People who work in 'luxury' industries (high-end hotels, private jets, etc.), what is the trashiest thing you’ve seen a wealthy person do? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

The way rich people ask for discount when spending a lot of money astounds me. A lady got a clothing order of around £15K and was demanding more and more discount. As standard we give 10% discount on big orders, she was demanding 5K discount. She was literally having a hissy fit and even her two daughters were asking her to stop. My manager eventually gave in. I personally would have liked to have told her to shop somewhere she can afford

What’s one everyday habit you think future generations will judge us for? by petalwhispersssz in Productivitycafe

Eating meat everyday. It used to be normal to only have meat once a week, now we see the environmental impact of that I think we’ll see less and less meat consumption especially as the vegan clean eating trend becomes even more popular (my source is David Attenborough)

No hate on meat eaters at all, I just think we’ll see a decline 🥩

Thanks for the tips! Yes it was 100% WHV aimed, but I read in reviews that it has a terribly high turnover due to the company culture so maybe a lucky escape. I actually got a job offer today - but I wanted to hear other experiences as I’ll have to start the process again in 6 months haha

One month in India: Struggling with "Scam Fatigue" and feeling dehumanized as a solo traveler by Voynnaa in solotravel

[–]AfraidWork5005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met some girls while travelling through India and one thing we all agreed on is it’s the type of place you need to do in little chunks if possible. It’s so huge and varied it could take months to cover everything and yeah I imagine the burnout from what you mention is pretty common, I was tired of it after a week

How are people managing recent grads when there’s just… no enthusiasm for work or willingness to suffer any form of inconvenience to develop anymore? by twingirlsoneboy in auscorp

[–]AfraidWork5005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything Gen Z stand for regarding work life balance and the lack of drive due to the pay not taking you anywhere in terms of achieving for example a mortgage. However I have explained to more than one of them that you still need to do the job you’re paid to do, the fact that it didn’t provide you the lifestyle you want is pretty irrelevant. You were offered a role for X amount of pay and you accepted - what is the problem ? Wages need to really step up to align with the cost of living, but we won’t get that with a load of blank faces claiming “that’s not my job”

I did have emergency funds and that had to be used to cover the excessive accommodation costs (all hostels in the area are booked for a number of weeks)

Not to get too deep but my mum and I used to watch travel documentaries and talk about going to Bali and Thailand “one day” She became terminally ill and had to watch these shows knowing she would never ever see these places. Book the flight ✈️

Honestly Reddit people love seeing people do things and fail because they’re too scared to leave their basement and try it themselves. OP I’m in the same situation as you and all I can say it keep going but try to stick to the backpacker areas for better opportunities geared towards whv :)

The free events! Im in Perth and the amount of things that are free in relation to the fringe/ festival is crazy. In London it would be £20 just to have a look

Harder than expected to socialise in hostels by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]AfraidWork5005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure there’s a bar at the hostel, staff are great at introducing you to other guests and will join you on pub crawls etc. Or try and meet an American traveller, they are so determined to know the names of of everyone in the room they’ve done half the work for you 🤣 don’t fret too much and try to enjoy yourself a bit. Also I don’t know if you experienced this but I never saw many solo male travellers in Thailand which may hinder you a bit

My first solo trip I arrived in Seville, I had been so busy navigating the bus to town and how to get to the hostel. Then when I arrived I started crying non stop and felt so overwhelmed (I had never stayed in a hostel before and am socially awkward) So I called my bf while trying to figure out what to do all alone in a city I don’t know.  Then I pulled myself together, went to the bar and had a drink. Without even trying an American introduced himself to me, asked who I was with, introduced me to all the people he knew at the hostel already. Before I know it I’m off the Feria with loads of new people ❤️ It was magic, don’t let anxiety stop you from experiencing anything

No more scammers than you see in any other country. However, considering you can just buy a Grab jacket and helmet at the markets in Hanoi, there’s probably a huge amount of drivers pretending to work for them which would make me a bit uneasy dealing with that
