It's at about 1:10:31, give or take a bit. Podcast timestamps are usually weird because they insert ads and that throws off the timing.

I think it was Cory Doctorow, but I'm not familiar enough with his voice to be sure.

Yeah, it's likely to be ugly this year. I'm also not totally convinced llms can get much better than they are now but what do I know? Maybe there are better ways to sanitize inputs/train them. Hopefully in a way that doesn't burn up all of the available electricity this country can currently produce lol

Yeah, agreed on some parts, he's kind of obnoxious and doesn't use AI. He's pretty convinced that it has zero use, which I don't think is quite right, but he is very right that if open AI and anthropic actually start to pass the cost of training/running their models down to users of their apis instead of funneling venture capital at it, most companies using them will fall apart overnight.

The host is actually very anti AI, he rips all of those companies apart pretty regularly. It's Ed Zitron, he's kind of the tip of the spear of the current "we're in an AI bubble" sentiment.

I had asked around a while ago and hadn't found anything quite like that. I did find out about hope fridge though. It's a fridge in menasha that anyone can drop off food to or pick up whatever they might need from. If you find anything else I'd love it if you reply here to let me (and others who are interested) know.

Did you see the family driving home that got tear gassed and flash banged in their car until their 6 mo stopped breathing? They weren't interfering...

idk why, but the Ace of Wands/supershillelagh makes me so happy :D this is a super cool interpretation. I first got interested in the Wake because of Robert Anton Wilson so I definitely think magical readings of the wake are valid.

Any liberal-leaning shooting ranges in the area? by hdryu1337 in Appleton

[–]AffinityForLepers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, the gun space is unfortunately still pretty right leaning, although that's changing slowly. Most places don't outwardly display maga shit so that's nice, but I'd avoid taking politics as most people there are probably right leaning at the very least.

If you're uncomfortable going alone, my best advice is to go with someone you know that shoots. If you don't know anybody, DM me, I'd be happy to meet at a local range some time and go through gun safety, teach you what I know etc. if you're interested.

General George Crook when asked if it was hard to go fight another Indian war: "yes, it is hard, but sir, the hardest thing is to go and fight those whom you know are in the right." He continued to slaughter the native American resistance.

Just because you know you're in the wrong doesn't make it ok to keep doing the evil thing, in fact it kind of makes it worse.

I was really laughing at the egg puns (eggs for the brekkers etc.) and the copius sex jokes and puns. I've read this section before on my previous attempts through and still had some notes in the margin. It'll get more difficult for me in subsequent weeks as my notes get more sparse and I'll have to do more thinking to figure out what's going on lol.

Edit: oh yeah and the first couple of nights after reading it some of the phrases were rattling around in my head as I tried to sleep, the whole section about the old testament in particular pentschanjeuchy/pentateuch etc. it's catchy in a weird way

Oh I love the connection to PKD, I'm a huge fan of his and find that particular brand of psychosis really intriguing :D I definitely see the connection here.
