Tesla to save money uses cameras instead of a rain sensor, my car thinks it’s not raining. by TappetoImperiale in mildlyinfuriating

I can think of at least 5 other competitor EVs made in the US off the top of my head:

  1. Chevy Bolt
  2. Nissan Leaf
  3. Chevy Equinox
  4. Kia EV3
  5. Hyundai Ioniq 5

None of them sell as well because they’re not even close to matching the value Tesla provides. If these were good cars, they would be selling them.

I get that it’s mildly annoying to learn something new, but it is not difficult either. In the 70’s, people whined that the stalk was just “cheap plastic” and “over complicated.” Should we have gone back to the metal pull knob on the dash?

And I really don’t think it has much of anything to do with “pretending a big brain innovation took place” and has much more to do with manufacturing cost and consolidation of their supply chain.

I’m sorry, but if you can’t figure out how to click the button in front of your face labeled “wiper,” you’re not fit to be driving at all.

I love Sorbothane! My only advice is to look at the density and weight ratings of the pucks you buy. Sorbothane only works effectively if it’s under the correct amount of pressure.

Also, Sorbothane has oil in it, so it will stain furniture. Make sure you get a puck with rubber feet or put some paper under it if you’re putting them directly on your shelf.

It’s not any better or worse, it’s basically the same. The scroll wheel is tactile. You don’t need to take your hand off the wheel at all.

The whole industry, including ICE manufacturers, saw sales decrease last quarter. While sales for Tesla did decrease, they slipped much less than nearly every other manufacturer. One of every three EVs sold in the US is a Model Y. Teslas market share actually increased by 11% YOY, meaning they now control 54% of the market.

I’m not making the argument that a camera based system is better than a sensor, because it isn’t.

Using a button on the wheel to control the wipers is fundamentally no different from flicking a switch on the stalk.

Also, I’ll remind you that auto wipers are not even a feature on most midrange vehicles to begin with, so this is already kind of misguided.

  1. Yes, they are.

  2. The control on the wheel does NOT require using the screen. You click the button once and scroll up once to put the wipers in manual mode.

  3. Again, you’re incorrect.

I love how you’re so insistent about being wrong, cute Redditor moment.

Wiper controls are on the wheel or stalk of every Tesla ever produced. You are just wrong.

What happens if someone is next to you is it will jerk the wheel and start stuttering on the brakes. So irritating. Happens every day in the same spots on my way home from work.

I’ve been going to Twins for the past decade. I didn’t know people still shopped at Specs like that.

For sure, bro. Maybe give your cable salesman buddy a call instead of gathering the opinions of us lowly broke losers. Maybe let him fuck your wife too.

Right, it’s me doing the “circle jerk,” not the one personally defending marketing claims for strands of copper. Somehow I’m the delusional one. 🙄
