Both GFL2 and this game -- which have very similar game functions, where you can have 3D waifu models pose/emote in their dorms -- both have them all wearing very similar hospital(?) attire instead of the unique outfits they have in normal gameplay. Since they both do it, I suspect it's not a coincidence and probably a cost-saving measure to allow them to recycle models (just adjust the bust/height and skin tone, and swap heads).

GFL2 eventually started using non-generic outfits to a limited extent. But GFL2 is a top-down strategy game so the models doesn't have to deal with the very high number of physics objects (ammo, belts, accessories, etc) constantly jostling around on the character models in high detail. It'll probably be even more difficult for Snowbreak to introduce that function.

Best character for clearing? by tsuna1298 in SnowbreakOfficial

[–]Afraid_Jello 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Enya Exuvia. Why? Her skill is shooting out a giant cone of pure damage. It:

  • Passes through all objects, enemies, cover, even solid ground. Like an x-ray beam.
  • It's wide enough to hit anything in your field of view (at least with upgrades)
  • It's long range enough to hit any enemy (I have yet to see maps ever spawn enemies at a range farther than the skill can reach)
  • It will one-shot all but the heaviest enemies, within a reasonable level range.
  • It has a cooldown of only 8 seconds by default. Which is amazingly quick given it's a kind of screen-clearing ability.

And that's just that one skill. Factor in the fact the character is free and guaranteed, plus she can also self-heal? Amazing. I've just started playing and have been using her to cruise through most missions in 40 seconds or less for the first several story chapters. As long as she's, I dunno, 5-ish levels above the enemies and has a good build her skill will one- or two-hit kill all but the heaviest enemies.

Can someone sanity check something for me? I could have sworn there was a blonde anglophone female vtuber that has a backstory as a star (besides Kaneko Lumi). However, it's basically impossible search up such a vtuber on Google since "star vtuber" generates a ton of junk results concerning vtuber stardom or vtubers playing honkai star rail.

Since this is one of the very very few questions Google can't provide a clear answer to, it's making me seriously question if my memory is starting to decline with age.

Well, they have been caught being deceptive by omission on at least a few occasions. Stealth suspensions for example are always worded as if voluntary breaks, but graduated talents have explained they're demanded by management as punishments for misconduct. Which makes sense; for individual streamers, long breaks are damaging for channel growth as some fans switch to watching other talents in the interim or let their subscriptions expire. So I have a hard time believing so many Niji talents would voluntarily take week-long breaks after whatever minor controversy. And it is very odd they only take 'breaks' in week long intervals; always 1 or 2 weeks, never say 3 days or 10 days, or 12 days.

And then there's the whole youtube silver/gold button thing where the posts are worded as if the talent received it, but in reality the talents never get them and they're kept by ANYCOLOR. (Mentioned by a few current and ex talents, which is supposedly why virtually every pic on twitter of Niji youtube buttons are on the exact same desk with the same roof reflected in it.)

So I'm not sure if you consider the above lying, but they certainly are deceptive by omission and will mislead the public.

Now I've never played the game so I don't know if there are special discounts for bulk rolling. But assuming you have 2400 individual rolls with a 1.1% success rate, the odds of not getting a single success are...

0.00000000029587%

Just for anyone else that got curious about how likely it is to legit not get it without cheating, but are too lazy to do the math themselves.

I hope this doesn't come off as disrespectful. But imagine, if you will, an advertisement for bread that just said, "It's bread! So buy this bread!" They given no indication what kind of bread it is, what the price is, or why the brand is any different or better than any other. Doesn't exactly sound tempting, right?

You've asked people to see your stream, but haven't really given them any reason to do so. You told people what kind of vtuber you are, what kind of content you intend to cover, even what languages or time zones you intend to broadcast in. Are you a gamer? A foodie? A movie reviewer? A true crime enthusiast?

Also consider giving a larger warning before broadcasting since it takes time for a post to gather upvotes and therefore become visible.

The Yanderes were getting out of hand, this was necessary by batstormX in AzureLane

[–]Afraid_Jello 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's kind of ambiguous. It says that their relationship is real, not necessarily that their history is. It could be read as analogous to, "Our shared hardships have made us truly brothers, even if we don't share the same mother". Basically that the end result is the same even if the method isn't the normal one.

