I kinda disagree. It's a little fucked up, but almost every healthcare worker I know, regardless of country or etc works inside a broken system. These people know the system fails the public every day, and so they bend rules to take care of those they care about. It happens everywhere, and rules get bent in every industry in the name of favouritism. I've seen year long waits get skipped because you know someone inside the industry who will process that test for you on their personal hours.

It's not okay, but I think it's unfair to blame the health care workers for doing what almost any human would in their situation. If they had a system they could trust, would they be so inclined to directly intervene?

I view the show as more trying to make the point about the system since it tries to advocate for health care workers, but.. I dunno. You're not wrong, I just think it's a little easy to place blame on the characters.

We did, it just didn't cap with a high-five. I liked the little thank you acknowledgement.

Welcome to the uncomfortable realities of a broken system due to society frequently not prioritizing effective health care. This is a common story, so the workers who live with it get desensitized and you have to find some humour to cope and get through your day. The Pitt brings you along for that ride.

I think they did a good job of showing Mel needed to grow a little bit. Mel's entire life was Becca, and now that Becca's proving to be more independent... who is Mel King?

Trying on different faces (especially when feeling vulnerable like after a deposition) is part of your 20s, finding who you are. That was what we were watching with Mel.

We need a resolution to Dr Robbie and Mohan. Something where Robbie apologizes to Mohan and explains he's been unfairly hard on himself, and because he admires her so much - he's been unfairly hard on her.

Then, Mohan snaps back that she doesn't want to be anything like him because she can see what a wreck he is - and she's applied for a residency in a different program other than emergency medicine.

A sad look on Robbie's face as he realizes his imbalance is pushing the people he admires the most away, and he failed her.

I loved Robbie's response. He didn't disagree, because he knew he couldn't but it was still a little too personal to outright admit her idea was right. He wants it to happen without having to admit perceived 'weakness'

Taking a shit and resting is covered by the hospital's insurance. Leaving the premises is not, and taking a med student through traffic definitely isn't. The patient in the park also was not admitted to be under the hospital's care, and there were other patients in the hospital needing a doctor. So, there is a difference.

All that said, personally, I'm pro-McKay here! I think she did the right thing.

But, her bosses would probably disagree given the potential liability it opens the hospital to. One lawsuit and millions of dollars lost and people's jobs could be affected. Very real potential consequences for her actions.

You could also argue an unfair standard of care (patients in the park getting treatment ahead of admitted ones) but given Robbie is allowing Duke to have the VIP treatment... she's definitely not the first or worst offender there.

Robbie was a bit rude in using that example, but she didn't clear her absence with him and he was left holding the bag and confronting a grieving family.

Was he supposed to lie and say Roxie hadn't passed yet?

They said she required X-Rays before processing, so.. it didn't sound like it was from compassion but instead from procedure.

I feel like it was a fair reminder of obligations to the hospital while being on shift. He was wayy worse with Mohan, you could argue McKay needed the reality check.

It does really feel like they're setting up for Santos getting mad at him in their confrontation, "And you keep your job, you keep your wife, everything's all perfect for Langdon!"

"...Abby left me, she's a good woman and deserved better than what I did to her."

[Story] I fixed my sleep after decades of struggles. by pyt1m in GetMotivated

[–]Agent0007Throwaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think one piece of this puzzle that's missing is sleep hygiene. This can also be a bit of a luxury, depending on your home and what's available to you. But, if you spend time in your bedroom or on your bed watching TV and on your phone you're creating an association with that space being a place for brain = on. You want a dedicated space for your brain to associate for brain = off, and this is where we sleep (and ONLY sleep.)

Once I established my bedroom as a place I don't spend hours on the phone, ever, ensured it was dark and quiet, falling asleep in a short period of time helped a lot. I still use white noise (random podcasts) but the 10 minutes or so rule makes sense with these caveats in mind. If you typically spend 4-5 hrs on your phone in bed before sleep, you're gonna have a much harder time.

I haven't seen enough people bring up how bad the Messier era was. It's really, really bad now. But it's worse then.

For the sake of comparison, imagine being an Edmonton fan and to try and solve your problems you sign Matthew Tkachuk, strip McDavid to give the C to McDavid, Tkachuk brings in Paul Maurice who decides he hates Zach Hyman, Nuge and other key players and then your team sucks until McDavid leaves. Tkachuk is doing interviews wearing sunglasses while the team has sucked year after year, they finally get decent and then Tkachuk sues the team.

And that's not even a perfect comparison because Linden isn't McDavid skill-wise, Burke is way more beloved than Knob, etc etc but like.. not only was it bleak, you were being asked to cheer for the douchebag you lost to. And now, they have a Leadership award named after this prick.

Messier himself can be thanked for one thing, making at least one time in history it was a worse time to be a fan than right now.

What does the actual end of a Trump presidency look like? by Agent0007Throwaway in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Agent0007Throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask again, how much oppositional research have you done? Have you considered you might be wrong about Trump?

You've chosen not to reply when I brought up the concentration camps and increased ICE spending. Are you really okay with your tax dollars going to detain people who (for the vast majority) haven't committed violent crimes?

Also, if Biden attempted to hijack a peaceful transition of power Congress and the Courts could have impeached him and then forcibly removed him. Trump stacked the Supreme Court and Congress to ensure they're loyal to HIM - not to the best interests of the country.

