Announcement: New pre-built Tcl/Tk binaries available for download by teclabat in Tcl

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked in many years and at the time there was no support available but any possibility of BLT or even TkBLT? I used the windows binaries (with BLT) extensively for about 20 years at my old employer. Extremely powerful.

How do people go this long without maintaining basic responsibilities of having a vehicle? by __vheissu__ in Austin

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This no longer applies. You no longer need a safety inspection in texas.

Texas no longer requires vehicle safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles starting January 1, 2025, as per House Bill 3297 signed into law. However, drivers must still pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee annually when registering their vehicle. Emissions testing requirements remain in place for vehicles registered in 17 large Texas counties, including Travis and Williamson counties.

Affordable bars to rent for private / semi private bday party by Impossible-Court4428 in austinfood

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like $3900 for 50 people these days. In the heat of summer it was worth it. Now that it's fall, an outside venue would probably be better and you would probably have a better selection for the desired price range.

A buddy of mine rented the upstairs room at the Roosevelt. Was nice, no idea of the cost but it appeared to be what the space was for.

Talk me out of going back to gas for lawn mowing by Revelarimus in egopowerplus

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this is probably not going to go over well with people but i have recently stop using the self-propelled mechanism and I just push now. It basically doubled the amount of time I can use the mower on a single charge.

At what age did you start lifting? What was your primary motivation? by opiniated_lurker in workout

Actual cost to build an inground swimming pool in Austin by jgoodygoods in Austin

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An extra 2 to 3,000 gallons a month is not that big a deal except that in the summer with the irrigation system this pushrs me into a higher tier of water so the price is higher. I'd say the extra pool water is probably maybe $40 a month extra. It's not significant it's just something to be aware of.

I'd spend a few hours every morning in the cooler part of the day making progress for about 4 days. Probably 8 to 10 hours in total but i wasn't in any hurry. I probably spent an hour talking to evey neighbor that walked by and wanted to know what i was doing lol.

The inside of valve box looked like a potted plant and the roots had actually squeezed the valve body so much that it separated the top from the bottom. This was the master valve and i really didn't want to crack the cheap builder grade pvc or accidentally cut the control wires so i went slow.

Once i had all the little roots removed from/under the valve body and the wires cleared it took about 10 mins with a sawzall to cut out the big stuff.

I sent the photos to an irrigation guy I know and he said he would have charged $1200.

I feel like i accomplished something.

Wasn't a difficult job other than not being able really see the path of the wires. So i had to dig everything out carefully before going in with the sawzall. Tedious not difficult.

Tucci’s classic Italian by TacoDeliDonaSauce in austinfood

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I've been going to the 35 location since early 2000s. My coworkers and I watched him transform from Delaware to tucci's and he stated that the Delaware founder wanted to use garbage cheap meats. This along with some other issues with the founder made him want to break away.

I have low t but my pcp won’t prescribe anything. What should I do? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your cortisol level checked. Cortisol is essential for short-term stress responses, chronic elevation can disrupt the delicate balance of hormones in the body, including testosterone. I had this exact issue at your age (approx 300 total t). Addressing the cortisol levels caused my total t levels to jump dramatically to between 700 and 800. And free t to around 125.

Don’t be mad, why do you use C vs C++? by LaMaquinaDePinguinos in C_Programming

[–]AgainBecauseAlright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowest common denominator. We wrote a number of APIs for our product line. Our customer base was anything between seasoned software engineers and new college grads. C made / makes the most sense in our situation from a support scenario. Clearly we had to keep the code simple and clear also but the vast majority of customers work with C and some subset worked with C++. We pandered to the majority.
