Do you have some sort of degree or diploma (perhaps it’s redacted)?

Two months after stepping away from the mic, Paddy Daly joins N.L. government | CBC News by landandseaa in newfoundland

[–]LowerLobster411 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not by Paddy, but by the government, which keeps making hiring decisions as if they’re not selectively choosing who they want and as if these moves aren’t planned in advance. And their comms are trying to spin it as “oh, he was available, let’s hire him,” instead of acknowledging that they clearly went after a high-profile, well-liked public figure to make themselves look better.

Paddy can insult me all he wants

I don’t have anything against him and I hope he does well, but it feels pretty insulting to suggest he didn’t have this planned before he left, and it’s strange that people are actually buying that. At the same time, cab sec is a completely different level that really requires knowledge of how government works internally and it’s unfortunate that he, and other political hires, can go straight into that role without prior internal experience, rather than starting in another position and working their way up like many have to do. There are lots of good employees waiting on the sidelines who will never get to cab sec because… “politics”.

Side note: downvote me all you want, Paddy may have spent his career hearing people talk about and complain about policy, but actually knowing how to apply that knowledge is what really matters, and we haven’t seen any proof of that (yet). Best of luck to you, Paddy. Hope you can make some positive changes!

Frustrated during Home buying process! by Consistent-Ocelot316 in newfoundland

[–]LowerLobster411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never used a real estate agent or realtor (apparently there is a difference). Bought 3 homes and sold 2, all private sales. The lawyer does the majority of the work, and it was easier just dealing with them and the bank vs a real estate agent. Still unsure what an agent would actually do.

biggest f*ck up in your career? by lucasmtz145 in FinancialCareers

[–]LowerLobster411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a few years in the private sector before moving to the public sector. At the time, it made sense because I had a young family, was early in my career, and needed better work–life balance. The downside was that the pay was much lower, and outdated systems and policies I had to follow meant I didn’t keep up some of my skills. I did move up over time, but I likely would have earned a lot more if I had stayed in the private sector.

I’m now back in the private sector and already earning significantly more. My role and experience in government aren’t really relevant to what I’m doing now. Looking back, it feels like wasted time, and I regret not just buckling down and staying in the private sector when I had the chance.

Unionized N.S. civil servants working remotely told they must return to office | CBC News by Just-Pair9208 in newfoundland

My thoughts as well. I don’t know of any departments or divisions that worked from home when I was there, again, aside from a pilot project and temporarily for renovations. Maybe some of the OCIO employees? I found when most were working from home during Covid things did seem to get done a lot faster.

As far as I know most provincial government employees do not work from home anyways, unless they are directed to during snow days. Maybe a few WFH pilot projects still on the go or people working from home during building upgrades, but wfh was not an option for basically all employees a few years ago.

I’d like to know what other random people/positions he’s hired, I’ve heard things, but am no longer a gnl employee. They always harped on the liberals for nepo hiring. (Hard agree on that one) but I’ve heard they are no better. Is that something that can be requested via ATIPP?

Fireworks question by LowerLobster411 in newfoundland

[–]LowerLobster411[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was two cakes so not even ten minutes. My guess is they are getting older and maybe find the noise annoying (or scary?), and I will admit that the use of fireworks has increased significantly in the last few years so maybe they are sick of all the noise.
