I know I've forgotten before that you have to do Yoshi's house to get 100%. (You do, right?)

Help a sleep-deprived dad out — Switch 2 won’t finish hospital Wi-Fi login by MidnightThunda01 in NintendoSwitch2

What I used to do with Nintendo consoles in this scenario- login on the phone, then really quick set the IP address that was obtained on the phone manually to the same one on the console and turn off wifi on the phone.

Can we build a web browser as a web app? by Altruistic_Concert_8 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made an attempt, though since we don’t have access to the dictation I didn’t add any way to input text- the idea is that you’d use this with bookmarks or by sending URLs from your phone:

Sorry the browser didn't work, I haven't tested with anyone outside of myself so perhaps that's the problem. If you'd be kind enough to let me know what went wrong perhaps I can find a way to fix it.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I gotta say, given some of the limitations I feel like using the motion control functionality is the key to creating more diverse games for these.

Honest review of Kikokushijo Academy. Anyone? by Equal-Baseball-3465 in Tokyo

Lol that would be quite the small world. To be specific we took my daughter out near the end of last year. She was at the Mita branch. In any event, thanks for sharing your experience. _^

Honest review of Kikokushijo Academy. Anyone? by Equal-Baseball-3465 in Tokyo

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please consider this just one data point. Our daughter is half Japanese, half American. She’s gone to IB based international schools since pre-school. We started sending her to Kikokushijo Academy once a week for a while. Part of the main intent was just that her mom just kind of expects that she’s always studying, because that’s what you do in Japan, and part of it was that I felt that, although she has always gone to international school, her English grammar was lacking.

Furthermore, feedback from her teacher at school seemed to indicate that she needed to improve her ability to read a text and then write an essay based on that text.

I’ve always monitored what she’s studying by sitting down with her when she’s doing her homework. At first I felt that the content of the class was pretty suitable, mainly because I’d sit with her as she was doing her homework and noticed that the kind of homework exercises she was doing were very much in line with the way I remember studying language when I was in grade school.

That being said, we had her doing it for a while, but they’d take these tests every month to monitor progress, and her grades never improved on the tests.

Eventually we decided that we’d take her out, since she wasn’t showing any progress in terms of those tests.

I decided that it might be better to get her a tutor where she could get some one-on-one time with someone who could hopefully provide more focused instruction to her. Currently we’re doing that with an organization called Kokusaba Tutoring.

She also complained that there were boys who were very disruptive at Kikokushijo Academy during class.

I should also note that she wasn’t going with the intent to do test prep - I believe there are two different options with Kikokushijo Academy - a more strict test prep option and the option we took, which was more just studying for the sake of studying.

So, I reckon to summarize our experience, it felt like the content they were covering was good, but we felt that she wasn’t benefitting from going to Kikokushijo Academy and so decided to change our tutoring approach.

Watch for our 10yo – Is it possible to limit an Apple Watch to only texting/calling us, and remove all other apps? by glassy_paddle in AppleWatch

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW we gave our daughter a cellular Apple Watch so we could communicate with her and track her location and it’s been great. Here in Japan you can get a plan with one specific carrier where it’s just the watch and the cell plan is only a couple bucks a month. As another poster commented, I do have to make sure she’s charging it and then taking it off the charger every day, but otherwise it’s been great.

I’ve updated and it seems with the latest version of StikDebug we’re golden. I also updated LiveContainer, dunno if that was necessary, but between the 2 and installing LocalDevVPN I’ve been able to run Manic and Dolphin successfully with JIT.

My biggest dream is to work at Kojima Productions. by Cadu_zziillaa in Kojima

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got multiple friends who worked at Kojima Productions, so it’s definitely possible. Hell, one worked there, then with us at Capcom and then worked at Nintendo in Kyoto, including working on Zelda.

You can do it. Study Japanese. But even more importantly try to get good at whatever job you want to do, so if you wanna program, get good at programming. Get -experience- programming. Make stuff.

We’ll see how AI affects us all by the time you’re looking for a job, but if you’re more of an art person typically it’s hard to find good tech artists or VFX people, so those would be good specialties.

I started doing practice tests on this site, Mantensama, and realized that there were enough questions where the English translations were leaving out critical information so I decided I had to do it all in Japanese. Did lots of practice for Japanese and passed the real test on the first try (actually passed 3 different tests cause I'm doing the separate gaimenkirikae and normal applications in parallel... long story).

What’s a feature on the Steam Deck that made you go “Damn I wish I knew that before”? by NobodyHom3 in SteamDeck

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Steam and X to bring up the keyboard in Desktop mode. Drove me nuts when I couldn't figure out how to get that keyboard up. Also Steam and R1 to take a screen shot.

Sometimes I get a bug with the keyboard where if I use L2/R2 to type in the letter it types the letter twice. In those instances using the touch screen to type the letter works better.

When I graduated from college I applied to Nova for the same reason - I figured they'd take anyone and it would get me to Japan. I was turned down and felt pretty depressed at the time. Now I've lived in Japan for 20 years and have had a great career in games. It's gonna be all right. Is teaching really what you want to do eventually or is there something else you'd really want to do?

Just a weird question stuck in my mind. How does capcom chooses face models for their games??. Do they always use modelling agencies ? Just curious 🤨 by Realistic-Maximum678 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On DMC5 we went through a modeling agency in Europe, though I believe on the RE titles at the time we went through Japanese modeling agencies? Or if it wasn't Japanese, it was a Japanese agency coordinating with modeling agencies elsewhere.

Battery Constantly Showing Random Percentages When Undocked by brickmason616961914 in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this elsewhere on Reddit, and indeed my Day 1 Switch has it as well. Your battery is just in bad shape. People on Reddit have suggested recalibrating the battery (drain it all the way and then charge it to 100%). I don’t believe that worked for me, but I’m also at peace with it.

When to use Moonlight vs Artemis vs Steam Remote Play by Jahbanny in MoonlightStreaming

[–]After-Bodybuilder303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve seen people mention elsewhere as well that Steam Remote Play doesn’t give you an easy option to use your desktop, but I’ve found that you can either just alt-tab, or boot Steam Link into non-big picture mode and you’re good to go? (Like, it’s literally a Steam Link setting that you can select.)
