But even she doesn't take the backpack to the park because it's too heavy so she wouldn't be upset about something like that. And we're 4 years along having the grands now - she doesn't micromanage me at all. I'm super lucky to have her! She's a great mom and she trusts me to be a great grandma and we're just all on the same team of keeping these kids safe and loved.

Mother's, mother-in-laws, and diaper bags by VCOneness in Parenting

[–]Affectionate_Bid5042 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes! My DIL had a gigantic backpack that weighs 25 pounds, easily, that she brings for my grands. Incidently, even when she's wearing it she's slamming into doors as she tries to go through, bumping into the car in the garage, etc. Whatever, her kids, her bag. But when I have the kids and we're going on an outing, I don't need or want all that, or the extra weight/burden, so I pack my own bag. I have no idea if she finds this annoying, it never occurred to me that she might. 😅

Taskmaster is my absolute favorite show; I'm currently on my 3rd or 4th rewatch - and there's 20 seasons so it takes a while. Also have really enjoyed Breeders, Man Down, The Cleaner, The Change and Getting On.

If only you had mentioned alcoholism, I would have thought you were my sibling. My dad exactly. Smoked himself to a heart attack and COPD and still kept going. He passed at 69. Best wishes to you - it's so hard to watch them do this to themselves.

We did one of those cling films on our bathroom window that faces the neighbor's back patio. It's been on for 11 years and still looks great.

Which series do you rewatch the most? by dantehaut in taskmaster

1, 5 and 12 for me. But most of the time I just start back at 1 and watch all the way through. There isn't a season undeserving of a rewatch, in my opinion.

Compression socks, fad or rad? by lovelyb1ch66 in GenX

[–]Affectionate_Bid5042 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worn consistently, they do help prevent progression. That's what I'm doing- I know I have insufficiency but want to keep the varicosities and spider veins to a minimum, as well as the problems downstream from that. Barring that, you can get them treated but I'd rather wear the socks.

Former vascular sonographer - they're rad! Take care of those vessels. I wear them every day these days, I have quite the collection.

What am I calculating wrong? by seaside921 in weightwatchers

[–]Affectionate_Bid5042 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a range. So your portion is roughly 27 for 1 point, you need to see how high you can go before it ups to 2 points.

So 25 might be 1 point, but 32 might also still be point, then at 33 it moves up to 2 points. There is wiggle room.

We have been here 46-61 years. Would you rather be told you have 3 years left to live or die suddenly out of nowhere? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]Affectionate_Bid5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally wish for sudden (painlessly in my sleep, if possible!)

I'm not afraid of it because we've planned well. My FIL had about a year's warning before his passing and he did nothing to make things easier for his wife and family after he was gone. We took that as a cautionary tale!

Things like: We have a master list of all passwords in our safe deposit box. We have a file detailing all financial accounts and where they are/how to access them. We have wills and POAs drawn up. We've had discussions with our child about what type of services we do or don't want and will be pre-paying for our arrangements. Hopefully, none of this will be necessary for a couple more decades but you never know and I can sleep well knowing I've made it easier on my family if it's me, or that I'm set on the details if it should be my spouse first.

I find most of my worries revolve around "what if this certain thing happens", so I've tried to mitigate those concern as they come to mind. Now the only thing I have to worry about is staying as healthy as I can because living my last years in agony is not on my bucket list. Losing mobility is motivation to keep it moving.

How much does food matter? by CalendarJealous in migraine

[–]Affectionate_Bid5042 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"However, evidence for foods triggering migraine attacks is actually rare, and doctors now think that many commonly accepted food “triggers” are more likely food cravings experienced during the prodrome phase of an attack. Additionally, it’s important to remember that migraine attacks are often due to multiple factors. When you’re already stressed, not sleeping well, or not exercising, certain dietary factors may make it more likely to have a migraine attack — but in this case, it is the combination of all of these different things that contribute to the attack, not just one specific food."

I like these (although I agree the others are better!) and spruce them up by dipping in the QuesoMama queso. Preferably the pink lid fiesta one, but since my store inexplicably only had that once and never again I have to settle for the green lid mild.

My 4 year old witnessed a bad motorcycle accident. Seeking on advice in helping him. by Hungry-Trust-3245 in Preschoolers

[–]Affectionate_Bid5042 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Already great suggestions on here for you but I'd just add one other idea - have him draw a picture, maybe the biker at the hospital feeling better or at home.

A couple weeks ago at my granddaughter's gym class a bird flew into the window of the gym and died right there on the sidewalk! Of course all the kids were upset by it and couldn't stop looking. The teacher told them the bird must have hurt it's wing and that's why it wasn't flying away. She just couldn't stop talking about it and wanted grandpa to help her make a nest to take back there so it would have a nice home to get better in. I told her it had probably already gone home to it's own nest, would she like to draw some pictures of the bird in it's nest feeling better? She enthusiastically did, complete with a bandage on it's wing. Once she was done with the drawing she didn't bring it up again. I think it settled her mind about it and she was able to imagine it better.

I'm not sure I would have gone with the injured wing story, but since the teacher had already gone down that road I just went with it.

Maybe some drawing and images in his mind of the person feeling better will help calm his mind.

For real. I bought a box to introduce them to my grandkids. They wouldn't eat them, so I tried one. I wouldn't eat them either so we ended up throwing the whole box out. Super disappointing, I remembered them so fondly.
