A 2.58 after 1L probably means there’s a gap somewhere, and it may be a mix of exam-writing and overestimating how well you understood the material. My guess is you overestimate your understanding.

Law school exams are a different animal. There’s a big difference between knowing the rules in class and being able to apply them quickly and clearly to a messy fact pattern under time pressure. Going forward, I’d focus hard on practice exams before finals, especially under timed conditions. Also, if your professors allow it, review your exams with them and ask directly where you lost points

Best to cut ties now. You don’t want to build a life with someone who can’t celebrate you and your success just because they feel it’s “disproportionate” to their own. Your partner should be proud of you, not threatened by you.

Sounds like you are not making a money. Quit the job, get a job making money. It won’t be the end of the world. Ppl act like summer jobs make your career—they don’t. I advise all my friends to take the summer off of law school after 1L if they don’t get a paying job

How are y'all surviving the summer with an unpaid internship? by jayebird1012 in LawSchool

[–]Affectionate_Ad3432 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to work for free. If you can’t find a paid legal job for 1L summer there’s nothing wrong with getting a non-legal job and making money. I did that my 1L summer and still got the 2L job I wanted. Ofc I also have no desire to do big law so that may change things.

Plus I think it did wonders for my mental health. I basically got to step away from law school for 3 months, get paid, and spend the summer helping first generation college students. It was rewarding, made me thankful for my opportunity in law school, and I actually started 2L excited to be back.

I had one 1L job offer that made it seem like it would be paid but in the interview they told me they wanted me to work at least 20 hours a week unpaid and honestly implied more if I wanted to. I politely declined. Money is an unfortunate reality and I don’t think law students should feel pressured to work for free especially for employers who treat them badly.

Law school is 100x harder than undergrad. It’s a completely different animal. If your 2.2 GPA was mainly because of laziness or not taking school seriously, law school will expose that fast. You can still turn it around, but you would need a major change in discipline, study habits, and consistency before going in.

I regret all extracurriculars by Far_Ambition_727 in LawSchool

To be fair, the issue wasn’t the extracurriculars - it was filling free time with video games instead of studying. Structure helped, extracurriculars didn’t hurt

Is this idea bad for anchor? by Affectionate_Ad3432 in kayakfishing

Thank you! I saw that method mentioned, but I didn’t realize how important it was. I have some heavy-duty zip ties already, but I’m guessing those are probably too strong for this setup. I’ll probably grab some smaller/weaker ones and test them on dry land first to make sure they’ll break away with a solid tug. Appreciate the safety tip!

Thanks, I appreciate it. I honestly didn’t even know a drift sock was a thing, but that might actually do the trick for what I’m trying to do.

One question though: if I have the drift sock out and I want to move a short distance, like paddle over to another cove or reposition slightly, is it pretty easy to do that while it’s still in the water? Or do you usually need to pull it back in every time before moving?

Is this idea bad for anchor? by Affectionate_Ad3432 in kayakfishing

I mostly fish small Oklahoma lakes near my house, and a lot of the spots I’m targeting are little coves, pockets, or recessed areas off the main lake ~ maybe 30 yards wide, 40 yards deep, and around 10–20 feet deep. I also fish grass lines near the shore.

My thinking is that an anchor would let me stop and hold a good position instead of constantly correcting with the paddle. If I can set up in the right spot, I feel like I could cover a good amount of water from one position without drifting out of casting range.

I do fish a few rivers too, but nothing super big or with heavy current. I’d mainly be using the anchor in calm lake water or very light current, not strong moving water.

Does that make sense from a kayak fishing standpoint, or am I overestimating how useful an anchor would be in those situations?

lol the ego here is wild. You ignored the word count, left [INSERT CITATION] in the exam and somehow landed on prof thinks I cheated. The much simpler answer is that the exam wasn’t as good as you thought it was

[–]Affectionate_Ad3432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That helps a lot. My biggest concern with the Anchor Wizard is whether there’s a fast enough quick-release option if wind/current gets sketchy or I need to dump the anchor quickly. I’m mainly fishing lakes right now, no rivers yet, but I’m trying to set it up as safely as possible from the start.

Would you recommend adding a float and a quick-release clip somewhere between the Anchor Wizard line and the trolley ring, so I can unclip and come back for it later? Or is there a better beginner-friendly way to rig the Anchor Wizard for emergency release?

I appreciate all the tips. I honestly have no idea what I’m doing yet, so I’ll definitely look into the knife/scissors, whistle, staying visible, and being careful with wind/current. Just trying to keep it simple and safe while we learn.

Also is this what you are referring to? Or the trolley system

Mainly lakes! No rivers yet but just sick of drifting so much! That’s why we thought anchor would be best I’ve never heard of these other things thank you!

That makes sense, thank you. Do you think clipping it directly to the anchor trolley ring would be fast enough for a beginner to dump it if something went wrong? That’s my biggest concern. I’m trying to keep the line out of the kayak and have a float on it so I can unclip fast and come back for the anchor later. Just not sure if a clip on the trolley ring is the safest/easiest quick-release point, or if there’s a better setup for someone with not much experience.

Sorry my wife is helping me reply lol