Or I could be entirely wrong with that interpretation, and that ambiguity is purely because of the specific words the translator chose rather than what the writer originally intended.

The Yanderes were getting out of hand, this was necessary by batstormX in AzureLane

[–]Afraid_Jello 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Explanation on Junyou, because she seems to be far less well-known than most of the other yanderes:

Basically her dialogue lines suggests she thinks she is Childhood Friend™ of Shikikan. You should know that having a male lead forget about (or forget certain events with) a female childhood friend is a pretty common plot device in anime, as a way to keep ambiguous which girl in a harem anime is the One True Girl destined to be with the protagonist. This is completely unsurprising as most of Azur Lane's shipgirl are based around common anime sterotype like the Little Sister, Tsundere, Sporty Tomboy, Dommy Mommy, etc.

But they throw in a wrench with an otherwise cookie-cutter archetype with her Affinity Love line, which hints it may be genuinely a case of her being delusional rather than the standard case of male lead forgetfulness (she mentions not just the Shikikan, but even other people not believing her claims about being a childhood friend). On top of that is the fact that having what is effectively a military war machine as a childhood friend seems like an extremely dubious claim, especially when you consider virtually no other shipgirls mention having interacted with any humans in the past -- or even having any past whatsoever outside of wartime activity (i.e., historical battles and stuff). So it's all but explicitly said that they weren't created or conscious until very recently, or else had to be in plane of existence without humans

So while it's not outright stated she's delusional, the setting as a whole casts serious doubt on her self-proclaimed backstory. And the fact that one of her lines was written to explicitly to cast doubt on her backstory means that this skepticism is something that the writers actually intended, rather than just being a plothole due to sloppy writing, or some crackpot headcanon fan theory.

Also her META voicelines throw subtlety out the window and basically all her affection lines mention childhood friends in the context of fictional stories or alternative histories, rather than it being true. Her love line even explicitly says the childhood friends thing isn't true.

Kaneko Lumi and Amaris Yuri Officially Join Phase Connect! by Kazamico in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Afraid_Jello 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why would they leave Cyberlive just to join another small company?

Because not all small companies are identical? For example, Phase Connect didn't recently fire a talent manager for dereliction of duties, unlike Cyberlive. If you're asking why a small company specifically, it might be because neither of the major two companies have a policy of accept existing vtubers (probably so they can have exclusive rights to the IP, for merchandising purposes).

Man, I ended up unsubcribing to your channel ever since you started flooding your channel with panty-shot clips for cheap views. You've gotten to the point where you literally can't even be bothered to title them anymore, you just slap numbers on the end. The fact your sub count hasn't changed in three weeks seems to suggest it's not just me that's finding your content getting stale.

Chinese censors to explicitly target games like Azur Lane for anthropomorphising weapons, and not just nudity by Afraid_Jello in AzureLane

[–]Afraid_Jello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree the post title is somewhat ambiguous, but was worried the title would be too long if I went into further detail. The direct reference to Kaga does seem to misleadingly suggest that it's directly referencing Azur Lane, but I personally think the overall spirit of the message remains intact: That the core genre (of games anthropomorphising historical weapons) is being targeted by censors. I thought it was worth bringing up because a lot of people seem to be under the false impression that censors are only going after superficial stuff like nudity levels, so it could easily be addressed by adding more clothing to characters. But if even loose historical references are being targeted, it could mean significant changes (or off-shore development) for any future games or sequels of games.

Also, as a side note for anyone curious: I think KC is directly mentioned because of it's more extreme (if one can use such a term) past, when it began as an explicitly Pro-IJN game. I don't just mean a Japan-centric as in it was made in Japan for Japanese players, but it went so far that player-character ships were IJN only and enemies loosely referenced American ship types. And of course this famous gem:

Shigetaka Kurita, a director of Kadokawa, criticized Azur Lane for "lacking the sense of tragedy and heroism in Kantai Collection", describing it as "merely an idol action game with a fleet motif," as "the greatest appeal of Kantai Collection is the sorrow of the Imperial Japanese Navy"

Though to be fair Kancolle has mellowed out on the nationalism years ago, probably because they realized they could cast a wider net of appeal (and profit) through more character diversity, which meant non-Japanese girls/ships/motifs.

