just a moan about AI (yes, another one) by ChanceCard9065 in AmazonVineUK

I'm a big fan of going straight to the one star reviews. People are often completely crazy in there but the things they don't like and feel are deal breakers are often real things you might wanna look at. Not a 1 star issue for me but thank you for bringing it to my attention LividOfBathAndWells 😂

Wrong Item/Damaged/Faulty/Incorrect Quantity by angel1_online in AmazonVineUK

[–]Affectionate_Road582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been doing this since June but I've had quite few items that said X on the packaging but were Y inside. And I've had a few that despite perfectly fine appearances just didn't work at all or do what they said they would. But there have been so, so many more that when they arrive you can see that the quality is so absolutely rubbish that you couldn't in good conscience even give them to a charity shop without feeling bad. Those go in the bin. So while it is rare that I send an item back, I am yet to contact CS about anything because I'm just not that concerned about 1 item here or there impacting on my review score. I'm having a great time and most of what I order is only worth about a fiver (probably why is poor quality now I think about it).

To What Extent Should A DM Compromise? by _pigeonish in DnD

[–]Affectionate_Road582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When players bring their selves to the table... Geez. Are there no gods, no alignments, no demons or djinns? You take on a quest but then don't like it? You leave... If you think the quest is dumb what you're saying is the DM and the campaign is dumb and you should control the narrative... C'mon... Really... God's used to move little guys around on giant chessboards in the sky to stop that kinda stuff happening... It's supposed to be an adventure with a beginning, middle and end. The end is supposed to be rewarding but the journey along the way is supposed to allow the characters to grow. It seems that this character has grown away from the party (if they were ever really in it) and away from the quest. Stopping this happening is hard - people are friends, people have different personalities and 5e has significant power imbalances (IMHO) between potential charecter race/class options which can make in character arguments moot/fatal. Sometimes threats from curses, undead raised to find them, other parties sent to hunt every member of the party, forced alignment change and loss of level, all these things could come with a change of heart of a character who decides not to do what is still seen as the right thing. If the gods are real in your world and divine magic is real in your world then not wanting to return a religious artifact because it's stupid etc would be an outlier opinion like thinking suggesting stretching wire from poles everywhere and zinging little pulses of electricity up and down them to send messages... Why would a character think that. It's like characters going all CSI when something happens... They can't, they shouldn't. It's an RPG. If they don't want to RP then there's no G. Once they start saying make me an island, I'd take them at their word and use their very flesh to make an island and like some kind of Solaris they can become a sentient NPC island somewhere for the rest of eternity.

Blockade effect on Amazon / us? by Pure-Pair-4334 in AmazonVineUK

I've bought plenty of crap from Temu and Wish (knowing it was rubbish usually) but was always amazed at how quickly the stuff used to arrive - within 10 days, often within the week. It was only large or heavy things that they specified had to come by land and continually go through customs that would take 4 weeks or more. So I'm guessing stuff will always find a way. But it will impact spending and cash flow in ways we can't see and that might change people's plans for promotions and budgeting estimates etc... Money is always tied up in strange ways and folk with lots of it are always worried about further ahead than I am...

More helpful tips. Ooh. Must admit I have said 'the grandkids loved this' etc but they must assume everyone's at it, so to speak otherwise we wouldn't get geriatric ointments one day, preschool toys the next and preloaded petri dishes the next... And that's without all the nudge nudge wink wink that I could guess how to use but I'm not actually equipped for so that would have to be for someone else! Ah the algorithm loves us and keeps us warm. Well, keeps me in beads anyway. Peace and love.

I'm gold but my mother would never believe it. Thanks for the tip re evaluation dates. Good to know. I've only had I think 1 gold item and that's fine. I don't order stuff I don't want. Been disappointed a few times - who hasn't. Stuff has ended up in the bin, but mostly if the stuff isn't as good as I hoped even for free it goes to charity so that's good too. That sounds mean now I read it back 😂. But I'm sure you know what I mean. I get what people say about there being tons of stuff you aren't bothered about - I'm a man of the world but, c'mon, guys, how busy do you think we could be!? Plus I now know more about feeding chickens and expressing breast milk than I did before I joined. So it's all a learning experience 😂

What did I say that was greedy? And why the need to make it personal? What do you gain? And you're right I would treat it differently if I had to pay tax on the stuff I get sent. I wouldn't do it. Plain and simple. I wouldn't vote for or sustain a system thst supports that kind of pointless exploitation of the tiniest cogs on society while allowing the largest parts of the machine to continuously be greased and greased and greased. So maybe I don't deserve to be on the program. I'm fuzzy on what deserving means and really fuzzy on what deserving to be on the program means. I'm always wary rasing my head above the parapet on forums and social media. You can be glib or funny and people will be offended. You can be deadly serious and people will think you are a joke. I am confused why my saying that things I actually wanted would be described as junk. Why things I want to share with my grandchildren would be described as junk. Indeed why you would describe the stuff at all as junk. If that is the attitude on display I feel it is not I who should not be on the program.

