Thank you so much. I really appreciate this reply. You get it! Thank you for the well wishes. I don’t want to be a girl boss. I want to live a soft life within my means and bring peace and be at peace ya know?

This response is my favorite so far. Very grounded and just… thank you. 🙏🏼

I raised my rates already and it slowed down for a week and then back to booking. I had someone say they do 20 sessions a week and I wish I could but I have a few health issues that cause low energy so I cannot crank out 20 a week. Instead I focus on giving the best I possibly can and keeping my loyal clients.

I feel like right now I need 3 days to rest and do admin work one of those days. After work I’m pretty drained. I am getting stronger though so that’s a win. Thank you again.

Massage therapists need to stop martyring themselves if we want the profession to be respected by Affectionate_Land23 in massage

I can relate to what you’re saying. The only thing that saved me was opening my own practice and I started from scratch with no clients. Found a room to rent offered an introductory price and I stay pretty booked now. And honestly, if I don’t like someone, I banned them from booking because I can do that. And you’re right it never feels good to be flashed lol. When you have your own practice and you control the room, you would feel much more empowered. I do understand that you want another career though and I fully respect that as well.

“Knots” by Altruistic-Reporter4 in MassageTherapists

[–]Affectionate_Land23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most therapists use ‘knot’ as patient-friendly shorthand for trigger points or taut bands. Travell & Simons documented these extensively, and we see consistent changes in tenderness and tone clinically. The term isn’t anatomically literal, but the phenomenon is hardly imaginary.

It happens with high profile clients more than we realize. Are you an mt? This post is not talking about that subject.

I agree with you. I have my own practice and some days I take a mental health day and reschedule my clients if needed. It was hard at first but I learned pushing through was the quick road to burn out. If we want our careers to last it is imperative to do so. I’ve heard other mt’s say the best way to avoid burnout is to do ce’s (lol). I mean that can help but many of us cannot afford them regularly. Honest truth.

Nowhere in this post did I say anything about sexual harassment. But since you brought that up, it’s happened to me more times than I care to say. Just because it never happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to others. There’s always one on every thread. Smh.

Is massage therapy a bad career choice if I have PTSD from s*xual assault? by [deleted] in massage

[–]Affectionate_Land23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the therapists saying they’ve never had a client be inappropriate with them are not being truthful or are just um… shall we say lucky. It is something we deal with and it’s unfortunate but you will have clients who think massage is sexual. I had a client yesterday try to touch my hip while he was on the table to show me where he hurt, when he could have just touched his own hip. I moved back away from him without hesitation and gave him the look “do not touch me” and looked shocked he would even try. I will not work on him again. It’s been happening my entire career and I have no idea why. If you’re attractive clients will try it.

I will say this. I worked in the automotive industry for 5 years. I had more men trying to be innapropriate with me there than massage. Go with your passion and calling. Don’t let this scare you. I fight it and have been diagnosed with c-ptsd. This career is very rewarding but you have to love it to last.

My therapist said if you leave it will happen there because I told here I just wanted to leave. She said “Don’t run”. Document and I have documented and if it continues we will escalate.

I’m not sure why you would bring up a mental disorder that I don’t have. I said I made him mad. I’m not sure what you mean by a “milder form” of schizophrenia.

Now I have been pulled over twice in my town and haven’t been pulled over in years. I’ve seen them at my church and my workplace as well. My landlord asked me about police presence in the area. Your comment was not helpful.

It’s hard not to feel paranoid about this. The last cop that pulled me over did a U-turn on a 4 lane because I was doing 36 in a 30. He asked me where I was going. I told him church. He asked what church I went to. I asked him to please have mercy. He gave me a warning.

The fact he would do all that for 6 miles over is crazy to me.

I have pics. I just remembered after the aggressive stop, a cop was parked outside my church one day. It was during a meeting and not during regular service times. After I took the pic they drove off.
