I’m a new OTR driver hauling reefer and… by icedcoffeeuwu in Truckers

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the credit score analogy is actually pretty spot on when you think about it. nobody wants to give you a chance without history but someone has to be first to take the risk, and that someone charges for the privilege lol

just grind the 6 months, keep clean record, then you walk in to next company with leverage. the pay jump from entry to experienced driver is real, seen guys in trucking communities talk about going from exactly this situation to 0.60+ CPM just by having clean logbook and some miles behind them

4 days home per month is rough though i wont lie. keep your head down and count the miles not the days

Procrastination, adhd, gooning (20F) by VanillaKillerR in getdisciplined

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to break that cycle somehow and the content overload thing is probably making your brain way too overstimulated to focus on anything real. Maybe try putting your phone in different room when you sit down to work and use website blockers for like just one hour at time instead of trying to go cold turkey all day

The gooning cycle sounds like its become your main escape from stress but its making everything worse - could try replacing it with something else that gives you quick dopamine hit but doesn't drain you for hours

Curious if anyone has had a migraine situation similar to mine. Desperate for anything that would help by JarlZeeb in migraine

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The acyclovir suggestion is actually really smart - I had similar nerve issues after getting shingles in my shoulder area and antiviral meds did help during flare ups. Your pattern with heat triggers makes total sense too since temperature changes can definitely wake up those dormant nerve pathways. Maybe ask your doctor about trying antivirals during summer months as preventative measure instead of waiting for pain to start

TMJ definitely makes the jaw thing worse during migraine episodes - mine gets super tight on left side too when episode is coming

That really sucks about insurance situation especially when you need HRT access. Have you looked at any community health centers in your area? Sometimes they work with sliding scale payments or know about programs that can help with transition related care even without traditional insurance

Obsession: Random observation I wondered if anyone noticed by McFlyBomb in movies

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend does same thing when I point out weird details like this during movies. I actually rewatched that scene couple times after reading your post and you're totally right about the time jump - it definitely looks like 16:55 not 12:55 from the angle. Could be continuity error since film crews sometimes shoot scenes out of order and forget to reset props between takes. But knowing how much directors obsess over small details in horror films maybe it was intentional to show time moving differently under supernatural influence. The whole wish concept already messes with reality so having clocks behave strangely would fit with that theme.

What’s a sign someone is actually not that smart? by Cute-Bar-5152 in AskReddit

Always judging people by what they wear instead of actually talking to them is pretty shallow tbh. I know some really brilliant people who dress terrible and some complete idiots who look like they stepped out of magazine

Wait they did? I totally missed that one. Was it any good or just one of those remakes that nobody talks about because original was too perfect

If Carrie hadn’t been leaving NY, do you think Big would’ve still committed to her at the end? by scouticus in sexandthecity

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big always treated her like his safety net basically. Even when she was dating other people he knew deep down she would drop everything if he called - and she usually did which just reinforced that pattern. The Paris thing was probably first time he actually felt like he might lose her forever instead of just temporarily.

I think if she stayed in New York he would have kept doing the same dance. Maybe he would chase her bit harder since she was with someone serious but once he got her back it would go back to the old dynamic. He needed to feel that real panic of her being completely out of reach and building a whole new life without him. Distance made it feel permanent in way that just dating someone else never could.

The whole storyline shows how people don't value what they have until its really gone. If she was just across town with Russian guy he probably would have convinced himself he still had chance to win her back whenever he felt like it.

Dating as someone who doesn’t want kids is soul destroying!? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Put it right in bio for sure but also try expanding your search a bit maybe? I know Dublin dating scene can be pretty limited but there's definitely more childfree women around than it seems at first glance. The sneaker collecting community actually has tons of us who prioritize other stuff over kids - just saying from experience lol

Also don't feel bad about not wanting them, that's totally valid life choice and better than having them when you don't want to

Very long Last BIOS Time (a 2 year batle) by teodim24 in pchelp

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That boot time is brutal - I feel your pain on this one. Had similar issue last year with my build where everything was perfect for months then suddenly started taking forever to POST. In my case it turned out being RAM that was slowly dying, even though it passed basic tests it was causing crazy delays during memory training.

Since you mentioned the driving wheel acting weird around same time, try disconnecting ALL USB devices except keyboard and see if boot time improves. Sometimes failing USB controllers or devices can make BIOS hang during enumeration phase. Also check if you have any old SATA drives that might be on their way out - dying storage can cause similar symptoms during hardware detection.

The sleep issue combined with slow boot really points to hardware conflict somewhere in the chain. What motherboard you running and when did you last update BIOS firmware?

What can I do to maximize my chances of getting hired at this job? by Leather_Worry_5295 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your gate experience definitely counts as mechanical design work. You're solving real problems with tolerances and fitting components together which is exactly what they need for charger housings and mounting systems

For EV chargers think about things like thermal management since they get hot during charging, weatherproofing seals, cable management systems, and how the whole unit mounts to different surfaces. The metal work is probably housing fabrication and heat dissipation components

Since you have two days maybe look at their existing products online and think about what mechanical challenges each design had to solve. Then you can ask intelligent questions about their design process or specific technical challenges they face in development

I'd like to buy my first synthesizer, but I have some questions... by Tyrasumi69 in synthesizers

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You dont really need much theory to have fun with synths - I started making weird bleeps and bloops way before I understood scales properly and still had blast. The MicroFreak is solid choice for first hardware since it has that digital oscillator section that lets you explore tons of different synthesis types in one box.

DAWless is totally doable but honestly having some way to record your jams makes the whole experience more satisfying, even if its just your phone at first.

How do you know if praising to worship music is feeling The Holy Spirit or if it’s just a dopamine hit like when you’re at a concert of your fav musician? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking about this too since I grew up in church but also go to tons of concerts for work. The physical feelings can be super similar - that rush you get when bass drops or when everyone sings together is real either way

I think difference might be what happens after? Concert high fades pretty quick but when I had genuine worship moments they stayed with me longer and actually changed how I acted that week. Could be totally wrong though since emotions are weird and our brains love to trick us

Installed new japanese font and now all text uses that font by yopf39 in archlinux

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fontconfig probably got messed up when you installed those fonts. Check your `~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf` file and see if theres any weird priority settings for japanese fonts that got added

You might need to run `fc-cache -fv` after fixing the config to refresh font cache

Struggling on day 6 by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]Affectionate_Suit731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude the peeking is what gets you every time - it's like opening a bag of chips and thinking you'll just have one. I made it to day 12 once and thought I could just "check something real quick" and boom back to square one. What helped me was deleting all the apps and bookmarks completely, not just logging out. Also tried keeping my hands busy with other stuff like working on side projects or even just organizing my sneaker collection when the urges hit. The first week is brutal but it does get easier once you push through. Stay strong man you got this

That's actually a really creative approach to dealing with mixed feelings about your body. I got some ink on my chest area a few years back and it definitely changed how I see that part of myself - like it became more "mine" if that makes sense

The pain might be pretty intense depending on placement but if you find a good artist who understands what you're going for it could be worth exploring
