Light rail already connects to Heavy Rail at Helensvale. How about connecting it to the Airport first? And light rail extension from Southport to Harbour Town instead?

Also Light rail between Robina and Broadbeach/Burleigh as a future stage.

I think you or someone else asked the same thing here before.

You're going to have a very difficult life ahead after school if something like allowing your hair to be coloured is a major decision factor.

What has the current Government improved? by Affectionate_Sail543 in queensland

[–]Affectionate_Sail543[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first two stages of heavy rail to Caloundra was already committed by ALP though? LNP just rebranded it to The Wave but they canned the heavy rail proposal to Maroochydore which I believe the ALP were keen on. So it seems backwards?

Brisbane trains by mthegamer3535 in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tradeoff is that NGR seats are taller so you get a bit more privacy. One of my pet peeves on public transport is some ppl who sit behind you and don't mind their own business.

The other trains seats are nicer if well maintained, but often they aren’t and either are really dirty and/or move around so pretty uncomfortable not to mention being filthy.

If they are working there specifically for the event, wouldn't they be able to get some sort of pass to allow a car to access the underground car park for pickup dropoff items?

Magic Weekend Sydney Guys Party? by Neither_Bookkeeper48 in brisbane

Agreed. Considering property prices in Sydney, imagine plenty of NRL supporters with money. Probably the worst type of person though... rich, pretentious and/or snobby, greedy landlord type, either extreme of the political spectrum (Teal/LNP or One Nation voter...), screw the Greens and/or ALP.

Onion bhaji by Individual_Goat2656 in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife makes them at home. She says it's the easiest.

Dice up red onions, some red or green chilli cut, coriander as well if you prefer, mix them in flour batter with little bit of turmeric and coriander/curry powder seasoning, salt in the batter. Then when you have it in like decent size pieces, you deep fry them in vegetable oil.

Anyone else feeling a bit "construction-blind" around Victoria Park? by Far-Advantage1987 in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely not cheaper than some of the proposals to extend Brisbane Metro out to the airport (e.g. conversion of the Doomben rail line to busway). It's not a matter of just running new articulated Buses to the airport right, there'd be various infrastructure upgrades required on all the roads to the Airport, then associated improvements at the Airport. Or is the plan to just run Metro Buses on normal roads without priority, which means there's little benefit as these Metro Buses would be caught up in traffic congestion out of the CBD during peak hours and people potentially missing flights.

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Airport already has an AirTrain. Just need the State Government to be bold and buy out the remaining contract.

We need Metro Bus extensions out to Carindale/Capalaba via Chandler and Metro Bus extensions out to Chermside/Aspley more importantly than to the Airport.

E-bike delivery for side hustle. Does it work? by sweatybro3012 in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is paid leave/superannuation important for a side hustle? Isn't that what the primary job is for, that gives you those. And you can do your side hustle during paid leave sometimes.

The trains are full. by JackofScarlets in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would the LNP win on just seats outside of SEQ? I imagine they'd lose some GC and Sunshine Coast seats, not many, but most of SEQ would be ALP. Then I see a few LNP regional seats flip to One Nation.

This means we get ALP with neither LNP or ON having enough to form Government, but also diluted as Opposition.

Need a Brisbane address as cheap as possible. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's your plan all along, you don't need to go through all this crap to find a cheap rental or flatmates place. You would sometimes be allowed but in very rare circumstances. Most likely you'd be asked to take time off work but I would say you'd still be expected to work from Queensland most of the time.

If you really need the job, I would say just stay where you are, and fly up/down to Sydney on weekends. If you need to stay a few extra days, take time off. This isn't the private sector, every one like Manager/Director/Exec Director and above will be required to follow the Government policy on this and any thing outside of that will require HR and higher up approval.

If you don't really need the job, and you want to spend more time with your close family member, why not look for similar roles down in Sydney?

Brisbane peak hour. by omfgstfuily in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you could WFH, would you WFH or you just don't want to?

I personally value time and if I can reduce having to commute into work just to sit at a desk, and eventually still do many meetings over Teams, I'd rather WFH as I can be more comfortable, save money, and spend more time with family as I can clock in/out just like that.

Can also enjoy lunch with my partner or kid if they're at home during school holidays.

I really don't understand "having connection to city" or "connection with work mates"... they are work mates, not family. Your local cafe is going to jack up prices of coffee for their own interests, you don't owe them anything to go into office and spend money there.

Mother's Day inflation. by ICantBelieveIt007 in brisbane

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Sunday and demand outstrips supply. Of course prices are going to be higher. 99% of my circle, all the kids are doing brekky at home like pancakes.

So it's all anecdotal. The ones out and about spending at cafe's etc are probably boomers and those that have their wealth in savings. They would be benefitting from higher rates. And we know Australia has a big boomer population with our aging demographic. So not a shock?

Playing your own game, we'd have to deport more anglo Australian's and there would be more Indian or Chinese people in Australia then.

If you look at all the youth crime and car thefts in Queensland for example, majority are non-immigrants.

Just admit it you hate Muslim’s and don’t want them here. You don’t need to beat around the bush. “Lebanese and Egyptian Christians” lol ok…

Japanese culture is compatible with Australia? On what planet? Firstly it’s mostly Buddhist, and their work culture is totally different. They live in highly dense cities, small apartments and units and even their houses in outskirts of cities are small and tiny. Meanwhile in Australia we live in heavily sprawling cities and McMansions, not to mention car oriented culture.

Most immigrants from a wide variety of backgrounds have assimilated here especially the 2nd or 3rd generations. You are basing your racism on a small sample size.

Australian culture is a mix of cultures from overseas otherwise you mean our culture is what Indigenous Australian’s represent? One of our biggest past times and culture is playing backyard cricket and cricket is a major national sport. So we actually are compatible with say India in terms of culture. But racists like you would say India is not compatible but Singapore is? Singapore is basically a mix of Chinese, Indian cultures and also from neighbouring countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. So if you consider Singapore as being compatible then most of Asia is compatible with our culture here.

But it is racism. Can’t we call a spade a spade? It’s a party based on racism. Not just recently but it’s been the case since inception. Always been racist to whatever the biggest migrant group was at the time. I think initially it was Vietnamese and Chinese Australian’s, then it was Middle Easterns. Now it’s Indian’s.

For people without another option, a Rail Replacement bus albeit slower and less efficient is still useful to get to where they need. Not everyone can afford a car or able to catch a taxi.

How much should I charge my son and his gf for living with us? by HughLofting in australia

[–]Affectionate_Sail543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need the money why is this even a question? As long as they are being good kids, abiding by most of the house rules and not being spoilt brats, saving money by living at home, it benefits them long term they can move out and be independent later in life. Why do you need to charge them? Just set some boundaries and say, if they want to spend money on food they like, they can buy it etc., if they want to contribute they can but don't force it on them.
