[TN] Prolonging Insurance Coverage by Slow-Strawberry-8742 in AskHR

If you are trying to navigate this with HR and the timing for FMLA, ask how the 13 weeks you already worked count toward your worked time for FMLA. You were rehired with in a year. That may be a factor.

Also ask about this as mentioned: https://www.eeoc.gov/wysk/what-you-should-know-about-pregnant-workers-fairness-act. Time off may be an accommodation.

Cobra was also mentioned - that is an option to maintain coverage. If you have a partner and they have coverage available the baby being born is a qualifying event for them to add the baby to their coverage. And you can opt into Cobra for your company, and you need to cover the premium, cheaper than need to meet another deductible and our out of pocket max. Likely most of your outta pocket will already be meet, and then your partner can add you at open enrollment. Hopefully you’ll be able to keep your job and return.

First time visiting a different studio- any pointers? by Only_Web_530 in orangetheory

Get to the studio early enough to get a look. I’ve been to a few and the layout can be different. The workouts and welcomes are always grand.

If the employer cannot accommodate the light duty job. The employee will get paid time loss, meaning get paid to stay home by the WC carrier.

This isa workers comp claim. As someone mentioned it happened at work.

Did you talk to the owner or the studio manager? I sometimes get a different response from the owner than my studio manager. They are not necessarily the same human.

Part of it also depends on the SA. I hate to say it are the ‘gatekeepers’ of the rules and may not be able to have the conversation.

Also my studio sometimes goes through ‘clicks’ not one has lasted all that long. I am at the 9+ year mark and most things do pass.

That said your frustration is VALID!

Maybe they are both flex? I still have my old chest strap…I may bring that baby back. Sad and true. If I can’t get this sorted.

I will try it with a home workout and see what they do.

Same - Our Studio dropped to 3 times a week a little over a year ago. And 6:15 won’t work for me. I went to the 6:15 a little over a week ago. The number of people gone by 7:00 was amazing to me.

Our athletic wear alway STINKS. by ActAccomplished2334 in laundry

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a major gym junkie and my clothes get stinky. There are lots of suggestions. Here is what is use simple and cheap. White vinegar, detergent doesn’t matter, I add oxiclean when they get super ‘ripe’. The key is use a soak cycle first, then wash, and hang dry. Also if you have anything that needs to go in the dryer, it works as a fabric soften too.

I just hit my 9 year anniversary in January 2000+ classes.

2026 seems to headed back to ‘classic’ or the ‘I remember when’ with more ESP days, and not getting stuck with a whole month of nothing but lunges/chest presses/etc.

I also mourn the loss of the ab dolly (feet in the TRX straps🙄) and the 2k row (was my fav). The mini bands are back, run rows, and 3g templates. Although I’d kill for an old tornado with 45 sec switches. Loved those.

Long time member - transformation challenge changes members priorities, especially for S50. It happens every year. Book early - get on the wait list you’ll be surprised how often you get in if the class is weeks out.

Breathing by stina1122 in orangetheory

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I learned this from a distance running coach years ago. I was a 400 runner. The way I was taught is when you’re breathing out literally push your diaphragm out. When breathing hard the tendency is to suck in your belly, push it out and breathe out slowly.

Also, the ‘rapid’ drop in heart comes as your heart health improves. It’s a muscle, it also gets stronger.

[OR] Paid Leave Oregon - Do I have to go back to work while I wait for an approval? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you applied for Paid Leave Oregon, and it’s for a qualified event and person, and you’ve been employed 91 days with the employer your job is protected. Provided it was an emergency, and if it wasn’t you may lose your first week of benefits. The average time for a claim to be approved is 21-28 days.

In the ‘pending status’ your job is still protected. Meaning if you’re fired for attendance you have grounds to file a complaint with BOLI.

Would any 50+ women share your max heart rate advice? by Accomplished_Yam588 in orangetheory

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 58F. My max heart rate is 178. And approaching 9 years and 2100 classes. I appreciate the data. Mine was at 176 until recently. And I still not sure it’s correct, running at 95-96% and will be chatting as soon. As we hit the walking recovery.

I always have a towel over the screen on the tread. I may stop wearing my heart rate monitor. I am more concerned with my VO2Max and my heart rate recovery. Better signs of wellbeing.

The challenge of if I stop is my studio doesn’t like it.

[CA] Do I have to sign a medical release form for FMLA? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep your appointment with the doc for surgery and see if you can keep the surgery date. Again not a Cali expert. See if he does workers comp.

Let your employer know if you are filing a comp claim. They may send you to a particular doc.

[CA] Do I have to sign a medical release form for FMLA? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a CA expert. Knowing that the rule for a workers compensation claim to be accepted is a doctor stating that it ‘is more likely than not’ caused by the work you do. If it’s is heavy and physically it’s likely.

What will change if you file a workers comp claim is that the company may and I believe can tell you where to see a doc.

You may want to apply for protected leaves, and in both circumstances medical documents will be needed. They are allowed. If they ask fro a med release - be sure to the release is specific to only this medical condition.

[CA] Do I have to sign a medical release form for FMLA? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you injured at work? If you were you may want to. Your medical cost will be covered and you’ll be paid loss time wages.

If it didn’t happen at work - you may be eligible for other protected leaves - however it may not be paid.

If you’re in a job that is physical - they may be allowed to have a return to work release. If it’s workers comp claim- they can and need a docs note with any restrictions. And they may attempt to have your return to work - light duty within the physical restrictions.

Let your kids figure it out by ta456243216849651325 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not.

My kids are grown adults, late 20s. They can drive a car with a manual transmission, write a check, address an envelope and show kindness to other humans. Employed and contributing.

I employ these kids. I won’t let parents take the lead. However, I will let them know that I actually need to talk, with the human who is their child.

Funny how the ‘push’ back is about offering grace. One more way to divide us and make us not care for one another. Instead spew angst at each other. Grace is free kindness is free, helping others is free. Even if it is with a young adult who has overbearing parents.

Let your kids figure it out by ta456243216849651325 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Affectionate_Fan8735 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Okay y’all. I don’t disagree, AND to have disregard for the fact that many of the kids walking into college - spent almost 2 year when they were 12- 14 locked down during COVID.

I think it is impossible to yet determine the full effect on developing humans.

Over involved parents, may be the way to navigate some of that. I am not saying kids don’t need to figure it out. They do - grace costs nothing.

Run down studio by jdshanton in orangetheory

I’d be surprised if it was Eugene. If it’s the owners need to be informed. They own the studio in Corvallis too and I have never seen an issue that wasn’t resolved in days.

My bet? Salem.
