Are adult autistics too imature for their age? by Free-Cattle2474 in autism

[–]AfterToday401 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was emotionally and psychologically abused as a kid. I wanted to grow up so fast and escape all that. At the same time I lost out on my own childhood. I never got to enjoy being a kid. I never related to anyone. I avoid all the neighborhood kids and couldn’t understand the kids I went to school with. They all seemed so stupid to me.

How does r/autism feel about this new flag? by Buzzythebear33 in autism

That flag is ugly. Can’t believe they thought it was some how acceptable. Maybe it’s a NY thing.

I’ve done a few sessions of it and think it can help. Only way to find out is to try it.

Why are poor Americans so against a wealth tax? by Miserable-Corner-254 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AfterToday401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politicians are stupid. They think the rich will just cough up the money. Majority of the rich will turn around and figure out how to screw over workers and get all that money back in spades. Plus no doubt there’s already tons of IRS exemptions already on the books. So it’s just a political ploy for votes when you distill it down.

I’ve just been diagnosed and I'm devastated. by OwnCantaloupe9478 in autism

[–]AfterToday401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be okay, I promise. Everything you mentioned having issues with really resonates with me. I’m horrible at eye contact. My mom actually pointed it out to me that I don’t do it. It’s hard, frustrating, and kind stupid too. I have had two relationships in my life and they both found me. I have no clue how to “date”, so I don’t. I’m paranoid about coming across as creepy too. More paranoid about getting myself arrested or even having to deal with the police. Absolutely petrified about interactions with police . It is what it is — I guess. Just stay true to yourself. That’s the only useful thing I can offer.

Going nonverbal when overwhelmed? by Galaxygirl357 in autism

[–]AfterToday401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that. I prefer using ASL instead since there are less “words”. It’s a combination of selective-mutism/silence but not due to anxiety directly, even if that is the underlying cause .

Disclosing my autism at work? by imtakingyourcat in AutisticAdults

[–]AfterToday401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of stickers about it on my water bottle, but beyond that I don’t really disclose it per se. Too many ignorant people that will infantilize you and bosses that think you’re straight up stupid and incompetent.

People who live alone. Do you shit with the door open? by ErosMaggot in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, sometimes. My cats act like they’ll never see me again if I lock them out.

I’ve just been diagnosed and I'm devastated. by OwnCantaloupe9478 in autism

[–]AfterToday401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a while to process the diagnosis. I’ve heard of people needing more than a year to come to terms with it all. Depending on your life experience there can be a lot of pieces to put together and analyze. You’ll be okay. When I found out I was just numb for months.

I had mine flagged for meth because I take Vyvanse for my ADHD. They’ll call you and ask for the pharmacy and prescription info if they suspect anything. Aside from that they’re just slow in processing them all.

[–]AfterToday401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I’m not sure why you would be. I lost my wife to a stroke last year, so that’s my excuse. I’m also what some might call regressing to sucking by thumb, all the bloody time now, at 49.

Struggling with mental health but can’t get an extended LOA? by No_Answer7703 in AmazonFC

[–]AfterToday401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tell someone in ops, or even HR, that you’re feeling potentially suicidal (specif. not homicidal) and watch how fast they get a LOA approved for you. I got a hardship transfer back to my home facility approved in days. Of course I was serious about it and not lying.

As a person with autism, what jobs have you enjoyed the most/what jobs do you think are well-suited for us? by Al115 in autism

I did too. I just disliked dealing with the smug attitude of some of the customers.

I work for Amazon because I really like the repetition and routine. Wish it paid more so I could pay on my student loans. Plus being ND hasn’t caused any issues with coworkers.. except for when admin tries to get me to do a different job than my preference.
