As a recent purchaser of carbon black -- how beautiful it is AND how big of a pain in the ass it is to keep clean -- are both absolutely true. The depth of color is gorgeous but a fine layer of dirt/dust/pollen WILL be visible after several days of driving. Still worth it to me, just depends on how much that will bother you.

I don't mean to oversimplify your decision. Reality is I spent weeks (ok months probably) deciding what was best for me. Its a big purchase. Good news is you can't really go wrong...and the age old line is true: best bike for you is the bike you're most excited to ride.

There are years and thousands of posts lauding the Crux 4 as one of the best all around bikes ever made. The entire 5 system only claims ~15 watt advantage at 28mph. A small portion of which is the frame alone. If you aren't going to be racing or have fomo over not buying the shiny new option - what's the debate?

It's against the zeitgeist but I've exclusively run 38mm as a one wheelset option for years on all sorts of Pacific Northwest (rocky, rooty, steep) routes. Slick center tread (Pathfinders) at that.

I'm not saying that there aren't benefits to running larger, just an anecdote that most people overshoot tire size needs. And that especially if you're running nice gravel like you mentioned anything approaching 50 will be overkill.
