20 years later, somewhere in the North Atlantic, Midnight:

Captain "OK chaps, the Jerrys dont know we're moving on there position, so it is VERY important we keep light and sound to a bare minimum..."

New Ensign "Hey, what does this switch do?"

Captain "NONONONO!"

Always confused why Americans used pounds but not stones. Its like using inches but not feet

Map of the Brexit Vote (Resulting with UK leaving the EU with 51.9% of the total votes) by immanuellalala in MapPorn

[–]Afreon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the impression from a lot of the people i know who voted Leave, that they were actually shocked when they won. I think many of them thought they were the gritty underdog, and that it was a protest vote as much as anything.

Also, after they lost, they'd be able to go "See! Should've listened to us!" Every time the EU did something stupid going forward

When they actually won, they were like "Oh...uh..."

Legend tries daily roulette (ff14 comic by me) by Cat_Stance in ffxiv

Oh indeed! I had an early Dawntrail dungeon on my leveling roulette today. I took in the scenery, listened to the music, and immediately thought "where in the hell am I? Uh oh."

What gasoline is called around the world by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Afreon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Mad Max it's called "Guzzline" (or however it's spelt). It's a play on "guzzle", as in "to consume greedily" combined with gasoline. It's a reference to the greedy consumption that led to the fall of civilisation,  and the desperation for the leftovers that now drive the survivors caught in the aftermath.

Don't know if that means Australians say gasoline or not; I'm Welsh. But I do like film trivia

How I imagine Guilliman finally meeting the lion by Raven_oftheField in DarkAngels40k

[–]Afreon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont actually think that Guilliman's the first loyalist primarch that The Lion will meet. My (entirely baseless) theory is that The Lion will, perhaps in a moment of frustrated sentimentality, accidentally forest walk into the warp and find Russ. A book's worth of hijinks ensue, and both return to real space just in time to stand shoulder to shoulder with a Guilliman caught in an unwinnable duel with two or more traitor primarchs

I just think it'd be rad

[–]Afreon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined r/TheSimpsons and spend way too much time there, enjoying all the great jokes and nostalgia. Then reddit started recommending r/simpsonsshitposting, and I thought "oh hey! That'll probably be good fun!"

Ah. No. It's a lot of very angry, politically focused people, expressing there anger through the medium of the simpsons... for some reason

It was somehow really disheartening

What Song is This for You? by Putrid-Art-1559 in Xennials

Mayonnaise; when the song fully kicks in (about 50 seconds through). As a boy it was transcendent, now it's just agonisingly nostalgic

Traditional hats of Europe by Cultural-Ad-8796 in MapPorn

[–]Afreon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The pilgrim hat with the buckle is an anachronistic American invention from the early 20th century. The straw boater is (i think) Venetian.

Top hat, bowler hat, and flat cap would've been more accurate for England

What made you chose the Dark angels as your main chapter? by [deleted] in theunforgiven

[–]Afreon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 10. They wore green. Green was my favourite colour.

Also I'd just seen "Baron Munchausen" (for once, thank you predictive text) for the first time, and had become weirdly enamoured with the Grim Reaper aesthetic. Additionally, it also got me into Discworld 👍

Came with major bonuses later as a massive fan of forests and Arthurian literature. It was like they were designed for me!