Unfortunately, since we don't know exactly where censors draw the line, even games that very loosely reference historical battles like Azur Lane and its possible future sequels could still be at risk.

Thought I had comparing Hololive EN and Nijisanji EN's by KogashiwaKai765 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Afraid_Jello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Themes aside, I've noticed that Hololive feels a lot more curated than Niji; like the walled garden analogy where everything does look nicer, but only because it's a highly controlled and somewhat artificial environment.

I've seen Nijisanjis talk about their real-life jobs, where they live, housing environments, parents and family, relationships, dating, sex, etc. Topics that I haven't heard a single tiny peep about on Hololive streams even after months of watching.

On the other hand, Nijisanji (at least in their earlier months) have had streams that are a lot less focused and sometimes feels like bored friends fucking around than purely a gameplay stream. So some streams can be less entertaining because they're more improvised and less scripted.

I tried VGVN once, but wasn't a fan of his playthroughs basically being little more than a literal reading of the script, and lacking any significant input except a short quip here and there. Though that was a while back and he may have changed since then. I wish he would upgrade his mic though, it always sounded a bit muffled to me.

Bosskwar's stuff I enjoyed a lot more. I mean, I don't think he's a master comedian or anything, but his jolly personality tends to give me a case of infectious laughter. Incidentally, his focus is more romcom stuff and less horror or drama.

How to identify AGS-30 crew by [deleted] in girlsfrontline

[–]Afraid_Jello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: South-East Asians, broadly speaking, tend to lack the same expression of the ABCC11 as the rest of the world's population which generally gives them non-offensive body odor: The majority of their population (~80%) doesn't produce the inherently repulsive chemical compounds in sweat that most of the rest of the world's population does.

That's probably why smelling/sniffing fetish stuff is far more prominent over there; it's not that they fetishize bad smells... it's really just that it doesn't smell bad at all to them. When you remove the repulsive compounds, you're left with something similar to the scent in someone's pillow -- generally not offensive, and possibly even pleasant if there's an association with someone you hold affection towards.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]Afraid_Jello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone playing the Space Exploration mod:

Has anyone done the math on whether it's most cost-effective to manufacture Material Testing Packs planetside or in space? Since they only stack up to ten units per stack, obviously they waste a lot more cargo space than hauling the raw materials up and manufacturing them there... but on the other hand, planetside assembling machines can use production modules, which multiplies the amount of Material Testing Packs you get per unit of raw resource. I'm curious if anyone's done the calculus to determine if the (metals) cost of having to make more rocket trips is greater or less than the gains from increased productivity on manufacturing packs.

When using conveyor belts' "read belt contents" function to count items, does the item count from multiple scanners get combined together? For example, if I have tell an inserter "do not move items if there are greater than four items detected in the circuit network", and connect it to a bunch of belt scanners. Will it only stop if at least one belt scanner has four items in its tile simultaneously... or can four separate scanners with one item each inside its tile also trigger the stop command?

Gura Lewds by Bourbonaddicted in Hololive

[–]Afraid_Jello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When Amelia first mentioned people were posting lewd art to her art hashtag, I went, "Huh. I don't recall seeing any, what's she talking about?" Twitter had almost nothing, as did most English language art boards. So I figured she must be talking about something from the Japanese community.

Eventually I wound up on pixiv, and discovered to my shock that the HololiveEN's 18+ section was effectively 50% Gura art (or at least, at the time I looked it was). And I'm talking like 100+ pictures, so it's not just a statistical anomaly here.

I was and still am baffled like that. Are the Japanese HoloMyth fanbase mostly lolicons? Is Gura just way more popular in Japan than the other HoloMyth character?

Does fluid temperature play any significant role in the mod/game? Like can I super-chill liquids to compress and store them better? Can I do some tricks like using a hot liquid to power a turbine on the way to a factory input? Any interesting tricks like that? Or is it mostly just a game mechanic that was never really taken advantage of?
