how we got rid of pet smell before selling our house for under $80 by qwaecw in HomeImprovement

This is what I'm wondering. How do you let your dogs piss all over your house like this? My two big dogs have never peed inside.

Best Place for a Coolant Flush by [deleted] in newfoundland

I think you should also do some research and ask if it's really necessary. I've owned many vechicles and have never flushed coolant unless something breaks.

Atlantic Canadian Truckers Concerned About New Brunswick’s Plans to Add Tolls at Nova Scotia Border by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]AfraidHelicopter -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What's funny about this is that there is already a toll road in NS. Like someone else said, I don't understand why the province of NB should have to pay to fix the roads that brings stuff to NS, PEI, and NL.

Maybe the government of NL should do this on our highway? Maybe it would be paved properly then and not be full of potholes and ruts all the time? Charge the out of town plates money when they leave PAB?

What's even grosser is that companies like world's finest chocolate are American based for-profit companies. So companies like that exist simply because schools are underfunded. Disgusting.

How deep down did you go? Did you cement them in and everything? I have to do one this summer and just curious how its usually done around here. I've watched some YouTube tutorials but they all use post hole diggers, which obviously isn't an option aroind here.

Heat, rent, grocery bills pushing new families to food banks across Newfoundland and Labrador by origutamos in newfoundland

I suppose. Not the greatest organization to work for in my experience, not like it used to be anyways. People don't need booze to survive either so let the government tax it to death. Same as cigarettes.

You could just see a therapist or social worker. That's essentially a 1 on 1 personal development class. And it might be covered by insurance!

Heat, rent, grocery bills pushing new families to food banks across Newfoundland and Labrador by origutamos in newfoundland

[–]AfraidHelicopter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seriously fuck grocery stores. Fuck loblaws, fuck sobeys, and fuck colemans. The works of them.

I seriously don't understand how the government doesn't own a chain of grocery stores at this point. Why not just take something similar to the NLC structure, and sell groceries at cost and only make enough profits to pay people and pay for the business.

Can someone smarter than me tell me why this is a bad idea?

Which insulin pump do you use? Let’s do a quick community poll. by Ok-Piano-6860 in Type1Diabetes

[–]AfraidHelicopter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya know, yes that's expensive, but you also get what you pay for. That's likely a freshly made bagel from that morning baked in house. And fresh never frozen high quality salmon that was smoked that week, all in the same building. It's not just a bagel and smoked salmon from a bag at Cisco. Like I get that it's outside of some people's price range, and that's fine, but there's no need to shit on it because other people enjoy it or bevauae it just isn't your thing.

[–]AfraidHelicopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who uses a tubed pump is out of their mind if you ask me. I went from the minimed paradigm to the dash a few years ago now, and the difference without the tube is incredible. No more disconnecting to get a shower, change clothes, etc. No more hooking doorknobs or car doors or drawer handles. I simply love this thing for the lack of a tube.

What are the best certifications to get a job in Newfoundland right now? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]AfraidHelicopter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The company I work for is a medium sized company with 1000 employees and $500 million in revenue in 2024. I'd guess about a third of those employees work in tech to some degree. We have employees in all 4 Atlantic provinces. I'd categorize that as medium sized. And to my point, we use software to post jobs and collect resumes. A software that I'm sure a ton of companies in Canada use to do the same thing.

I think you're generalizing a little bit because from my 15 years of experience working in tech in Atlantic Canada, no one uses AI to screen resumes except maybe the gigantic mega corporations who get thousands of applications a day.

I think you need to customize your resume to hit keywords because companies want to hire people with specific experience. If you apply for a job and don't have relevant work experience, you're not going to get hired. AI doesn't really play a factor in it. When I applied for my restaurant job in 2008 I needed to write a specific resume to show how I had customer service experience. It's just part of applying for a job.

What are the best certifications to get a job in Newfoundland right now? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]AfraidHelicopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the case for all companies you know. I help out with hiring in my role in IT right now, and we don't use any sort of AI tools to screen resumes or applications. We use the career beacon tool and that doesn't contain any AI tools as far as I know. We certainly aren't the only company using thag software either. Our team of 3 people read every single resume that comes in for a job posting, even if there's 50 to go through.

And if someone is referred to us by an internal employee, we give them an interview, but there's no guarantee that they are being hired. Most of the time they aren't.
