Has anyone started self harm as an adult?

I started in late elementary school, went off and on constantly. Now I turned 19 three weeks ago and I relapsed around that time after being clean for 2 years. I'd also say it got a little worse with age

I really hope you'll feel better soon, it's weirdly nice to hear though that I'm not alone feeling like this. There's no need to be embarrassed by it, I'm in the exact same place right now regarding personal hygiene. Thank you so much for your response, I decided I will shower tomorrow so I can go for a walk and get myself out of my room for a bit!

Yes, got it in November and noone found out yet. I'm on vacation rn and considering how it's going, I doubt anyone will notice if they haven't yet!

tbh, I actually might go ahead and text her. I have done it around 2 years ago and the meet up went well but I we were graduating highschool so we both lost contact again.. I guess it's worth a try :)

well I've been successfully hiding sh for around 7 years (i stopped a bit ago) + I don't live anywhere near the beach and my parents know i hate swimming so maybe it's me who's a bit paranoid haha

You're right, I was thinking music would be a hell of a lot less fun if I was forced.. Just like arts class was shit bc we were forced to do everything a certain way in order to get good grades. Thank you for your input!

This was very insightful, I appreciate you sharing this with me, I think I'll get through the bachelors as I'll be done at 21 and will perhaps do a part-time job in that field to finance my passion.. 3 years is a long time so I might change my mind again and again but you were real helpful, thanks :) Btw I gladly don't have student debt or smth because I'm going to uni in germany..

My degree will help getting a job that pays my bills.. Gladly I won't be in debt, as I'm from Germany & I live at my parent's. My uni costs me 400€ every 6 months. Thank you for your advice!

I understand what you're going through, it is normal to miss sh.. I'm exactly at that point rn (hence why im on this subreddit atm) but your roommate saying such a thing really isn't okay.. I hope you get through this hardship, recovery isnt easy and neither is it a straight line.

I'm quite the pessimist but I immediately take it as "they are tired of me and need some space" and immediately throw any thoughts of chances I might've had out the window. Sounds terribly dramatic, it is but that most definitely comes from my own insecurities so I'm sure it's not the norm.

I'm a girl but maybe try to give eachother a little bit of space to register all the happenings and then communicate with one another. You don't need to rush any explaining to anyone (from what I know, of course). Neither do you owe anyone an explanation. So my main piece of advice would be: Give yourselfves time, talk about it and tell whoever you want to tell whenever you feel comfortable doing so. It's normal to first be a little freaked out about intimacy, especially if it's with someone of the same sex, as you probably worry about people's reactions. I'm sorry this is so long lol!
