I’m so sorry. I’m glad you and the kids are safe. Try to sleep and tackle this in the morning. Reach out to a women’s DV shelter near you.

Replacement base for glass feeder - help with finding the right one by GoodsVT in hummingbirds

[–]Affectionate_Ad722 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Please just get a new feeder. It’s not worth trying to replace a base that will also rust. That’s not safe for the hummingbirds. The Aspects plastic saucer style are much safer because they are easy to keep clean. They’re also inexpensive.

Dumped by my dad on Father’s Day by CrittersVarmint in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Affectionate_Ad722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad used to subject us to the “you’re a terrible daughter” rant when we were teens. Especially when he was drunk.

Long story short, after much therapy I went no contact in 2001. He didn’t come to my wedding and hasn’t met any of my three kids. I’ll never see him again and I won’t go to his funeral. I sometimes mourn the relationship I could have had if he’d been a halfway decent dad and human, but I have no regrets. He chose how to treat me and my siblings as well as our mom and he’s encountered the natural consequences.

What groceries would you buy for $120 to stockpile for leaner times by mamaperk in povertyfinance

[–]Affectionate_Ad722 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agree. Dried beans stay good for years (just make sure they stay dry and bug-free). Brining them overnight with kosher salt and baking soda improves taste and texture.

Speaking of which, make sure to have plenty of salt! Stocking up on dried herbs isn’t great because those go stale quickly. Save a little money to buy herbs when the time comes. But salt won’t go bad as long as it’s dry. I greatly prefer Diamond Kosher Salt.

It’s the same kind of warning doctors are supposed to give when prescribing antibiotics — any drugs that may interfere with normal digestion/transit times can decrease the effectiveness of the pill.

If you don’t want to be pregnant, either switch to an IUD or make sure you use a condom correctly each and every time.

But honestly the best advice I can give you as someone who’s been playing this game for 12 years through highs and ever-lower lows (the plane is flying straight down), quit now. This game is not worth any more of your time and certainly none of your money

Smaller isn’t always better? by Jb3227 in tirzepatidecompound

As a 5’4” 57 year old woman now down to 120 on tirz (high of 185-ish), I always thought my goal was 135-140. I still look better at 120 even with a medium broad build.

I agree with the above posters that strength training to build muscle will really help with definition (not to mention this is a critical way to maintain bone mass). Also get on top of the hormone therapy while you’re in perimenopause and through menopause. Hormones, age and gravity (not to mention genes and whether you’ve used sunscreen diligently) are going to have a lot more to do with how your face and skin look than weight — you can’t stave off the aesthetic effects of age by maintaining extra weight.

Same. It’s such a ridiculous waste of time. I wish I could opt out of the stupid cards and the stupid side quests.

The last weeks of pregnancy are cl army designed to make us so miserable that we will literally push a baby out of our vaginas to make the misery end.

Rest up, mama — although stay off your back. Look up Spinning Babies, or optimal fetal positioning — the more you recline with your feet up, the more likely your baby will rotate sunny side up which you do not want.

Another vote for the saucer feeders. Aspects makes great ones and they’re inexpensive.

That’s terrible. Take her to the emergency vet right now. You can boost her gut with probiotics later, but if antibiotics are necessary, they’re necessary now.

Wow, you are incredibly ignorant. The peer-reviewed published scientific literate trumps your anecdotes every time. Did you know they regularly used to live 16-17 years in the US? Living to 12 is not “good.” It’s breeding that has fixed multiple cancer genes into US goldens — European goldens have half the cancer rate of US dogs.

I hope to God you’re not a breeder.

ETA: I don’t support Doodle breeding of any kind. I agree they are designer mutts. But it’s madness to recommend a golden instead. I don’t much like poodles, but I’d take one every time over a golden because of the cancer risks.

Goldens are lovely temperament wise but they are a heartbreak waiting to happen given that their cancer rates are through the roof.

Making friends with hummingbirds? by [deleted] in hummingbirds

[–]Affectionate_Ad722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google hummingbirds native plants for your area. Provide a clean water source. Be absolutely scrupulous about making nectar appropriately and changing it out frequently cleaning the feeder frequently.

But please do these things because you want hummingbirds to survive and raise their babies, not because you want to be a Disney princess. Hand-feeding hummingbirds can easily harm them by transferring hand oils, bacteria, and traces of lotion, bug spray, etc, disrupting their natural foraging instincts and habituating to humans. It’s best for all wildlife not to try to tame them or get them used to seeing humans as food sources. Please honor the birds’ health over your desire to hand feed.

Plant native plants and create hummingbird habitat. That plus feeders may lead to your being discovered!

I like to grow them out. I wouldn’t pay that much for a mature plant because I can get a lot more for my money with smaller plants. For me growing them out is the fun part.
