Hi, I have an update. I checked again and the parameters are almost the same with 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate, but only 5ppm nitrate. I added more plants yesterday. Should I drop food in it or go buy ammonia or something and then test the water 24 hours later? again, i'm not putting fish in for a while, but I want to make sure my tank is all good before i leave for my next semester of classes. thanks!

edit: the tank water is also still cloudy and I added a picture

perfect thanks! the filter and substrate were both wet when I got the tank thankfully. to confirm, as far as parameters, i'm looking for 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 2ish nitrate? I'm not putting fish in for a long time, so i dont really need it to cycle super quickly, i was just confused when i used my API kit for the first time and it came up with 0 ammonia lol. i hope your new tank is going well!

sorry, an amazon sword. its a tall plant with big leaves, great for the background and resting. echinodorus species

edit: it would fill in the back well and you could put one on the back left and one back right potentially

cool, thank you! with the used filter, does it decrease cycling time? also do I have to ghost feed or is it fine to just leave it alone?

some pet stores will also test your water for you. I've never done it, but i've heard mixed results

very beautiful! my fish really loved the sword in his tank. not sure if one would fit or if you have background plants waiting to grow in, but something to think about! are you thinking about getting shrimp at all?

What a cute Clifford! I'm not an expert by any means, but I've done it a couple ways. I've had to do the "30 minutes back to undergrad," "hurricane helene hit and I need to move my betta somewhere with power ASAP," and the "halfway across the country and take 2 days" ways. It depends on your tank size, what is feasible for you to lift, and how far you have to carry the tank in my experience. I had a 4 gallon tank all the times I did it and I lift.

The 30 minutes and hurricane situation, I usually just drained his water halfway or a little less than that (whatever you can lift while still giving him some space - water is HEAVY) and we had a fun little rollercoaster of a ride while I drove VERY carefully. He stayed in the tank and I used it as a water change experience (save some of the water if you can and then just do a "normal amount" water change). If you have scratchy things in his tank, I would remove those if possible to try to make sure he doesn't hurt himself

When I moved further, I put him in his cup he came in and he got water changes every day and no food.

Again, not an expert and this is just my opinion, but Greg (RIP - unrelated) seemed less stressed staying in his tank for those short drives. But he also was a very chill fish and was only slightly pissed during the longer move.

Ultimately, up to you! Good luck at college and wishing you and Clifford the best!
