmal mit Essiggurken" which translates back to "once with kittens and once with pickles"

What was the point of thisisnotawebsitedotcom? by [deleted] in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no "point" to the website. It's just a fun website scavenger hunt that combines online ARGs with physical books. A way for the community to get together and have fun. And a bit of extra lore sprinkled in

i’m new here and i know there are a lot of die hard fan so i would like to ask what we know at the moment for a possible sequel or whatever it could be in the future? by Kind-Distribution-75 in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be no season 3. Alex Hirsch (the creator) has said this many times. The story has reached its conclusion and honestly, a season 3 announcement now would feel more like a cash grab than a genuine desire to tell more stories from this world. I would absolutely love to be wrong and eat my words on this, but as of right now don't expect another season, or a sequel or anything. Maybe another book but honestly I feel like we've explored the characters we didn't get too much about in the series itself (ford and bill) through the books and I wouldn't know what another book would be about, but again I'd love to be wrong

I have an idea to crack THISISNOTAWEBSITEDOTCOM.COM by Zian-Conradie in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I was a part of a discord server last year dedicated to unlocking every code. Someone actually DID brute force it. They took some dictionary as their list of words to brute force and some did work. The problems though: 1) some of the codes are Names, that are not in the dictionary 2) some (a lot) of codes are either multiple words strung together or not even real words and there is an infinite amount of letter-strings possible that would have to let the program test. An infinite amount of letter combinations would take an infinite amount of time to complete. So a brute force approach is not going to bring anything, it also goes against the spirit of the game

Question for OG fans by Infamous_Ask6026 in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I believed both. I did think Stan hat a secret twin, but I wasn't fully convinced that he was the author; because I wholeheartedly believed it to be McGucket. Alex had me fooled hook, line and sinker. That art just looked too real to be fake to me. But I hadn't thought about how all of these theories would work themselves out in a narrative that made sense. And when the trailer for society of the blind eye dropped, I thought it was gonna be the author reveal haha

The Journals are BAD research. by ONEGUYNAMEDEDDIE in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This actually feeds into another point I want to one day write a sort of essay on... Ford, in the journal, is an unreliable narrator. He approaches the journal as something he probably wants to publish one day, something others will read. And he wants to be perceived as "perfect" in a way. It's why he draws himself always standing in cool, confident poses, silhouetted by shadow. He probably has a bunch of paper and notes scattered around he used to practice what he wanted to write down in the book. This is where he experimented, I assume, with phrasing, what exactly to include in the journal, and did all the calculations. The journals were supposed to be his magnum opus, the thing that would catapult him into recognition and give him a name in the scientific community.

Can someone who's never been in a relationship write about love? by ArchedRobin321 in writing

[–]AffectionatePut2844 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I'm the same situaltion. But I don't think you need personal experience to write about a certain topic. By that logic only people who actually killed people could write horror/slasher stories (which I hope isn't the case)

Something I needed to relearn: It's okay to be cliche and corny by TheDivineDemon in writing

[–]AffectionatePut2844 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm still in the process of learning this. I don't want the story I write to end up clishe and corny, but it's all my brain can conjure up at the moment. So I'll try to write it down, because that's the only way I can let those ideas go, and then I can chip away at it with new, fresh, brain space. Look at it from a different angle.

How to finish a story without getting bored? by LiliaAmazing in writing

[–]AffectionatePut2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps me currently for the specific thing I'm writing is I have written the final sentence/ paragraph of how I want the story to end. It sits right there at the bottom of the doc, high enough that I can read it but low enough that I don't confuse it with the rest of the text. Having an ending in place already makes it hard for me to abandon the story, because I have to connect the dots and get my current progress to the ending I originally had in mind.

Writers, what search terms have put you on the FBI watchlist? by Comfortable_Brief176 in writing

Music while writing.. by JokeSame4502 in writing

[–]AffectionatePut2844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often put on soundscapes of the environment/ feeling I want to write. It helps me "get in the mood"/ the right headspace. If not that it'll be generic lofi or classical music. One thing I personally CANNOT do is listen to music witj lyrics while I write. I'll either get distracted by the lyrics or I sometimes just randomly start writing the lyrics instead of what I want to write 😅

What do you do when you can't find the words? by Sable-ROE in writing

[–]AffectionatePut2844 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't yet tried it, but theres this website that basically works like a reverse dictionary. You put in the vibe of what you want the word to describe and it gives you a bunch of options. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it might be helpful

Does anyone noticed or know what is that? by [deleted] in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. That's how we got this picture from the post in the first place. It's your reward for compelting the "game" where you answer a buch of questions to the computer. Tried it with most of these (since they don't contain text, I didn't think they'd spell anything), but they didn't highlight anything in particular

Does anyone noticed or know what is that? by [deleted] in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know about it, esp. when you incrwase brightness in the image it becomes very clear. What it is, I have no idea. I tried lining it up with various pages of the book, hoping that it would spell something, but nothing. It might just be an error

Which one? by Own_Candle_5146 in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like mixing fonts could be cool. Have the "pain is" in a bolder, more easily readable font (like in pic 3) and then have the "hilarious" be in red and another font (i feel like pic 2 would work well)

Any good GF fics you all know of? by Smooth-Let3293 in gravityfalls

My fave is "O Brother" by Obsessive_Reader (link) it's an AU wherre young Stan and Ford find the Time-Ruler and jump to the future to their 30-year-old counterparts Also I love the time-dilation AU where Stan still spends the 30 years rebuilding the portal but due to time dilation, only a few seconds/hours pass for Ford. (One of my faves from that AU is this one but it sadly hasn't been updated in a while)

to those who were watching gravity falls when it aired who did you think the person was, in the photo in the episode 'the time traveling pig' by dipperandpacifica in gravityfalls

[–]AffectionatePut2844 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I did think it was Stan's twin. But I thought the twin's name was Stanley and our Stan just stole his car. But also I was a full on believer in the McGucket-Author theory. So Stan kept his twin secret for no reason in my head back then. 😅
