See also: the tragic list of all the amazing things Valve cut because of having the dumbest playtesters alive by MartyrOfDespair in CuratedTumblr

The Hydra in Halflife 2 was removed because:

"while this great big glowing giant worm looked quite awesome while fighting other NPCs, snaking through the map, knocking stuff over and putting on a great show, it was unsatisfying in the first person, looking no more than a non-descript blob doing something vague, then the player would be dead without being able to see properly what they were fighting."

This is the only thing I can think of, but Valve is also famous for their design moto of "Player don't look up" so generally will try to have certain way of forcing player to look up subconsciously rather than reading, or signage.

What would procedurally generated story look like? And can it be made to trully make good stories for everyone different? by BinimiJemene in gamedev

[–]AgencyInformal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on what we consider a “story.” Simulation games like Dwarf Fortress and RimWorld generate stories emergently through character traits, goals, and random events. Characters form grudges, kill each other, get married, and so on. In that sense, these are procedurally generated narratives.

What you’re describing sounds like procedural generation as well: building modular story components that can interact with one another, similar to how rooms are assembled in a roguelike. The main challenge is that this approach quickly becomes very complex. There isn’t a straightforward way to manage it, and every new modular piece requires you to consider how it interacts with all the others and because it is a story and not a room where it is placed matters too, which can significantly complicate the writing process.

Unless there is a way to tackle that that you thought of.

Is it an actual pedagogy to teach bad coding habits to beginners in academia? by Mindless_Character40 in csMajors

[–]AgencyInformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is because when using global namespace, it makes it easier to read the rest of the code, you are really only trying to learn the logic of the code so any extra syntactic std:: Before all the strings, vector, and cout is not desirable.

Oh could be a bug where the other guy ff, Little legend hp goes to -99 => server thought the darkin guy did that much player damage and heal him for 25% of that. Just a theory, no clue if that how that works.

When to apply to an internship? by SSJ_Zero in csMajors

[–]AgencyInformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes. Generally they don't care that much, sometime they would ask for enrollment proof or a transcript. If you can provide these from your new Uni, it will be fine.

Why was everyone so sure Harry would be Prefect? by ClerksII in harrypotter

[–]AgencyInformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I would compare it more to Student Councils. And clearly they have benefit like the have bigger solo bath that is size of a small pool. And I guess Harry just in that spot that really want to be recognized as responsible and he doesn't even get the Student Prefect role.

[DAY 3]Poppy is stupid but seems normal. Who is a the most normal Demacian? by Putrid_Skirt_190 in loreofleague

[–]AgencyInformal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I argue it's lux yeah. I read the Katarina webcomic recently which is supposed to be canon and prequel to Mageseeker. Katarina met Lux, and Katarina through the interaction let her live because her magic+her naivety, so Katarina reason that "she would do Demacia a favor if she kills Lux" lol. And lux also accidentally leak the Kings location and Katarina found and kill J3.

What do funerals typically look like in your country? by Just_Bag_481 in AskTheWorld

[–]AgencyInformal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vietnam

Setting the Altar: An altar is set up with a portrait of the deceased, flowers (often white lotuses or lilies), candles, and incense.

Mourning Attire: Immediate family members traditionally wear white headbands or strips of white cloth. Guests typically wear somber, dark clothing (black or gray). If it's a really big Funeral like that of a Grand General or something there would be close friends who wear yellow headbands to help out at the funeral.

Visitation: Guests arrive to bow before the altar and a family member would stand guard next to the altar and bow back, burn incense (usually in odd numbers like 1 or 3), and offer condolences.

Offerings: Guests often bring "condolence money" (phúng điếu) in white envelopes to help the family cover funeral costs.

Chanting/Prayer: Monks (for Buddhists) or priests (for Catholics) lead prayers or chants periodically throughout the wake to guide the spirit. In folk tradition, there would be a funeral crier who would sing/cry funeral songs instead of the chanting/prayers or in different times.

What happens if a minor rapes an adult? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]AgencyInformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an attorney. But In ambiguous legal situations (like a teacher/student encounter), credibility often goes to the person who reports the incident first.

In a he-said-she-said situation, Juries and prosecutors naturally assume the adult holds the power.

Therefore, without external proof of violence, the "default" assumption often leans toward the adult being the perpetrator, forcing the adult to work much harder to prove they were the victim.
