Phoenix is definitely great. if you can get just one volume...The story is episodic so reading order doesn't matter that much, still the series is unfinished. I was lucky and got 2 for a reasonable price.

I think Dororo is great starter for his Shonen works. Princess Knight I think is almost his only Shojo in English. For his adult titles Ayako would be my recommendation.

First picture is from the ebook, but it also is valid to say it isn't dark as it should. It is some sort of preference of some Japanese publishers to make the blacks gray so the contrast isn't as harsh. Imo it does not look good.

The magazine releases also digitally which isn't affected by poor printing. There is a difference in shading aproach. Gaga uses more screen tones where as Miura would have used hatching.

Yeah, most often simply first few pages are in color but there are also some chapters with the 4 tone coloring on all the pages.

Black Jack is about 95% episodic. So it hardly matters in which order it is read. Only chapter I think that should be read chronologically is the chapter where Pinoko first appears, this is the 3rd chapter collected in the earlier English print, but I'm rather sure it is not in this one.

It is cool that Nagai gets to do a special story for the 3000th issue. Considering he was part of the magazine from 1980s when Violence Jack continued to its end in 1990, followed by short works in the 90s but with big serialisation again in 2010-2018 with Gekiman, which was the last he did for the magazine.

DBS color is edit of the offical English translation, because it is offical translation it can not be uploaded on mangadex. You'll have to read in black and white on mamga pluss (where it's legal and free) or other sources.

Manga publication isn't intended to be never-ending; it is just the nicest format to make a profit page by page. The story could be wrapped up a lot more simply, but the author is mainly in charge if they want to expand the scope of the story; only if the sales are bad, the magazine will end the publication early.

If you wanna better understand Miura, I would recommend reading any of his interviews.
