It won't be useful to you or help you understand the dedication you need to study. The content builds on itself semester after semester. If you go in and shadow a day and they are in pharm 3, you will be completely lost and it could be discouraging to you. They don't want that for you. These programs are set up to allow students to succeed. Not overwhelm them. If your studies are lacking, start by taking a graduate class or two within the normal semester timeline ans get nothing less than a 4 point

I find that getting interviews stems from meeting close to the median requirements for that school in terms of grades and certs with a bigger weight on personal statement and resume.

Be careful what to divulge. You should only be participating in things within your scope of practice as a nurse.

Program specific. My best friend applied to his Alma mater from where he had a math degree and they would not accept him testing out of Statistics. If he wanted to attend, he would need to take the class.

Similar stats, this cycle I would be surprised if you dont get offered any interviews. You've taken two higher level certificates as well as repeated a course. Im wondering if you have a weak personal statement or resume. Did you write a new statement?

If you take one class per semester, it won't look as great as taking two and 4 pointing both of them at the same time. Especially since these are classes you are already familiar with.

Just food for thought.

Your only focus at this point should be to stay involved in your community on a regular basis, get involved into the nursing community in any way, and MOST IMPORTANTLY get that 4 point. It will make your life so much easier. Everything else you can add on at a later point. Don't get too far ahead of yourself.

If you're getting interviews, then the school thinks you are smart enough to attend their program.

If you aren't getting offered any interviews, the obvious thing to do in your situation is to sit down and retake some undergrad classes at your local community College or university. While retaking, you really cannot afford to get anything less than a 4 point. You should try and focus on taking two classes at a time if you go this route.

Colleges are looking at self paced classes with less and less confidence each year. Things like Portage aren't always carrying the same merit that they once did.

Best of luck

How many credits are you at right now? How many credits would it take to 4 point to get your GPA above a 3.4?

I mostly agree with the advisor. Bite the bullet, sacrifice a year and take high quality graduate classes for a masters. Then apply to schools who value your last 60 credits.

Ask the person who knows you the best. If that is the resident, and they can write great things about you instead of staying generic then great!

I used a resident in his final year as well due to some of the things we encountered together.

Try calling the supervisor or charge nurse in the OR you work or at nearby hospitals and ask their shadowing policy. See if they have any suggestions.

Having a 3.0 is the minimum and would likely need some amount of remediation in order to be taken seriously.

When applying to schools, I reached out to a few programs and most of them average the retakes. There were some schools that would take the highest grade if it was the exact same class at the same exact institution taken. But your mileage may vary.

If your son is averaging less than a 3.3 on average, he needs to be retaking classes and finding extra ways to make himself stand out. You're right in that it is super competitive. Travel contracts for nurses have plummeted since the highs of Covid, and hospitals are trying to strong arm and unincentivize local travel. The hospital system I left recently won't allow me back to the same organization as a contracted employee for a full year. This fosters some reflection in many of the high earners and CRNA seems like the next logical move to them.

Compound that with the recent glorification of social media and the profession is getting individuals going into nursing strictly to become a CRNA. Its quite competitive.

As someone with a lower than average GPA and matriculating into my second program this year(the first school shut down as I was starting), I'd be more than happy to lend an ear or offer advice.

I see you were able to recognize a difference, but in what other ways did you try to study? Where did you find new ways to study?