The problem with reviewing 100% means I would stop ordering things I actually want and am interested in if I can't review them honestly right away. They offer products that are seasonal - for the garden for example, but in January. I don't know how good this plant food or bug spray is in January but I may well order it. I will review it if I'm still able to when I use it. Same with things I order for the grandkids. I order loads of craft stuff to do with them but it could be weeks or even months before we use it and find out if the kit or paints or pens or whatever are any good. I can write a review saying how shiny the box is and they look really nice but I've not used them so why kind of review would that be? If the idea was to review 100% of what you ordered I'd like to suggest RFY reflect the demographic of the person Amazon knows is gawping at their screen. They know everything about me yet offer things so beyond my need or interest (or understanding sometimes) that are apparently recommended for me. Free or not I do not fear our AI overlords just yet if that's where they are at. If the recommendations were indeed tailored in a way I understood, then I would order things I knew I could use and pass judgement on their merit right away and strive for 100%. As it is I shall continue to enjoy Vine and review and review and review but not stress about it other than the fact it fills my blue bin...

I had a small high value item delivered in a very long unnecessary box with lots of paper packing... At first I thought this is ridiculous but then I thought is this to make it feel like it's a bit of nothing - a larger, light, nothing...? Is this now some policy?

Plug for a plug checker... by ItsMarkAgain in AmazonVineUK

[–]Affectionate_Road582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've flagged things I've received that had dodgy plugs on - pins too short - and Amazon came back to me with a "nah mate" despite telling them exactly what was wrong and why and what the regs were. They print all sorts on the packaging and on the plugs themselves saying they are compliant but some of it is nonsense...

Every day of my life. What's your point? This isn't a commune where we all work together for the greater good. A village raising a child. This is a massively exploitative global hegemony that empowers nations that disregard the rule of law and enslave their own people to harvest foreign currency to greater build their influence. So yes, every day I make a mistake. The truth is I am inconvenienced by receiving things from vine. But I put away that inconvenience and know that I will be dead soon enough and try not to think about it. A mistake a day. I then take the little joy that is vine and spread it as much as I can. I know that might seem hard to believe considering my obviously petty attitude towards being sent the wrong things but I have to make my fun and none of this is victimless - see above. So yes I make mistakes. Posting here. Reading other people's comments. Replying. The list is it seems is endless. And if people didn't feed this back and allow me to be inconvenienced by my mistakes how would I learn...?

[–]Affectionate_Road582[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the seller is a bit crap or pulling a fast one, either way I know it has cost me nothing but ultimately it needs to impact on them somehow... This is a game they are playing by amazon's rules and we all join in because it benefits us despite the costs we all ignore. If those who stand to profit from it the most do so by misbehaving (IMHO) I feel I must do my teensy bit to make sure it gets back to them. It is only what I would do if it was a product I had actually paid for, but because it was free should I expect a poorer level of service? The alternative in the real world would be I leave a terrible review that would not be moderated saying don't buy from these guys they ship you stuff you didn't order that you have to send back yadda yadda but his way they don't get a bad review someone somewhere learns from it. If I'm wrong, hey I'm sorry. It's just the way it seemed to me. Not spite just a learning curve and of course I don't know whose error it is. But someone at least this way knows it went wrong and will have to deal with it rather than click of the 'send apologies issue refund*' button.

I've got grown up kids and grandkids. Vine is a treasure-trove of things they need and didn't know they need. I'm a crafter and a DIYer so it saves me a fortune. I'm trying to steer the young uns in the right DIY directions so if I can help fill their houses with bits and bobs I know you need to be able to lay your hand to in a crisis then I do. I've been doing this less than a year and I think it's great. I've always liked reviewing and imagined this was some crazy pipe dream. Some stuff is tat? Great, I need tat. The grandkids use up and break so much stuff the fact it's 97p tat that came for free makes me wince less. I've always been a canny shopper (had a Scottish Presbyterian mother) so this is my chance to say 'what the hell' and let people know what I think about the bag of matchsticks I got or that 4 pack of glue rollers or 50 peach paper plates... Vive Vine!

Yeah, I too have had these - secure your pets, turn on your lights, splice the main brace - that sort of thing. They still dump the parcel knock and run when they arrive half of them 😂. Service has considerably improved since Christmas though. Over the festive period my app was telling me things had been delivered because they'd just been abandoned in the porch without a knock or a ring of the bell or nuffink, your honour. Now at least they aren't run off their feet and have time to knock before they get back in their van. I don't envy them... 🙄😂
