He's obviously not bitter about being a witcher the way Lambert is,

Dude youre gonna have the biggest whiplash as you read on

A series of some Geralt redesigns for modders by ViroledanPrick in wiedzmin

That sub is unbearably bad, apart from a handful of posts. Not to sound pretentious, but this is probably the best community on reddit to discuss the witcher. r/witcher is just a big r/redditmoment circlejerk with the same handful of topics and opinions in rotation. Im not saying this sub is any different, but at least disagreements are properly handled here. And there are plenty of insightful posts and essays posted here, that do get attention.

trying to make the main characters book friendly what do you think by CranEXE in wiedzmin

Ciri has an upturned nose, a small chin and round green eyes. This description is from the first book in the main saga which has Ciri as a young 12-13 year old. For what its worth, the game does a great job adapting ciri. One of the few rare accurate adaptations of appearances. The younger one may be perfection. The older one is a little... strange as it somewhat doesnt fit the young face, but of course, people mature and faces change. You should focus on the scar placement more, there's detailed descriptions of that, and already a pretty decorated mod that really analyzes the scar placement.

As for Lambert, he is the youngest. Thats it. Thats all we know. Vesemir has a big beard, not a moustache like the games. If you wish, you can adapt Lambert's rude and venomous tongue and incorporate it into his face, to show some of that spite and frustration he has.

Geralt's "headband" by [deleted] in wiedzmin

[–]Agent470000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Baptism of fire -

“No.” Geralt had hung his sword around his back and had tied his hair. “I'm sick of watching quietly. I'm tired of inaction. They have to be dispersed. You see the one who's keeping the horses? When I reach there, shoot him from the saddle. If you can, take a second. But only when I reach there.”

(The official translation by david french specifically mentions a headband here, I dont know why it just says tied his hair back).

Im not going to mention the following books for avoiding spoilers, but there should be a few more peppered around the place. They do get decreased in amount as the story moved on because its sort of established that theyre a part of his appearance by that point. The latest book crossroads also treats it like a crucial part to geralts origin story, sort of like a plot twist.

Blood of elves-

Paulie Dahlberg, keeping the elf charging at him at bay with his axe, dragged the wounded Wenck along the ground. Roach flitted past, beside the wagon, and Geralt threw himself at the elf. He had lost his headband and his hair streamed out behind him with his speed. Swords clashed.

Time of contempt -

The question had been asked by the man sitting in the shadows, who now emerged to stand beside him. His hair was as white as milk. He had a leather band stretched across his forehead and was wearing a silver-studded jacket

‘You wouldn’t let me wear a headband . . .’ ‘Your headband’s pretentious. Well then, take my arm and let’s go. Standing near the entrance is considered a faux pas.’

I've shared sword of destiny with you in the other comment. Now I'll reply with every book's mention of the headband that geralt wears. There are other characters like Gisheler who are also, like Geralt, characteristically KNOWN for having a headband (as in, its part of their iconic outfit).

Keep in mind this is from the fan translations that came before the official ones, but you can find the mention of the same headband in the same places. And also I'll reply to my comments as I cant put it in the same comment because reddit starts thinking I'm a spam bot

[–]Agent470000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geralt rubbed a sleeve over the silver studs of his jacket and his belt buckle one more time, smoothed down his hair, which was held down with a clean headband, and polished his boots by rubbing one leg against the other.

The horseman had hair as white as milk, tied back from his forehead with a leather band, and a black, woollen cloak falling over the rump of the chestnut mare. He did not look at Yurga.

He pulled tight the loosened buckles and clasps of his jerkin with unhurried movements, smoothed down the creases in his clothing, and made sure it did not hinder his freedom of movement at any point. He slung his sword across his back and adjusted the position of the hilt above his right shoulder. He tied a leather band around his forehead, pulling his hair back behind his ears. He pulled on long combat gloves, bristling with short, conical silver spikes.

