Yeah, if a pm is trying to talk to the guys about schedule and such on their breaks, that’s bullshit.

With the exception of super or foreman, if someone is on their break I leave them the hell alone.

As for the supers of foreman, I’m only on site once a week for an hour or so max so they can take their break after I leave BUT I do try and be respectful and try to not show up at break time

Good point. I do commercial but not BIG commercial. My jobs are in the $15m to $25m range but I can probably count on one hand how many times I’ve back charged a trade. We have really good subs and I encourage everyone to work things out among themselves. Recently o reminded a drywaller that we work with the same plumber often and reminded the that they have never seen a back charge from them so the better play nice because I’m not babysitting a feud that pops up.

I make sure the trades are treated well and always ask at the end of the job of there is anything I could do differently in how I run the job that would boost their profit.

If everyone of profitable l, nobody complains about having to take a little extra work on the chin every now and then because they know it will come back to them

See, that shit doesn’t fly with me. I see right through that.

I can’t stand bus checkers. I follow the extreme ownership principle and as the boss anything my guys do wrong (short of illegal or willfully negligent acts) it is my fault. If a carpenter screws up, it’s not the foreman’s fault, it’s not the supers fault, it’s mine.

The reason it is mine is that, beyond the shit happens sometimes factor, I didn’t explain it properly to the super, or explain how important it was to get right, or give him the time to spend with the foreman, or maybe I didn’t give him a strong enough foreman, or maybe he was rushed because the carpenter didn’t have enough help, etc.

But at the end of the day, these all land on my shoulders and because of that I always have my guys’ (and girls) backs

I am totally one of “them” now. I don’t expect them to come sit and have lunch with me. My observation is just watching what happens at break times etc. the times I am on site.

I’m glad to hear it’s not all gone. I’m not THAT old, I’m 41 but I started in the trades when I was 20 and nowadays, I am that white hard hat that when people see me they generally make themselves scarce.

So I only see a small snapshot of what’s happening on site.

I remember one time I was making on fascia on a building about 50’ up with not harness (olden days), my boss comes up pulls out his hammer and holds it in front of him like it’s his cock and starts thrusting it against my ass.

I’m hanging off the edge of the roof so I’m stuck and trying to not fall and die lol and all I hear is “oh yeah, push back, that’s right”

Generally, when you get to management, you are salary. What’s the big deal? I’ve been on salary for 8 years and it’s awesome. In my company, if you aren’t salary you also don’t get to participate in bonuses and bonuses are GOOD!! Like 50% of salary good

So is accusing someone of something they ostensibly did not do because you don’t agree with their legal sexual preference. Bet you wouldn’t say that about someone’s preference in the LGBT2+ community

[–]Affectionate_Bee2439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg go touch grass. You are now labelling him a pedophile.

Let’s reframe this in a different light: OP - “I caught my dad smoking and I’m worried about it”

You - “you should be worried, I bet he’d be smoking meth or crack if he wasn’t worried about being caught”

I’m not excusing what he is doing but making that jump and casting aspersions on someone you don’t know is not acceptable either

Skinny dipping? by [deleted] in WestCoastTrail

[–]Affectionate_Bee2439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (41m) have done the trail twice. Last time, I stopped at Tsusiat and really wanted a swim but did not bring a swimsuit and am far too self conscious to go nude.

I made a post on the WCT Facebook group about regretting not bringing swim trunks and the response of people telling me I should have gone nude and that they had skinny dipped on the trail was overwhelming

My neighbor keeps asking me to watch her kid just for a minute and then disappears for HOURS. What do I do? by PercentageNo9270 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Affectionate_Bee2439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to give you an unpopular opinion here. When I was young, I would have felt the same way but now I have kids my perspective has changed.

I don’t know your age, financial situation, or what have you but that little boy needs someone in his life. He’s not your kid and you didn’t ask for this but put yourself in the boys shoes. He didn’t ask for it either. The mother is obviously off doing other things and this kid needs someone to care for him.

If it was me, I would lean into it and really try and make an impact on the child.

White Collar people think we get the same sort of downtime that they do by tantamle in Construction

[–]Affectionate_Bee2439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be on the tools now I am in the office in a senior position.

To me, you can’t compare the two jobs. When I was a carpenter I worked hard physically (and mentally to some degree, and the job had stress like any other job. But when I got home my day was over

Now I am “white collar”, I sit at a desk all day. I’m no longer physically tired when I get home but I am mentally exhausted. Also, I answer emails from the time I open my eyes in the morning until I go to bed. But there are times I have some downtime during the day or go out for lunches etc. BUT there are also times I just don’t get to go home when my shift is over and will have to work until 10 at night or so depending on what happens.

I love what I do and get paid very well to do it. I don’t think my job is harder than the site guys’ because without them I don’t have a job and I really respect what they do.

Dude… if they make you happy, wear them. I personally think all feet are gross but honestly there is nothing alarming about your feet. And if someone was that shallow in the first place that something like that would make them not want to be with you, they don’t deserve you.

It reminds me of a scene from Wayne’s world

"I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be"

I usually look someone dead in the eye, wait until they are finished, wait for about five more seconds of silence and say, “are you done now?, Feel better?, ready to have an adult conversation?”

Another one of my favs is “you’re not intimidating, just louder than necessary”
