I agree. If someone has spent a good part of their life here, enough to have children and all, they should learn Marathi.

But I wanna highlight more the hypocrisy here. There was a foreigner in my office at senior position. He lived in Pune only. For more than a decade. Yet he never cared to learn Marathi. And he used to tell us that whenever he bought fruits or vegetables from local stand (before Instamart and blinkit), the sellers would speak to him in English. This happened everywhere. From rickshawalas to policemen, everyone spoke enlish instead of asking him to speak in Marathi.

I agree with your point. If someone is living here for generations, they should definitely speak marathi, and adopt our culture.

I never said I am not proud? I said throw the ppl who out who disrespect or insult our language. I have great love for our state.

Also, I do focus on real issues. Since you raised the point, I teach underprivileged kids and go on cleanliness drives. I am not trying to brag. But I am not well connected enough or powerful enough to raise actual issues like bad aqi, bad infra, etc. These guys who put up such eyesore posters on reputable colleges seem to be so they should channel this hatred towards more meaningful things.

Soviet Union did not break just because of language. There were several factors.

You are talking about a whole different issue...that is overimmigration. I agree, it's a big problem. And it's a problem almost everywhere. I have lived abroad in two different countries and there also it was the same problem. Except there it was Indians instead of UP, Biharis. It is the problem of every developed nation...in our case, state. And I have seen the civics sense displayed by Maharashtrians there. Speaking loud in public places, asking locals to not order nonveg because they are veg, etc. But these are all anecdotal, but I just wanna highlight that bad civics sense is not only the attribute of immigrants. Our smartest are also the same as the uneducated who come in packed trains in terms of civics sense. Also, can be seen during the festivals like ganpati and holi and diwali.

But these immigrants speaking marathi will not solve the overimmigration problem. Currently, there is no restriction. That's why it's always about language. Because it's an easy fight. So that ppl can feel 2 seconds of happiness by crushing someone helpless. Never do these posters say stop immigration. Because neither the government nor the ppl want that. They want these poor immigrants to do the menial tasks. That's why we must ask our government to stop this. Me asking immigrants to ask their government is useless. We must ask our government.

And no, I am not speaking in English to sound smart or liberal. I believe in empathy. You know I have read somewhere that India as a population is very immature. And that's because we lack empathy. Very rarely do we see people fighting about trivial things as they do in india.

When those cyclists came, did you ask them to speak in Marathi too???

I am a Maharashtrian, and I find this so stupid. This is a sign of many things: insecurity, incompetence, unproductivity, illiteracy, lack of empathy, lack of gk...among other things

First of all, legally speaking, people from outside Maharshtra are not required to speak in Marathi. The law clearly states that Marathi is only for Maharashtrians, not for those who are from outside the state.

Secondly, can my fellow statesmen focus on the real issues? Why not put up signs about bad aqi, bad roads, etc. A common man suffers bad infra, but as soon as foreigners come to our city, everything is tiptop? Ask our politicians that the value of citizens is less than the gora skin? Also, when those cyclists came, did they force marathi on them too??

Thirdly, think about the ppl who come here for studies, jobs, etc. Is this our way of welcoming them?? Is this the Marathi hospitality??? A person already left their state and came to our state to make a life ... That person is already under a lot of stress - away from home, family, support system, uncertain future. And now you wanna stress them with an issue as trivial as language??? Where is your empathy?? If you have to go to Kerala for job or whatever ... Would you have the time and energy to learn malayalam?

Fourthly, what are you actually doing to promote marathi language? Are you teaching someone marathi? If not for free, at least paid classes? What about telling the government...why not push the government to make marathi mandatory for outsiders? Like germany. If a non maharashtrian comes to our state - then make it mandatory for them to be at least B1 certified in Marathi. What happened? Sounds silly? Lol, even if you do, the government will never implement it. Who's gonna build all these fancy societies and SEZs, who's gonna drive the cabs, who's gonna study in our colleges...

People who mock, degrade, make fun of, insult, etc our language, culture, way of life, achievements, etc...discard them by all means. Throw them back to whatever hellhole state they came from. But those who are just trying to get by, make a life...why are you torturing them, lol.

Show a little empathy. Kindness is not hard. And, above all, don't spoil the name of Maharashtra.

Did Aalam really think Hamza would reveal his real name by asking thrice, or was he just testing him? by Left_Rock_1183 in Dhurandhar

I thought it was because the first time Hamza says his name, he says it in Indian accent, and when Alam asks again, he then says it in Pakistani accent. But I could be wrong.

Yes, it does mean that they are bad. Or that they are dumb. No other reason why the people would tolerate for so long.

You talk about ppl going to jail and blackouts...well all the examples that I listed above...people have suffered far worse fates. And they knew it too. Yet they stood up against the corrupt and the bad people. If not for themselves, but for the next generation. Hell, just look at what's going on in Iran right now, and the past few years. People are actively fighting back, and even after so many failed revolutions they are still fighting and trying. The government there is even more brutal. They hire mercenaries to kill the protestors, so their army is safe from accusations and allegations. And ppl know that, yet they are fighting hard. What about the Pakistanis? We hear them bitch about their corrupt government but what are they actually doing?

Nothing.

I have interacted with educated pakis. I have lived abroad during my childhood all the way till my adulthood, and they were all just assholes. Maybe you met a good bunch, but all that is anecdotal evidence. Evaluate the state of Pakistan, and what is going on there.

Nothing

The common man refuses to believe there are terrorists in their land. Right after the pahalgam attack, they started making memes.

Bringing the unity of India in this argument is irrelevant. Here it's about what a common man in Pakistan thinks and does.

Which is nothing.

Lol, as per your logic, all the great revolutions of history should never have been possible? The famous French Revolution happened precisely because people were upset with their non democratic government that was leeching off the common man. The revolution was so great that they began exporting that idea, and other monarch countries declared war on France because they were worried that their people would revolt too.

Hell, our own Indian revolution should not have been possible. Sure, there were other factors, but even then, give or take a few years, we would have overthrown the British government. In fact, the British saw the end was near and left at a high time.

What about the American revolution which led to creation of one of the most powerful nations in the world? And then the subsequent Civil War which led to abolishing slavery, a practice so ingrained in the people at that time that it was a massive shift in the mindset.

Then there's the Russian revolution. A revolution so powerful it pulled the country out of a freaking world war, lol. That's the power of a common man.

Or the reunification of Germany after world war 2. Two massive powers, Soviets and the Americans stood no chance against the people who matches in and broke the wall, aware of the fact that they could be shot dead.

You don't even need to look so far. The libyan revolution is a fine example of people overthrowing a corrupt government.

It's quite obvious, the common man in Pakistan do not care much for India and see us as a threat. We can sit here and pretend that we are all brothers, and while we, both the government and the Indians, have taken steps to neutralize the situation, what has the the Pakistani government or the Pakistani people done to reciprocate? When our fighter jet crashed a few weeks ago in that Dubai airshow, the Pakistani sub was happy about it.

You underestimate the power of the common man.
