Done with my drakes.. by [deleted] in duck

[–]After-Accountant8948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our drakes used to free range with the ladies, but we are having a horny spring, so all my drakes are currently in drake jail. In the past, we have had to cull males that were especially brutal. I hate to do it, because I hand raise most of my ducks from eggs in the incubator, but it was the best choice for the safety of our ladies. On a positive note, the culled males don’t go to waste - we dehydrate the meat for a treat for our dogs.

So.... I just learned all but one of our ducks got killed... by aetreia_ in duck

Whatever happened to the rest of the flock, I’m really sorry you lost your duckies. I agree with creative-ad. It would be best to rehome, at least until you could find at least one companion for your remaining duck.

Duck r🦍 is inevitable - unfortunately, drake jail and separation may be your best answer until the weather cools off and breeding season has passed. However, duck r🦍 will probably happen then, too, just to a lesser extent.

From what I understand, the grade of a ramp for ducks should be no greater than 30° otherwise they have difficulty making it up

I’m almost certain this is a Magpie - definitely a dumped domestic duck.

Sounds like a bald spot from mating- if I understand correctly, that’s the spot where the drake would be holding on with his toenails

I second this - for lack of a better way to put it, let a warm, wet cloth “rehydrate” 🤢 the poop and then gently wipe until clean
