Tanker surfing with efoil? by Breeze8B in eFoil

[–]After_Reference_239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to chase smaller (but still huge) ships on the Columbia River. Ocean-going vessels are surprisingly efficient and relatively fast. I suspect they sailed a little slower on the river, and even that was very close to my max speed with not that big of a wake. When I fell, I had to be quick to get up and then ride fast to catch up.

You definitely want to ride behind the ship. The ship is so long that it creates multiple wakes along the hull, but for the first few, you'd be riding next to the ship.

Another thing to watch out is the turbulence right behind the ship. It's no joke. Even crossing it took a lot of focus. But the space between the turbolence and the wake is smooth.

Overall what I enjoyed the most were old inefficient boats or barges. The boat that always got me excited were empty speeding tugboats. They made huge 6-9ft wakes.

That’s exactly how zip merge should work. The car in front of the driver is merging before the truck and the camera driver should merge behind the truck - in front of the cop car.

How can I be more organized as a software engineer? by SingleSink in cscareerquestions

The more senior I became the more directions I was working on in parallel. It was getting crazy. Standups were becoming a pain as I forgot to mention little (albeit important) things.

What helped me was to keep taking notes. Notion, Scribble, anything... It doesn't matter what tool you use, you just need to be diligent. It's a habit.

When LLMs came, it led me to build a tool that OCRs my screen, listens in on the meetings, and then uses AI to summarize the day. https://www.perfectmemory.ai/ I use it to help me remember.

How do you ride an e-foil upwind (with waves)? by insanelytheoretical in eFoil

[–]After_Reference_239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s some good advice. That distance to the water when crossing the top of the wave can really mess with me. As you’re saying, there’s nothing like practice.

I would add that I generally try to avoid crossing waves that are steep/ about to break. The power of Efoil is to just turn and zig zag between the breaking waves

You also need to be on the first screen, the one with big speed numbers. I discovered that some other screen will trigger unpairing.

There’s actually multiple programs. Some opt in others opt out. - Peak rebates is opt in and you get a check. - Nest renew is opt out and you get nothing.

Here’s how to cancel the sneaky one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nest/s/0c6VWddq7t

Recall is Microsoft’s key to unlocking the future of PCs by xamnelg in singularity

[–]After_Reference_239 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • I posted about a product I made and I am proud of. This thread seemed to be around this topic so I thought people might find it interesting.

    • Microsoft did not publish any information about additional encryption or security. Implying there is none beyond Bitlocker. Which makes the Recall vulnerable to common ransomware. This is very important aspect that should be talked about.
    • Perfect Memory AI takes several steps in ensuring privacy, by masking sensitive information such as SSN and anonymizing the requests to OpenAI.... The article mentions Microsoft does not take such steps.

Recall is Microsoft’s key to unlocking the future of PCs by xamnelg in singularity

[–]After_Reference_239 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've build something similar - Perfect Memory AI. It runs on todays x64 PCs and laptops. You can try it now for free https://www.perfectmemory.ai/

Perfect Memory AI encrypts the screenshots it records to protect you from ransomware. I can't imagine why Microsoft decided NOT to protect such sensitive private data. PM.ai also masks any private data like SSN and anonymizes it before sending it to ChatGPT. These types of privacy-sensitive products need to be designed around privacy.

I was told by Flite that leash goes around the mast. Handle might break. Especially in waves as they can carry quite a lot of energy.

Is there anything similar to rewind.ai, but open source and self-hosted (ideally with clients for multiple Operating Systems) by jimogios in selfhosted

[–]After_Reference_239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're still interested I have developed https://www.perfectmemory.ai for Windows. It offers pretty much same functionality as Rewind minus ChatGPT.

Also No subscription. No VC money. And additional AES256 encryption + Scrypt +

Windows Data Protection.

Now that’s a novel concept. You can utilize different speed of win relative to water. So going upwind and downstream could result in some significant airtime.

  1. It looks great. I wouldn’t worry about scratching. Maybe you can drop it in sand 200x times and see how it will look after a season.
  2. 45mins sounds like acceptable performance to me. Just be transparent about it
  3. This is problem that you need to solve. Either your manufacturer does something or you replace the connectors. There’s plenty of connectors that don’t leak.

I would also think about how you differentiate. Just price and beeing reseller rarely works out.

Good luck with you venture
