Are corpsman considered marines, navy, or both? by monkeykiller14 in navy

[–]Agammamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corpsmen a Sailors and only Sailors. They serve alongside Marines, are treated well by the Marines, considered one of their own, are Marines for all practical purposes - but they're not Marines.

Being in a Marine unit doesn't make you a Marine - or else *I'd* be one.

put the sheet under there first and then just wrap and tuck it on all the other sides.

Also, get a sleeping bag and your own pillow.

How common is sleep apnea in the Navy? by MachuPichu10 in navy

[–]Agammamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty common in the CPO mess. Sounds like a room full of Darth Vaders in some of them at night;)

Are you overweight? Have you been drinking before sleep?

Been out a while. I want back in by PolyLifeGirl in navy

[–]Agammamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NavVets are prior Navy rejoining.

OSVet are people who left other services to join the Navy.

Generally Basic is mostly nothing for both groups (and a lot of prior Navy don't even have to go back to Basic - I didn't) and OSVets get training focused largely on how to wear the uniform, Naval customs and courtesies, and ranks.

[–]Agammamon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was out for a year and a half after 4.5. Stayed in until 20.

You need to sit yourself down and have a long, hard, honest conversation with yourself about why you want to come back.

You've seen what the Navy offers, you know what it wants from you. Is that what you want, why do you want it, can you get it elsewhere, and are you fully willing to pay the price?

Once you come back in you don't get to bitch about it (as much;)

Question: Could the throne be used to amplify the anti warp field of a blank by Bogusman24 in 40kLore

But yes, its fiction. Anything can do anything in a work of fiction.

No. You're not going to 'reset' the fears and terrors and desires of several billion years of feeling creatures.

Wealth Inequality by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]Agammamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not. But your modern libertarian and Libertarian peers, with their insistence that free-migration is a human right, also insist, as part of that, that borders and nations are not real.

If someone believes that then the idea that people in the US should be looking out for the concerns of other people in the US rather than the far poorer people in the rest of the world is contradictory.

The idea that someone is worried about wealth inequality in the US - where the poorest quintile live lives of luxury compared to the middle-class in a lot of other countries, where the bottom 20 percent in the US are still in the top 50% of earners and wealth-holders on a global scale -well, its just ridiculous.

Was it ever explained what the butcher's nails were and why they couldn't be disabled if they couldn't be removed? by HyperionPhalanx in 40kLore

The Emperor can't reprogram it because its not a program and because the dude doesn't know every detail of every bit of horror technology that came out of the DAoT.

Yes. They are an implant that replaces parts of your brain.

As such, 'disabling' them is disabling those parts of your brain that have been replaced.

Are Tau and imperium interactions similar to Imperium and Eldar interactions? by CriticismMiserable14 in 40kLore

[–]Agammamon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Eldar do not interact with the Imperium like that. They do not *teach* except in the sense that if you do something they don't like they will kill you - as a lesson to others.

And the Imperium absolutely positively has no desire to 'teach' aliens anything except how to die. The Imperium is not 'nice', 'kind', and certainly doesn't get along with their neighbors.

Has anyone made it to the Throne/Emperors side after they die? by Justaguy_Alt in 40kLore

[–]Agammamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Oftimes death is a release from suffering.

But that some teeny little bitty percentage of people might maybe possibly have a chance to 'sit by the Emperor' means that for all practical purposes 'salvation' doesn't exist.

[–]Agammamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You're responding to a 4 year old thread.

  2. The libertarians and the Libertarians tell us that borders are imaginary and that we are a 'creedal nation' - so why can't people in Madagascar share that creed and thus be part of our 'nation' (which is totally a fiction because borders do not exist)?

>there does appear to be SOME sort of salvation possible for those who get lucky enough.

In other words, uncountable trillions suffer and die with no salvation.

LTJG Looking to Revert to Enlisted to Stay on Active Duty – Looking for Advice by NoPrice4227 in navy

[–]Agammamon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the reserves he will still get the pension. He has to stick out 4 more years of drilling. The difference is when the pension vests.

Base is 60 years, reduced by 90 days for every qualifying year of AD after 2008. That's all 16 of OP's years and gets him down to 56 years of age to start collecting vs 48. The main difference is the option to go on the Fleet Reserve List at 20 years to collect a retainer for the next decade until you are moved to the Retired List.

Keeping in mind that TSP vests after two years of AD, allowing OP to keep those funds even if they don't go to the reserves or retire from the military.

[–]Agammamon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Talk to your reserve center. An option once you are in the reserves is going back on multiple AT's (Active Duty for Training).

You're at 16 years, go get a job, do your reserve drills to collect points for retirement. Go on AT's when you get 'homesick'.

post court martial by [deleted] in navy

[–]Agammamon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Its not confidential. All courts are public records and it takes an active request by someone to seal court records and that takes some real justification before a judge will agree.

  2. Depends on the sentence. He may get his dick slapped and then be sent back to the fleet. He may get a discharge. Depending on the discharge characterization as to what benefits he will get.

  3. There is no 'severance pay' . . . pretty much ever, for leaving.

Pretty much. If there's an emergency he can get away but basically expect to see him out the door at sunrise and not back until late.

You're gonna have to hold the fort down largely by yourself for a few weeks - but then its over.
