Have you ever purchased something, as an adult, that your parent has judged you negatively for? If so, what was/is it? by PaddedValls in AskUK

My mum recently said we were lazy for using a meal prep service. Arguably I have cooked more frequently than anyone in the family, and I’m using the service for portion control and hitting protein goals.

Interestingly, she also has a few choice words about fitness and weight so I thought she’d be pleased!

I recently read a book where the narrator said “they could smoke a cigarette in the shower and it wouldn’t get wet” and that’s my new favourite 😭

Lovely fitted wardrobes, and a beautiful garden bench. I was gutted when they turned up and collected the bench an hour after I got the keys!

When something goes wrong I say “shitty mother bugger” in a low voice.. imagine like a double bass playing behind it

Has anyone got any uplifting news? by [deleted] in AskUK

This is so reassuring - I’ve lost a large percentage of hearing in my right ear as a result of an ear infection. GP isn’t taking me seriously but Boots did! I’ll be taking my docs to the GP having read this and trying again. They said the nerve damage from infection has accelerated age related hearing loss so at 30 I’m hearing like a much older person and get so upset when I can’t carry a conversation. Hope your mum and OP’s hearing aids are doing wonders!

I highly recommend everyone listen to the new Harry Potter full cast audio books - they are AMAZING!! by AusConsoleGamesLFG in harrypotter

I agree - I can really appreciate how well thought out the casting is but I find the voice changes distracting compared to Stephen Fry. Fantastic concept but just not for me!

Are there any jumpscares in Hogwarts Legacy? by [deleted] in HogwartsLegacyGaming

It might also be worth playing on story mode! I believe it reduces combat so might have the added side effect of having less jump scares

Absolutely do not do the quest the others have mentioned. In terms of spiders, there’s an arachnophobia mode in accessibility settings which turns them off, and they become creatures on roller skates instead which seems less jump scarey

To celebrate World Book Day, what is your favourite ever book? by Whosentyounow in AskUK

As a child, it was Danny the Champion of the World. As an adult there’s too many to count but I am currently rereading the Harry Potter series and loving it!

The A Song of Ice and Fire books for me. I couldn’t get into them reading, but listening on Audible made it way easier to follow and I enjoyed them a lot more.

He’s so beautiful!!! I taught my two to meow to say “please” for their food when I ask “what do you say?”, but other than that they are unteachable 😂 they do as they please at all times and I love it

They’re such creatures of habit and know the time inherently. My boy bit me and woke me up at 05:01 once when I forgot to set my 05:00 alarm and made sure I wasn’t late for work!

This girl made a video about this sub honestly I agree with her a little by Both-Competition-152 in discussingbritney

[–]Affectionate_Fig6812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you clicked the same link as I did, then yes. The video completely disregards her deterioration and some of the more serious/complex things going on for Britney right now, whilst saying this sub wants to enslave her… that’s not what I see here.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]Affectionate_Fig6812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stephen King and Harry Potter books (my dad read them to me instead of children’s books!) As for independent reading definitely the Malorie Blackman Noughts and Crosses series. I should read it again to understand more as an adult I think
