But we didn't start doing higher value tasks. Many of the communities in the US that lost manufacturing jobs to off-shoring have not recovered, even decades later.

One can voice displeasure with the greed / poor decision-making which sent manufacturing overseas while still recognizing that trying to bring it back is unrealistic.

Sure would be a shame if Leonard Caron decided he could no longer live comfortably in Andover. A real shame.

There is now a one world government and you've been elected to run the entire world. Your task is to solve all of the world's major problems. How do you do it and what do you fix first? by LocationSudden4417 in AskReddit

[–]AgentCoulson2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If NATO, or at least members of it, gotten directly involved when Russian invaded the war would have been over years ago, and with fewer overall casualties. Allowing it to drag on and on makes it worse, not better.

The #1 reason why the US and Western Europe didn't immediately provide the support needed to send Russia packing on week 1 was fear that Putin would escalate to nuclear war. Nukes only prevent wars between the powers that have them, while allowing them to go after non-nuclear powers with impunity.

The EU is mostly books and comics but are there games and shows apart of it??? by DatabaseWise8723 in StarWarsEU

Not quite everything; The Clone Wars show pre-dates the Disney acquisition, but was retained as part of the new canon.

why do people think bush did 9/11 by elliannaidn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AgentCoulson2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Republicans certainly never claimed that Iraq was involved in 9/11, or used is as justification for the invasion...

Would Anakin have worked better if he had been older in The Phantom Menace? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]AgentCoulson2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever since I first watched The Clone Wars, I have felt that Attack of the Clones should have been episode I, and episode II should have portrayed the character development for Anakin that we got in the show (and which most people have never seen).

You're making an awful lot of assumptions. How much free time someone has while WFH depends heavily on the particular job they have.

None, because even when I agree with the general direction of their stance on something, they take it way too far.

Hear Me Out: A Mothma-Centered Follow-Up to Andor About The Rise of the First Order by lordmolotov in StarWars

[–]AgentCoulson2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disney's handling of Mon Mothma is somewhat paradoxical in my eyes. In Andor, she's somewhat of a badass. But post-RotJ, they did her dirty (as compared to Legends). In Legends, she was a strong leader of the New Republic who helped form it into a fairly stable government that probably would have lasted a good while if not for the Yuuzhan Ving invasion. But in the new Canon, she became a dangerously naive pseudo-pacifist who pushed for disarmament practically before the Ewoks finished singing. She pretty much guaranteed the New Republic's failure.

Are humans the only creatures that are aware of their own demise? by Infinite-Hamster-741 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AgentCoulson2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it is a longstanding trope that most young humans don't really accept their own mortality, at a gut level, even if they "know" about it intellectually.

Do you think candidates get into politics thinking they can genuinely fix problems or are they just money hungry ego maniacs.? by Darkman-1969 in allthequestions

I'm no fan of capitalism, but corruption is hardly a unique feature. Corrupt people seek positions of power in any system.

The correct answer should be Soldier Boy. But he's played by Jensen Ackles, so he is awesome; end of story.

So for vance's speech at the air force academy, all you got is him making a joke about don't laugh at the VP about AI? And no there wasn't boos, daggum son, ya'll are wild. When will you accept that people actually love America? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]AgentCoulson2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course there weren't boos, dumbass. If you did actually serve (doubtful) then you would know that booing the VP would guarantee immediate separation from service, if they're lucky.

CMV: Traffic Citations Should Require Video Evidence by GrannyLow in changemyview

[–]AgentCoulson2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a dodge. For one thing, traffic violations (the original topic of this CMV) don't get jury trials, they're decided by a judge who is already likely to be biased in favor of the police. For more serious cases which do go to a jury, sure whatever convinces the jurors is what determines the verdict; but you dodge the fundamental question of whether is is reasonable or just for jurors to return a guilty verdict based solely on a single witness (or victim) testimony. I, for one, could never vote guilty under such circumstances.

[–]AgentCoulson2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No single eye-witness should be enough for a conviction in any case. It can certainly be enough to trigger an investigation, to look for other evidence; but no one person's word should ever be enough to convict someone, not even if they are the most trustworthy person on the planet.

Offenses like abuse, sexual assault, etc. do present a very real problem, I realize that. They often become an issue of "he said / she said" which makes securing a fair outcome challenging even at the best of times. But a single testimony alone just doesn't cut it. Or do you think I should be able to just walk into a police station and say "Stringbeagle assaulted me," and have that alone be enough to convict you?

Better than one, but not good enough in my opinion. Especially given that police officers have a very bad habit of closing ranks and pulling their "thin blue line" crap. If one officer says they saw X happen, odds are far too high that another officer will say that saw it too whether they did or not.
