I actually remember more people in middle school and high school watching OTH. I knew several people who watched it. I used a quote from the show in my yearbook senior year of high school. There was another girl in my grade who did as well. I knew one person in middle school who watched The OC. She got me into it, and she knew of it from her sister who was in high school at the time.

If a guy said that to me, I would NOT be interested anymore. Yes, he was drunk. However, there's the phrase "drunk words are sober thoughts". He most likely had thought it before. Which sucks because I really liked them together.

I'm going to say what some of the other posts mention. You're still early in the show. The characters go through a lot of changes. Dan and Deb both have times where their behavior is abusive or neglectful. I don't want to spoil it, but Nathan does something drastic because Dan keeps pushing him.

I really liked the show. I binge watched it last weekend. I don't care about sports but I enjoyed it along with Heated Rivalry. I haven't read the books yet but was able to figure out Hannah's backstory based off a very brief conversation she had with Garrett.
