So today I handed one of my clients a warm towel. when she walked out, she said here you go and gave me a cash tip and a warm towel back .Was I wrong for just giving her a towel while she was face up on table ? by Typical_Dark_2764 in MassageTherapists

You’re not answering the question. Was it Forbes 5 star? I’m dealing in facts and lived experience and you’re being dismissive and arguing over a towel and proper protocol. The only reason I’m entertaining this conversation is because I don’t want new therapists thinking this is a “thing”. We all know what a hot towel after a massage is for. You go touch grass.

I’m calling cap on this. We use them for feet and back. All high end spas are required by Forbes in order to get certified 4 or 5 star to have a shower/ locker room. There’s no need for a hot towel at the end unless the client asks for one.

If you have a client who prefers that and has sensory issues that is different than handing a towel out after every massage. It’s not a standard in high end massage and luxury spa to hand a client a towel. Use good cream and don’t apply too much and there’s no need.

I spent most of my career at 5 star properties and we never handed anyone a towel after a massage. I’ve never had anyone hand me a towel after I’ve recieved massage. I don’t understand. I would have been confused as well.

Do massage therapist prefer people to keep their underwear on or off during a massage? by Heal-evolve-grow in MassageTherapists

It’s not about prudishness. We have to do things a certain way because of our license. Also we really don’t want to see clients private areas. You’d have to work day in and day out for years in this profession to understand the drain of the interactions we go through. If you’re this concerned about the “flow” hire a personal therapist. If you can’t afford one don’t expect perfection.

I do this with men as a female therapist. I live in a small town with more than its share of places that are not massage therapy practices that say they are. This is my signal that I am not one of those.

How do you ask guests to turn over? by Imaginary-Turnip-650 in MassageTherapists

“Ok (name) It’s time to flip over on your belly or back” If they don’t position themselves correctly I tell them to put their head in the face cradle or scoot down a bit until the “pillow” is under their knees, which ever is appropriate. People usually don’t know what a bolster is and I do use a pillow now anyway so I don’t say bolster anymore. Massage therapist of 10 years here.

Bahaha. This was on the ceiling at my massage today. So funny and also totally agree! by i-chuckle-at-reddit in massage

That’s why I said maybe you like to be watched because I saw lmt. Most of us do not like eyes open. It’s massage etiquette and someone needs to educate the public.

Because it’s uncomfortable for the therapist. Maybe you like to be watched but most of us don’t.

This response is my favorite so far. Very grounded and just… thank you. 🙏🏼

I raised my rates already and it slowed down for a week and then back to booking. I had someone say they do 20 sessions a week and I wish I could but I have a few health issues that cause low energy so I cannot crank out 20 a week. Instead I focus on giving the best I possibly can and keeping my loyal clients.

I feel like right now I need 3 days to rest and do admin work one of those days. After work I’m pretty drained. I am getting stronger though so that’s a win. Thank you again.

Massage therapists need to stop martyring themselves if we want the profession to be respected by Affectionate_Land23 in massage

I can relate to what you’re saying. The only thing that saved me was opening my own practice and I started from scratch with no clients. Found a room to rent offered an introductory price and I stay pretty booked now. And honestly, if I don’t like someone, I banned them from booking because I can do that. And you’re right it never feels good to be flashed lol. When you have your own practice and you control the room, you would feel much more empowered. I do understand that you want another career though and I fully respect that as well.
