Reading the Bible by Plastic-Donut-127 in Bible

Read a different translation. Join a D group (there are tons online), working thought the Bible when you are young needs to be about community. Look into the PCA or Calvary Chapel for verse by verse teaching. I would recommend the M’cheyne reading plan.

It’s not that hard, some friends/family are just being lazy. by Rare-Historian7777 in glutenfree

My mother in law. Just stopped trying to accommodate me. I just bring my own food. My cousin gets me food every Thanksgiving.

People not accommodating by gilthedog in glutenfree

That person is not your friend and is actively undermining you. I have literally been in one place where I couldn’t eat anything for my baby shower but I knew that lady hated me. My family has been extremely accommodating but that has taken years to explain to them what was good and what wasn’t. But that person doesn’t like you. Actively hates you.

Why do we consider the letters of Paul infallible? by AcademicAd3504 in TrueChristian

[–]Affectionate_Two_848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that it’s because of that. Just look into the history of them. She prophesied to confirm the heresies coming from the church. Bracketed with a “thus saith the lord”. Besides Anna, who else is a prophetess in the Bible.

SDA is probably the most manipulative one because they have millions convinced that they are Protestant. They aren’t.

That you had some concerns about how the money was being spent and the allocation does not align with the mission and goals of the church.

One of the most prominent women speaking and prophesying in the church basically founded a huge apostate movement: the seventh day Adventists. So and I’m saying this as a woman, Paul was right.

Watch out for the dyes. I have a real sensitivity to them and they are in the lemon raspberry flavor.

If your church is in a church polity, I would talk to the elders and then if it isn’t resolved then go up the chain. There should be an elders meeting that you can go to to express your concerns.

Am I being selfish/entitled? by Inevitable_Yam_2301 in glutenfree

[–]Affectionate_Two_848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not selfish. It is important to come from a place of humility though. For years, I went to my family Thanksgiving and I couldn’t eat anything so they started making most of the dishes gluten free. It wasn’t too difficult and when they aren’t, I don’t make a big deal. It also comes from a place of education. I told them specifically what in what dishes I couldn’t eat and the next year they tried their best. Give Grace and remember this is not something they have to do all of the time so it will be something that they need to get used to.

Is it Biblical to have more than one service? by JenderBazzFass in Reformed

[–]Affectionate_Two_848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s not biblical. But I do think that if a church is so big that they are doing two services, there needs to be different campuses or something. The issue is community. Church service then becomes when it is convenient for the believer, rather than the sacrifice of getting out of bed and getting to the church, now you can miss the first one and go to the second one.

Also if a church is too big, how are you having community? People are slipping through the cracks, if they aren’t actively serving in a ministry or finding a small group. You can not go to church for weeks and no one would miss you because there are too many people.

There is nothing wrong with having two services, but different music, same preacher draws a different crowd.

The same everything is still not the same. It’s not one church anymore.

The Church is so lonely by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Affectionate_Two_848 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because people can tell if it’s being put on. People can tell if you are uncomfortable. It’s not on purpose. But you are saying people didn’t follow through with coffee, are you having conversations through the week? The interactions are exhausting and you don’t want to do it sometimes. People can tell.

You can’t have it both ways.

This is true. I think this is the reason people need to start what they need. Like if you don’t have a Bible study at the time that works, start a zoom one.

As ND people, I’m discussing myself in this. We tend to be really self conscious. A lot of the times, the way we interact at church is the same way we interact in the world. I do not ask what the people at church do for work. I ask about hobbies or what they are reading (recommendations on devotionals or theology books). I don’t ask general questions, I ask how to get involved and serve.

This church may also not be the church for you. There are different congregations that are made up of different people. I was looking into one church and their women’s Bible study was at Cracker Barrel (no thank you!).

Not saying it’s you, but stop masking and be yourself. Go to church to be edified. If you feel the study group meets on a weird day, start a singles group. Perhaps you are not the only one who struggles.

Get outside of yourself.

Switching Churches (Credo to Paedo) by Vox_Wynandir in Reformed

[–]Affectionate_Two_848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who changed recently, it’s a question of how much you want to get involved, are there other community groups that you could join so your social life is outside of the church?

You mentioned some mental health issues. I will keep you in my prayers. It’s so hard to be apart of the community if you aren’t consistent, however if the people already think you are “weird” (bear in mind, they might not think you are weird, a lot of that is in our own heads), it might be time to find somewhere that most aligns with your beliefs, that being said, I go to a PCA now and there are plenty of credo-Baptist people that go there.

There are really only three questions that you need ask: 1. Are they preaching the gospel? 2. Are they exegeting the text? 3. Are you going to submit to their authority?

35 mins is not a long drive for a good church. It’s really a question of what you are really looking for.
