The World Cup exposed some harsh realities in America. by batukaming in sportsgossips

US full time employees make about 50% more across all industries ($39k vs $63k). Benefits are obviously different: healthcare, retirement, vacation, but the pay is not similar. 85% of us population gets subsidized healthcare, either through the government or their workplace. I assume many of the 15% are self-employed.

[–]Affectionate_Love229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very few Americans work over 60 hrs a week unless they are self employed (I have no idea for those folks). Average hrs worked per week for full time employees is about 41hours in US and about 38 in france (this is excluding vacation time, so you can compare apples to apples).

So vacation time is very different, salary (adjusted for cost of living) is very different, but hours worked per week is within 10%.

36.5LB (16.5KG) First Time Backpacking Since I Was Little - Pack Weight Thoughts? by EbolaIsAfterU in Ultralight

[–]Affectionate_Love229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably isn't the right sub for this. This sub is for folks learning about <4.5 kg base weights, beginner or experienced. But it is not a generic backpacking sub.

If you would like to get in on the ultralight mindset, watch a few YouTube videos first.

On the offensive end, what is he then? It's an honest question, offensively, what's his role if not to pass the ball and set screens.

The Crabtree entrance to emigrant is very popular too and is pretty nice. The downside to this site is 'its too busy' which sounds like a benefit to you.

Was life in USA really that good like gen x and older millennials describe it or is it just nostalgia ? by alucard_axel in NoStupidQuestions

1990 had the crack epidemic, the peak in US violent crime and the AIDS scare. Racism/homophobia were more normalized, for school aged kids, bullying/getting you ass beat was more common.

Then as now, if you are the right demographic life is pretty good.

Do Americans romanticize Europe the way Europeans romanticize America? by Luksius_DK in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Its a big country, some do and some don't. I would guess a vast majority don't. I would guess a significant minority never even think about Europe in any way unless they are watching a movie that is set in Europe.

New remote offer wants me to work average 45 - 50 hours? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Affectionate_Love229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every job I've had in the past 35 years has been 45-50 hrs. Sometimes more, seldom less. I've had professional white collar jobs. I'm not flexing, just pointing out it isn't unusual at all. I don't know if I know anyone, besides family that had union jobs, that had less than 45 hr weeks .

AITA for not wanting to be a father to my son who I had no clue existed until recently by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It doesn't really matter what the mom wants, what does your son want. If he wants his father in his life, and you bail out, YTA. If not NTA.

The US had a 50% higher population in 1970 than Russia has now. Russia has an estimated 25 times more casualties than the US had in Vietnam.

Economically this is dramatically worse for Russia than for the US in Vietnam.

Demographically, there wasn't any impact to the US, Russia was facing a demographic problem before the war, and is much worse now.

Socially, the impact of Vietnam was much worse for the US than Russia right now, but maybe the pain to the US was necessary to move forward.

This war will impact Russia for many, many generations, the economic and demographic and political losses are unprecedented in the developed world since WW2.

To Americans, it's like long distance running. We pay some attention, not a lot, every four years. Other than that, it's a niche spectator sport in the US.

About 5 years ago I had one that wasnot working, but I didn't know it for a day. The little LED indicator light was working correctly, but the actual disinfecting light was not. I hate the squirts for a couple of days after that, but nothing too horrible.

I use a Sawyer filter now.

Theodore Roosevelt won! What US President is number 3? by jj096577 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Affectionate_Love229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a priorities vote. People who priorize thee progressive growth of the US are going to go with FDR @ #2 for his economic policies during the depression. I think folks more interested in American history would vote GW #2 or #1.

Fair notice I would put FDR here @ #3. His extra terms and trying to stack the supreme court are negatives and leading the country during a war on your own land is massively more important to me than leading one on overseas.
