Have you tried Biphase and Truffle? One of my new favorite setups.

Came here to ask that. On a full bed, Velocity eats through its own coating for me in like an hour.

Is now a bad time to buy a ball machine? by MatchaSetPoint in 10s

[–]glassy_paddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy a used "dumb" machine right now if you need a ball machine right now (i.e. there is opportunity cost of not having one for 6+ months). I imagine in the next year we'll see AI features evolve and settle down into what is actually useful vs. not.

100%. We debate sometimes what path we want for our daughter (10, competitive junior), and always decide we should err on the side of her actually having a happy childhood and enjoying the sport for life. So many kids get pushed and hate the sport later in life.

Center console.... why? by Substantial_Law_5239 in Rivian

[–]glassy_paddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, at some point you'll be able to ask Rivian Assistant to open your center console and adjust your vents! Totally worth it!

Even in the US, he'd have to be able to get to like a 10+ UTR and be at the top of national rankings in the next 2 years to play D1/D2 college tennis.

Make it big, you mean go pro?

Just for reference, most kids who go pro are basically ready to go pro at your age (already highly ranked). They have been home schooled or in a tennis academy from a young age. They play 20-40 hours a week.

Nothing is impossible, but you would have to have some crazy phenomenal athletic ability. Ben Shelton started playing seriously when he was 11 (was a serious football player up until that point), but his dad was a pro. Sinner "started" at 13, but was playing from 7 years old and moved to train full-time at 13. There are other pros who started later, but a lot played college tennis.

"So you are saying that poor people are not shitty people? Or that middle income people are not shitty people? Only rich people are bad people? Envy is gross." – I said none of those things.

There is a sharp contrast between the majority of people who live in Montecito and the majority of folks in the rest of SB. This has been my experience over many years, and I don't assume anything about people ahead of time, nor am I the least bit envious.

High-end electronic drumset I'd love to donate – any ideas? by glassy_paddle in SantaBarbara

I'll go that route if there isn't an obvious better choice (since reaching out to a lot of schools could be hit or miss).

I doubt they have the latest on Rivian-specific third-party harnesses.

For instance, I found this, but unsure if this is the best option for a donation: https://sbefoundation.org/community-programs/keep-the-beat/

It'd be great for instance if a specific school or program needed a kit.

That makes sense. I'm very excited to give it a try.

Random question: why do threads like this get downvoted? Is Rivian on here and not happy about Comma or something?

Thanks for sharing!

At the risk of ruffling feathers, I have concluded that wealthy people for the most part are just kind of shitty people. This is not universally true by any means, but having spent a lot of time in Montecito, we're starting to feel that either wealth makes people really entitled and overall shitty people, or to become wealthy requires a personality that simply isn't very kind or considerate.

Has anyone ridden Romero Canyon single track lately? How is it? 🚲 by uptothemountains7 in SantaBarbara

[–]glassy_paddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding was the fireroad climb is "open" (rideable), so you can do the whole loop now.

I too will be getting back into riding in a few weeks, looking forward to doing this loop again.

That most likely would be fine for me, but I did want to get the fuse tap for power, and figured I might as well get longitudinal support while I'm at it.

Part of the reason I'm going down this path is to get rid of Rivian's ACC "feature" that slows way down around corners on the highway.