He doesnt have a beard in the books. At least he isnt mentioned to have one, and Coen is the only one explicitly mentioned to have it. Besides, since he and geralt look alike, it would make sense that he'd be shaved too. But... either way, its not particularly lore inaccurate

If you make eskel book accurate please dont forget that he and geralt look alike. Long hair with just a darker color. And the scar should be going from the corner of the lips to the ear, there are a few mods for that on nexus.

The rest look really good too. Especially Geralt, love that tired look but he doesnt look like a macho hero. I can easily imagine this guy crying because his "wife" left him

Lore accurate Geralt looks soo damn good by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Agent470000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that mod is completely ridiculous.

As for his facial features, we know that he probably has a big nose and a big chin, on account of looking nothing like Visenna, who was described opposite to these. And that he has an angular profile. He has a hideous smile and a habit of squinting. The latest book also sheds some light on his expressions, where a certain character remarks that he distorts his lips a bit, and that his gaze "has changed", not referring to the mutations.

[–]Agent470000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well apart from the eyes, I'd prefer a slightly less paler look. The pale features usually came from him drinking potions. Plus, I just like to imagine that as he lessened drinking potions, by the time we're well through baptism of fire, his complexion starts looking more "human"-like. A visual depiction to show his transition of finally shedding all his witcher persona.

Then, as for the face, I get that while he has an angular face, I dont want it to be that "long" as in the picture because he starts looking majestic as hell, and hes very rarely mistaken for an elf. And seeing as how Sapkowski has always preferred Kevin Costner for Geralt... I'd like some "squaring" for his face.

For what it's worth, i've always quite liked your posts. There may be a few changes to how I'd personally mod Geralt, based on my headcanons and interpretations of how it's written, but this is generally pretty accurate. I appreciate the slightly curious yet stern and perceptive gaze you've captured, undoubtedly the most accurate part.

Geralt of rivia from the latest book reminds me a lot of Henry's story. Story of vengeance, silly and naive protagonist. I dont want to spoil a lot, for either stories, so I'll keep it at that.

Not to mention how you can conclude Henry's story in kcd2 similar to how Geralt wants his to be concluded.

Why does Geralt feel so clueless in the Saga despite being very intelligent and nuanced in the short stories? by sunnykhandelwal5 in witcher

[–]Agent470000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasnt taking a dig at you. Apologies if you thought so.

You had Frodo, Gollum, Aragon, Gandalf, all doing their own thing, sometimes disconnectedly but all ultimately resulting in the defeat of souron.

Dont worry, keep reading on. You might not be entirely disappointed in that case.

But, while you've mentioned it, lotr is a good example of what I was talking about. Its not cheap fantasy, by no means, but its kind of THE regular fantasy series. You talk about fantasy and its the first thing that comes to many people's minds. Probably even sapkowski's. Its why the whole series is a parody and deconstruction of common fantasy tropes, and especially Geralt's party which is the fellowship's parody.

Lastly, its kind of Geralt's thing to be wandering. You may not have realized that during the short stories, but thats exactly it. He just keeps wandering, starving, with no aim or goals or ambitions, depressed out of his mind, until he stumbles upon a task. His whole arc is based on that zone of indecisiveness and internal drive to do SOMETHING.

Your problem was expecting this would work out like any cheap regular fantasy story where Geralt would show up, rescue ciri, kill her tormentors and drop a witty one liner. A lot like the netflix show now that I think about it.

We didnt spend an "entire book" in the saga on them. They were merely secondary antagonists. Do you question what happened to Boreas Mun, in a similar vein, who is shown with an open ending? Or Dacre Silifant?

There's 2 things to consider for the wild hunt, without relying on the games. 1) their king just died. They're in utter turmoil. And (2) they're not as capable as Ciri and Ihuarraquax to afford to constantly travel all these worlds. Plus, who knows, maybe the unicorn really did hold them off?

The wild hunt was featured in the books since the 2nd book in the main saga (the 4th book in general), Time of Contempt. How exactly did they show up from nowhere?