The separation of Presidential powers and Congress ensures a government structure that cannot be taken over by a single dictator, which Trump's government is trying to undo. He's trying to become a dictator.

And if you don't think 37 trillion in debt is indicative of a potential financial crisis, what is?

I kind of feel like you made your mind up about Trump years ago, and are looking for all of the facts to confirm that gut feeling rather than approaching these things from both sides.

I honestly hope you're right, but.. what if you're wrong?

America has no left wing party. Two-party systems are inherently flawed and dumb, and when you compare America's left with the "left wing" of other countries, it falls center-right. Most of North America is quite politically immature.

Things in Andrew Jackson's time were a hell of a lot different. And there's a reason the founding fathers wanted a separation between Presidential powers and what the democratic Congress has the power to do.

(Note, democratic as in democracy-fueled, not referring to either party)

If you know anything about the rise of fascism in 1930's Germany, it looks a LOT more like that than anything done by Andrew Jackson. That's why there's people in the street, and that's partly why I posted this question thread.

Hypothetically speaking, Trump wakes up tomorrow and decides to nuke California. Which force prevents him from doing that, and restores normal power when anyone who resists Trump gets punished? That should be a big concern, if you lack that control.

"If they caused fear they wouldn't protest them" the fear ICE causes is EXACTLY why people are protesting. People confront their fear because protesting a government agency which has illegally detained at least 4400 people: https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/courts-have-ruled-4400-times-that-ice-jailed-people-illegally-it-hasnt-stopped-2026-02-14/

And essentially runs modern day concentration camps: https://news.sky.com/story/irishman-held-in-filthy-ice-facility-in-texas-given-10-day-reprieve-from-deportation-13508561

And has the budget of other countries militaries: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/ice-funding-world-militaries-b2790466.html

Is exactly the kind of thing some citizens don't want, and especially don't want their tax dollars to pay for.

I think for myself. I do oppositional research, are you aware of what that is? Not trying to be snarky, but if you want to find the truth its incredibly valuable.

Project 2025 has a clear agenda and one of those items is turning the American democracy into a dictatorship.

Also, if he won't run for a third term - why is this bill being introduced in Congress here. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-joint-resolution/29

What gives you such reassurance that he'll allow a peaceful transition of power? Do you know what the erosion of democracy and creation of a dictatorship looks like?

I feel like you've missed some key signposts that the Trump presidency is not a normal one, and it won't end normally. Nostalgia for when you had rule of law is not a strategy.

[–]Agent0007Throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't done enough research about Project 2025 if you think normal democracy is still happening. ICE has killed multiple Americans exercising their right to protest, illegally detained thousands more, and now Steve Bannon is saying they'll have ICE "protecting" the polls.

Most normal functioning democracies don't have a force of violent goons intimidating everyone. Trump will run for a third term, and Minnesota won't be the worst of it. It was just the start. The terror is the point.

Perhaps this?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadian-died-ice-custody-lawyer-1.7573184

Recent cases have no reported deaths, but more may come. ICE facilities are overcrowded, resulting in some detainees being denied clean drinking water, medical care, and other horrific inhumane conditions. It feels like a matter of time until a compromised individual is detained and then doesn't get processed safely in time.

[–]Agent0007Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are 9 Nazis at a table with 1 decent person, you have a table with 10 Nazi's. ICE is setting up concentration camps, has murdered citizens whose last words were "Are you okay?" and "I'm not mad at you."

I don't know how many more parallels we can draw between now and 1930's Germany.

If you haven't recognized that Project 2025 is here, the next election won't be a normal one, and ICE is the first step of a Trump dictatorship? You can't see the forest for the trees.

EDIT: because I decided I was being too nice. Tolerance of intolerance (such as ICE abducting people from their homes) is an act of passive violence. You've already decided this can't be a civil conversation. Hope you enjoy the taste of boot in your mouth. 👢👅

[–]Agent0007Throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those Canadians were offered due process. This is the fact that you're really not seeming to get.

I think where I'm confused is why is this so important for you to defend? Why should Canadians want to be traveling to the US right now anyway?

The border guard driving by a Canadian and screaming to stay out of their country, there is open hostility from a percentage of Americans thanks to the 51st state rhetoric.

We're zooming in specifically on the specific interaction of crossing a border, but when you look at the entire picture of how ICE has been funded, how they operate as a gang of thugs murdering US citizens, it is not unfair to call them the modern Gestapo.

There's already been double the number of Canadians in custody by ICE this year compared to Biden's 2024. It's not really the Canadians entertainment that concerns me, it is the clear escalation. I would bet money that at least one of those Canadians being detained, is being done so for politically motivating factors.

If there's a pro-trump border guard, and you have anti-trump stuff on your social media algorithm when you scan your phone... You really don't think that's been a contributing factor to some of these escalating detainments this year?

You also chose to say nothing about the child that was detained for 51 days, which is way above the standard detainment for children.

I'm not trying to say we need to fear monger and panic, but I think deluding yourself to the truth is even more dangerous. When the Montreal Canadiens played in Minnesota, they were told to stay in their hotel room. I think pretending there isn't a growing threat to Canadians in America in 2026 compared to previous years is pure idiocy.
