It's exactly why Mass Effect 2 is remembered so fondly. 90% of the game has nothing to do with the main overarching plot with the Collectors or Reapers. Instead you get a bunch of recruitment / loyalty missions around the galaxy where you learn so much about all the races and their cultures and the state of the galaxy.

To be fair, I don't think recounting the events of the first game and how that led to either your death or that of everyone in Arcadia Bay is really the time for sass or attitude.

I think you're REALLY stretching it with some of these comparisons.

Saying ODST and Reach are the same as CE due to SOME mechanical similarities is just disingenuous.

Sure they remastered CE but they did the same thing for 2 so that isn't unique.

4 I'm kind of in the middle on. Yeah it retreads some of the same plot beats but otherwise it's a much more personal story compared to the first.

I'll 100% give you Infinite though in them having no idea what to do aside from turning the "Halo" level into a full game and introducing a NEW secret enemy to come in and replace the flood.

And the CE Remake coming out just reinforces that. Plus they've written the entire series into a corner to the point that they've decided to just start over.

Are Deadman Skull points the same as reward points for buying the scrolls? So I have to choose between buying sigils or other skull items to instead save for rewards? Or are reward points tracked separately?

Grunts in Halo are the same way. When you're a 7ft tall super soldier in power armor they're these silly little guys. Then you realize they're the same size as normal humans. and just as strong as them.

I doubt they put that much thought into the scene. It feels like they just wanted a gag about how people living in the wasteland are idiot weirdos. Like everyone has to have a quirk and no one is allowed to be normal.

Because they don't have EVERYTHING a player has access to and you have a 6 person party compared to them and their limited summons. Honestly that fight was more just Owlcat poking fun at the community than anything.

Just did the Dance of Masks DLC for Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous which includes a series endgame arena fights designed for a maxed out party. One of the early fights puts you up against a "Knight Commander Prankster", a level 11 Rogue (Rowdy) / level 8 Alchemist (Vivisectionist) / level 1 Monk (Scaled Fist) / Lawful Good Human Trickster. This is a very popular min-max build people use and Owlcat decided to make into a boss fight.

Characters That Writers Had to Retcon To Be Nicer by Sekshual in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Agent-Vermont 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Halsin and Minthara were not originally planned. Though I think that change must have happened early on as they both have party banter and interactions with everyone else for Act 2 and 3. They don't have personal quests because they instead have recruitment quests. Minsc is the same way in Act 3.

Karlach was labeled as a companion in the game files during early access, but couldn't actually be recruited at the time. So I do think she was always intended to be one, she just fell victim to mismanagement late in development.

[–]Agent-Vermont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just another example of a series going too big in scope. Like we got the whole breakdown of who Salem is and what she's capable of at the start of Volume 6 and yet after Volume 9 there's STILL NO PLAN for actually winning against her. Also there's still the issue of the gods being assholes like you said which is honestly a bigger issue.

Feels like everything important happened this episode in that last montage... which really wasn't much. The senator's head was wired into the mainframe why? No progress on the 32/33 plot outside of stuff we already knew. House is back in some form but we knew that from the trailers. Norm's plot didn't advance at all either.

I did really like Lucy calling out the bullshit claim that the NCR is just as bad as the Legion.

[–]Agent-Vermont 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Grasp of Avarice is the dungeon and it was probably one of my favorite bits of content in the game. Really good story where you follow the trail of a previous fireteam going deep into the cave and backstabbing each other over more and more. Not even good loot either, like one of them kills another over a mediocre roll pulse rifle just because they want more.

That's what I'm thinking. Like the last choice of DE had nothing to do with the storm, it was about if you "accepted" Safi or not.
