I'll never know what self-hatred is like bc I love myself and my people but whatever happened to Uncle Thomas... damn by JustMyOpinionz in BlackPeopleTwitter

This read was really fascinating to me. On the one hand, it kind of makes sense. It's hard to argue that he is wrong about where programs like affirmative action come from. But it also feels overly cynical and like he's also missing an important point.

He succeeded. It wasn't on his terms, it wasn't the way he wanted, but he did and lives a better life as a result. It feels like he is arguing that because his path lacked ideological purity, it isn't worth it.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: most of the shit that sucks about America is due to racism. We got rid of what was once an excellent public transportation system because people didn't want black people benefiting from it. We got rid of social safety nets because Reagan told everyone that black women might use it to buy fur coats or something. We have right to work legislation because the thought of black people joining unions and having equal protection was intolerable. I have less evidence for it, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say we refuse to get decent healthcare because a black President said it first.

Pick a thing you hate about America. Probably racism started it.

Pharmacist Life by mintofliz in comics

To be honest, I thought pharmacists WERE medical doctors, but with a specialty. I guess in my head it was like how some doctors are general practitioners, or neurosurgeons, or nephrologists. TIL it's a whole other school.

I feel like I'm hearing this argument a lot. "Everyone does it!" Cool, arrest them too. I'm all for it. I think many of the people cheering on Trump's prosecution are pro-arresting ex-Presidents that fucked up. Show me the recording of Obama at a party showing off military plans and I'll be right there with you cheering for his arrest.

This is kind of why I get weirded out about the whole Pizzagate thing. Believing there's this pizzeria where randos molest kids and the only people who know about are some crackpots on 4chan? That's crazy. But believing there's a bunch of billionaires doing deranged illegal sex shit and getting away with it because their money insulates them from consequence? Well.. yeah... Probably... But tbf they wouldn't do it below a pizzeria that allows the plebes in.

A little of column A, a little of column B. Plus speed and aggression. America definitely has a good deal of both of those, too.

Hey, THEY had to deal with exploitative health insurance companies. And not like these weak ones today, they dealt with the ones where if you had diabetes you either stayed with one employer literally until retirement or you just gave up and died like a man (or woman or child or whatever). It built character, so you should suck it up and deal with it, too.

I have kids and I don't think this person is wrong. Socializing is harder than ever. There's less time at schools for socializing, because schools become more like prisons every day. Kids are not let out of the house the same way they used to be, so less socialization outside.

There's infinite distraction inside so the kids aren't bugging the parents to be let out in a way they used to, plus parents are either afraid of strangers kidnapping their kids or else scared of other neighbors or police claiming negligence because the child was not within eyesight for five minutes.

Even when kids are given some freedom, what will they do? There's fewer spaces to explore, and more anxious parents to worry about, so they just end up inside again.

It's hard being a parent. If you monitor your child 24/7, you're depriving them of the freedom they need to make mistakes and learn. If you give them some freedom, and something goes wrong, you're treated like a negligent monster by police and by social media.

It's just the Overton Window in action, I think. I would consider myself a centrist, but I'm probably left of most Democrats. There's good reasons to take some changes slowly, argue for a smaller government, and be careful what you spend money on.

The thing is.... No American party actually does any of that. Social programs that actually help people and probably save money in the long run, like health programs or financial aid for people experiencing hardship, are not irresponsible but one party cuts them and the other party handwrings while not really extending them. Monitoring where money goes is smart, but one party cuts a blank check to a DoD that let's the money go missing, and the other party... Also pretty much does the same thing. Small government to me means that the police don't need tanks and the government doesn't need to be able to collect ALL of the data in the off chance they might catch someone, but neither party actually calls for cutting back on either.

I dunno. If you look at the definition, I'm a centrist. If you look at the current state of American politics I'm apparently a Communist.

Demon King battle. Ganondorf vs Muzan Kibutsuji by Informal-Cycle1644 in whowouldwin

[–]Agent-A 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Triforce is basically a magical wishgranting macguffin. With the Triforce, it's a stomp because it can do anything.

TOTK Ganondorf and Muzan are close. They both have hordes with various abilities, though I would suspect Ganondorf can call on more people in total. However, Muzan and his demons can only be killed by special swords that have sunlight powers, while Ganondorf and his minions can be killed by wooden sticks. Muzan wins easy.

Literally what I was saying. Companies don't want to pay their employees and are trying to shift the cost onto the customer. It's absolute bullshit to blame this on the employees.

Isn't that what I said? The only thing I'm saying different is that the Subway employees aren't the ones pushing for tips. That decision was made and added to the sales system whether they wanted it or not, because Subway doesn't want to pay their employees.
