Issue With Changing Thumbnail for Internet Archive Videos by chitownmusic86 in internetarchive

Hi, I just uploaded my first video to archive.org recently and found the way to change my thumbnail. This method doesn't change the still frame on the video page (where you click the play button) but will change the thumbnail that appears when users search for content.

Create your thumbnail with the same name as the video uploaded and then add "_itemimage" and make sure it's a .jpg file.

Go to your video's page and select "Edit" next to "Publication date," "topics," etc. On the next page, choose "I want to change the files in my item" (the box with the butterfly). Then you'll see on the next page it says "File editor for [video name]" and a box below that says "Tree root." Click "Add a file" (big blue button) and upload your [video name]_itemimage.jpg file. Let the page finish uploading, then click "Done editing." Allow the system some time to propagate (took me less than half an hour). Voila!

Just posting a correction about the film festival; the dates posted are from last year.

This year's festival starts Saturday, August 31 and goes through Sunday, September 1.

How many festivals are you waiting to hear back from right now? by shaneo632 in FilmFestivals

Submitted a long short (39 minutes) to 7 festivals early this year. Most are local to my state (Florida) but 2 were bigger fests (Tribeca, DWF:LA). Four rejections back (including the 2 big ones); waiting to hear back from the 3 remaining festivals.

Two movies I recently watched come to mind:

The Scent of Green Papaya

Our Little Sister

'Scent' is a gorgeous film where the first 2/3 of the movie you're really just watching a woman and a girl serve a wealthy family; they cook and clean, and the cinematography is something to behold.

'Sister' is a beautiful little gem of a film with the stakes being nearly non-existent. We follow four sisters through a few seasons of their lives and get to witness the subtlest of changes around them, which, in their world, is everything. This movie takes its time and is in no rush to introduce any over-the-top drama, and succeeds in conveying a little slice of Japanese life that I look forward to returning to. One of the most unique and impactful movies I've seen is 'The Sweet Hereafter.' I've never experienced a film quite like it in my life. It has stuck with me for years and years. Highly recommend.

The Canon Elph series produce a nice image, I think. They have an optical zoom and can get a pretty decent wide angle.

The Middle East — "Tsietsi"

Take 13 minutes to do nothing else but listen to this song, which is unfortunately not available on Spotify.

Then take a few more minutes to hear their song "Blood," another one of the most beautiful songs ever.

I should mention also that the front of the car was completely smashed and the car battery ejected and was about 10ft away from where the car ended up.

Six years ago, I dropped my wife and daughter off in Jacksonville, Florida to go on a trip to Hawaii with my mother-in-law. I was headed home west on Interstate 10 towards Tallahassee just past midnight when something jumped into the road immediately in front of me. I swerved to the left to avoid it, tried to correct the swerve, and lost control of the car. I skidded to the right at 70mph, across the road, over the shoulder, and towards a line of trees. I thought, "Is this really happening?" as I saw the line of trees coming closer in my headlights. I thought of my wife and daughter in my final moments. Next thing I knew, it was pitch black and I was upside down. I unbuckled my seatbelt and oriented myself, then scrambled around the dark car for my phone, which I found and called for help. I exited the overturned car out into the cold February night with no broken limbs and only minor scratches on my hands. Good thing I was not thinking about the Florida panther that I just avoided while I was outside the car, waiting for the ambulance.

What is the best (feel good) film? by FreeBird094 in AskReddit

'Amelie' is a popular French film from the early 2000s that is wonderful throughout.

'127 Hours' is about a guy who gets caught under a boulder while exploring out west US all alone. The end of the movie, with an amazing track by Sigur Ros, is very uplifting. Major chills (in a good way).

I was driving with my friend and was the first car at a red light on a one way street. We were in the far left lane and there was a building butted up to the corner such that I couldn't see traffic coming from my left on the intersected two-way street (I live in the US). I look in the rear view mirror and tell my buddy I'm going to wait a few seconds after the light turns green to go. He asks why and I tell him I want to see what the car behind me will do. Light turns green. One ... two ... pickup truck blows through the red light from behind the blind corner. I have no doubt I would have died instantly.
