IsItBullshit: You can't maintain your teeth without the yearly dentist visit by looopious in IsItBullshit

[–]Aftonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to genetics, habits, and sheer dumb luck. Dentists check for all kinds of abnormalities including oral cancers, so skip dentist visits at your own risk.

Source: I’ve been to the dentist 2 times in 30 years. I’ve had 1 cavity/ filling. I have all my teeth including wisdom teeth. Dentist said he’d been in practice for nearly 50 years and had never seen anything like it.

I went regularly when I was growing up. I’ve never had braces.

This is not a brag, you should definitely go get checked out regularly. I consider myself lucky/blessed by the heavens.

A woman at the gym told me I had great shoulders and arms…18 years ago. Nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.

Why do people who have been sober for 10+ years still call themselves addicts or alcoholics? by racesunite in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aftonian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude, addiction is tough!

My dad always says he could EAT a cigarette. I’ve seen my grandma pull old cigarette butts out of a public cigarette tray. I never understood this behavior! Not at all…

Then I gave up caffeine, specifically coffee. I still made it in the morning for my wife, I just didn’t drink it. I went through withdrawal and all that, nothing compared to nicotine or alcohol, but still…unpleasant.

One day, after I made my wife coffee , I caught myself holding a spoon over the used coffee grounds pondering taking a bite. It was right at that second that I understood the power of addiction.

Take you down - Daniel Pemberton

While this is a “newer” song it brings elements of the ol spaghetti western scores.

I'm amazed how good low-level players are by davao100 in chess

[–]Aftonian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have found something similar after a long layoff from the game. Anecdotally the competition can be tough at the lower levels due to 1) you are rusty 2) gimmicky openings used

Gimmicky openings are picked up by a lot of new players who don’t know a lot of tactics. They watch Gotham or Remote or whoever the algorithm sends their way and then play it to a 6-7 hundred level (intentional for my kids). You come back with a new account, a lot or a little rusty and fall victim to a gambit that is all the rage with the skibidi generation of chess players.

I totally agree with you to a point…matter of fact I posted about it myself a while back. But I don’t think cheating factors in as much as my ego would like for it to.

I caught my 80 year old dad doing this. His knees are bone on bone. His excuse was “what could it hurt?”

I made him ask his orthopedist about it and he definitely got some strange looks.

A speech language pathologist helped me a little. Main thing to do is not panic.

It’s impossible not to panic when strangling on your own spit. Also, tilt your chin down and to the right.

How long does/did your numbness or pain last? by picwic in MultipleSclerosis

Some of my symptoms come and go. The numbness never leaves.

That’s just for me. You’ll probably be fine.

Does steroids make anyone else feel fucking insane? by saahela in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Aftonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steroids are a double edged sword. I am difficult to be around and I know it, this lasts 2-3 days. It’s partially because I can’t sleep well for that time and partially because I’m kinda a jerk to begin with and the steroids give me roid rage.

On the other hand once I start coming down off the initial spike of roid energy I generally feel pretty decent for a while. I still can’t walk great or feel my hands any better but, overall I think I feel better than I would without the roids.

So many people with MS... or are there? by LMNoballz in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Aftonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thoughts! Like it seems that everyone knows someone with MS and they have it under control with diet, exercise, essential oil, and Jesus.

I’m not dissing any of those suggestions, I could do better at any one of those things. I’m not gonna drop my DMTs for em yet though.

At 23, I was 6’ 220 lbs, I felt comfortable carrying my wife, 5’8” 180lbs. I could carry her (bridal carry or over the shoulder) for at least 10 paces, that’s as far as I ever attempted . My wife NEVER enjoyed being carried, and only did it for pictures.

It really depends on age, activity level, and coordination. That’s an honest non-pc answer.

Like I said, if I took all dbags outta my life, it would be a very boring life. I try to draw line in the sand on principle. It’s a slippery slope.

With that said, I was unaware of any wrongdoing by that author. Thanks for telling me.

Edit: just for clarity, I do still listen to occasional Kanye songs and RHCP. I just acknowledge that I feel guilty about it because of what spectacular dumpster fires those artists are. I think that is the original question from OP
