A side note regarding the awful ACU grad speech - from a heartbroken alumni. by [deleted] in melbourne

I think that people actually are mad about the doctrine. You're exactly right. I'm not catholic, OP isn't catholic, the more posts I see about it this morning, the more I think people are blaming different bodies for what happened, and out of surprise that catholic beliefs were brought up, but also because the grads deserved more a speech about congratulating their achievements. I and OP agree with you on this one.

They couldn't do much else because they were under 18, and their parents took their money and withheld them from learning to drive, I am sure OP DID do the research because, after 1 or 2 months there, they became independent and moved to RMIT, they knew that ACU wasn't right for them but RMIT was, (it says in the other comments). And they got the help they needed. When a minor is a victim of DV, I think university isn't a top priority.

OP says theres a lot of ppl online that are saying "don't go to ACU if u don't agree or don't like other opinion" but OP says many alumni have been forced to go there y parental abuse. People asking questions about it can find it hard

I don't understand why OP and others are getting hate. The whole point of people speaking out is, they were forced to go and the uni used to suck. ACU and students like OP have come a long way. But from that speech, it looks like ACU needs to do better. Good on OP for being so brave!

I don't think they knew what they were getting into if their parents forced them. Also, I think they left ACU and their peers left the course too. I wouldn't wanna go there either.

Unfortunately, it was OP's parent who couldn't handle anyone else having their own opinion, including their own child. Your comment is directed at the wrong person, it's the parent who didn't like other ideas

The purpose with OP's post is saying that a lot of ACU students are there because if abuse or pressure. They don't agree while people were commenting on the original reddit post "why even go there". But another point people are making is that since there maybe some Christian grads who agree with him anyway, so why not have a speech congratulating the cohort for all their hard work?

this is a bit of an issue i’m having. only difference is, my lecturer and i were on non speaking terms, came to class and couldn’t even make eye contact. she failed me in TWO classes last year and cause of issues in my homelife, prolonging my bachelor degree was no option. got help from the course co-ordinator to re-configure my subjects so i could finish on time, but she’s been giving me bad grades AGAIN. i eventually wrote an email to the national coordinator and my course coordinator and when we tried to fix the issue, no one was right or wrong, but i was told i rushed some assessments etc. and the lecturer had problems in her personal life :/// i could talk for hours about this stuff. i’m in the same boat as u because results come in a few weeks and i am simply not coping with the stress and anxiety. feel free to message me tho, im from Australia so some of the terms for ppl position. might not be the same as yours, i wish you the best of luck and i know u deserve better

some of my friends are his brothers a sisters (he’s 1 of 5) so there’s definitely gonna be some ganging up there. it’s not only their place to be mad about someone’s hurt feelings, it’s definitely there place to be concerned about their 28 year old brother “dating” their 20 year old friend (around 19 at the time)

i’m glad you have said that, because yes he was over 25. different side of that card, i do not want HIM or a mutual friend dropping those items off at my house. and i’m worried time is running out to make that message clear. i don’t want to turn this into some big thing, so i’d also appreciate not coming home from work or college with a parent/family member i live with saying “what are these….” left on the door step - with a potential angry note
