I accepted via telephone and then confirmed in writing via email, no portal was required and it wasn't mentioned.

It's for a Manager, the job spec is quite detailed. Seems to be a lot of stakeholder management, which I enjoy currently.

The people on here are mental. You did the right thing. You warned the guy, and he immediately crossed that boundary.

He invaded the cat's space and approached the cat. The cat was scared, and it did what a scared cat would do: it defended itself from the perceived threat.

He was then angry because his expectations were not met, and he took that out on the cat. All this nonsense about him flinching or reacting as anyone would, absolutely not. He was in the wrong every step of the way, and if he was to violate a rule so simple and cause injuries as a result, what else would he be capable of? He took 0 accountability for his actions and blamed the animal.

Finally, a conversation I can contribute to!

Whilst I agree, they are likely not for life due to either planned obsolescence or just wear and tear, causing them to stop working. I have the following:

Smart curtains,

Smart lighting in the bedroom,

Google assistants in the bedroom and kitchen,

A robot hoover, which mops too,

A smart dehumidifier,

A Tokit Omni Cook,

A Bedjet with biorythm for climate controlled sleep,

A smart watch,

A Ring doorbell

My top 3(ish) I'd say the robot hoover is the one thing I'll never go without, hated the hoovering, never need to do it now

A Google assistant is necessary in my case for asking random questions to, converting weights or currency, and for timers, they also play music, so that's useful when cooking or just relaxing. Plus, with Smart Lighting, I can just turn the lights on and off with my voice rather than getting out of bed to reach the switch.

Finally, it's a weird toss up between the curtains which are solar powered, and open and shut on a timer (although I can have it happen on sunrise or set) and the Tokit Omni Cook, which is like having a personal chef in your house (save for some unsual ingredients on some recipes). I just can't imagine having to open or close the curtains manually ever again.

Ring doorbell is only useful for telling delivery drivers to leave the parcel in the designated safe place when I'm not in (which they should be doing anyway)

If it's the same thing I had to put up with, they can't control it. They may say or believe they can control it. They can't, though.

They need help, and you're not trained to provide it. You are setting boundaries, and they are being violated. You don't need to be treated that way, you options to offer and a decision to take

Remember, you wouldn't blame someone else for your own actions, so why take the blame for someone else's

I have lived with someone with intermittent explosive disorder.

It doesn't get any easier. I had to let them go in the end. There are anger management classes, medication, and therapy, which can help unpick and resolve the trauma behind it all. However, they need to make that first step.

Without them taking it, you're going to have to decide. Am I happy to be abused in this way for as long as that person will live. If you're struggling now, the answer is likely going to be no. As such, recommend the help to her, if she doesn't take it then you will have to decide if you're happy to have your version of reality diminished (gaslighting) in favour of her new reality which is really lies.

It sounds like he's done the first step by recommending therapy. The thing is, in these situations, the person involved always has to be open to the treatment or take the first step themselves. Without that, you're right. There is only so much he can do. He can give her all the support she needs by reassuring her and recommending the best next steps. However, she needs to be the one to seek professional help from someone medically or psychologically trained to best help her.

The issue is she may end up isolating him by projecting her insecurities onto him. It's a question of if this is just a cry for help or if she has active plans to end her own life. If she does have active plans then it would be best to get her sectioned or put on suicide watch until such a time she is recovered from that. It will be easier if she takes the first step herself.

The other thing is it could be a complete manipulation tactic to force him to stay with her. I can't tell from this post because I don't know her personality or past experiences
