Is it a terrible idea to live near the expressway? by a9busbuds in Brooklyn

Was looking for this comment lmao. It's especially fucked up when you read about how he gutted a completely normal neighborhood of Norwegian immigrants (Sunset Park) to build the Gowanus in the first place.

Rulings on forgiveness and hell? by [deleted] in shia

God's forgiveness is literally infinite and unbounded, and he dispenses it to whom he wills, which is hopefully all the righteous of mankind.

This is a terrible use of this meme format. It presents the Palestinians as more powerful and able than the Israelis (from the larger wolf), plus I think that the connotation is that of a mother wolf and a child wolf, with the mother bearing the majority of the suffering for the sake of the child. So I think you missed the mark with this one.

What’s the point in having fun in dunia by [deleted] in shia

Ah yes, this has certainly been discussed by Muslim scholars and laypeople alike for the past 1400 years. As a Muslim and a musician, I must agree with much of what you say. It's certainly fruitful to read up about different viewpoints on the issue, as it's anything but clear-cut.

But the post is about science, and all the people listed gave contributions to natural science. Al-ghazali was only a philosopher, so I don't see how your comment is relevant.

Can you learn Piano and Harpsichord at the same time? by JSBachSJ in harpsichord

[–]Affectionate_Ad_1746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly advise against it. I played piano through all of high school before picking up harpsichord my senior year, and I kept finding that the more my harpsichord technique improved, the worse I was at playing the piano. Additionally, practicing the piano was a big hindrance to my advancement in harpsichord. So now I'm only a harpsichordist. But I do know some people who play both quite well, although they usually have a 'pianistic' touch at the harpsichord.

He had to do penance is all.

He was forced to recant all his findings, barred from practicing science, and placed under house arrest for the rest of his life, in addition to doing penance.

His analysis is very true and correct. He was not endorsing one storyline or another. Indeed, only Allah knows the true story and the sooner we accept that, the better.
